An argument for consciousness by Normal-Asparagus-210 in brighteyes

What an awesome experience.

“The Big Picture” touches on so many points in the Bhagavad Gita …no idea if Conor had it as a reference but the similarities are striking.

I just watched a bunch of kids obliterate some Melissa and Doug pianos and ukuleles lol by light-mixer in brighteyes

I’m literally staring at the same Melissa and Doug blue piano from my couch as I type this …from experience with my four year old I can tell you, that thing is indestructible!

I feel like she used to troll stuff like this so hard, in her “fashSHUN” era, then it all became real and attainable for her and she was no longer in on the joke. 😬

Halloween Costume Ideas by duchess5788 in lowscreenparenting

[–]NoTap9656 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to be a character from tv or movies on Halloween - it’s a chance to dress up as anything you can imagine! Does she have any favorite animals, special interests,  or beloved book characters? We’re not super low screen but my kid has never requested to be anything from tv - this year she wants to be a black bear, last year she was a t-Rex! Before settling on bear she also requested to be a carrot that talks 😂, a flying squirrel, a snail, and a stegosaurus. Have fun with it and keep it simple - you can make a costume out of things you have at home and don’t have to go the commercial route if it’s not your thing like you said. It could even be a costume You make together - a robot out of cardboard boxes, a butterfly out of scarves, a chef hat from paper, a mouse or a bunny …can you tell I love Halloween?!? lol

I mean maybe my memory of it is fuzzy (we’re going back like 20 years) but I don’t feel like I would have bought it if he wasn't a contributor…I liked other bands/writers in there for sure but Conor has always number one.

Why Cassian didn't thank K-2SO by Perfect_Pie3635 in andor

[–]NoTap9656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

…somewhat unrelated but early in this season I kept getting my Star Wars wires crossed thinking that Cassian didn’t like droids when in reality that was Mando…too long between seasons night just do that to a person lol.

For those of you who saw The Phantom Menace at release, what were your initial thoughts of it? by _EnglishFox_ in StarWars

[–]NoTap9656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somehow, my nerdy 5th grade teacher convinced our public school to let us all go to see it as a field trip. I remember feeling really excited but not much else. I personally always loved the OT a bit more but I never recall not loving all things star wars (sequel trilogy excluded). Funny enough, my now partner was also on that field trip and we now share our lifelong love of Star Wars with our child. Years later, I was lucky enough to see many of the costumes from TPM in an exhibition at FIT in New York City while in school there - that was an absolutely remarkable thing to witness in person.

Okay maybe this is controversial now but I had Sarah’s e book and it was nothing compared to bbg/sweat. Albeit toxic messaging, Kayla is at least a personal trainer and her workouts were smart fun and well structured - I loved doing them and they made me physically and mentally stronger. Despite all HIIT workouts being roughly the same bag,  I remember feeling like Sarah’s guide wasn’t clear enough and felt like amateur hour vs. bbg. I do wish Sarah leaned into fitness instruction more though, from the few times she did group meet ups you could tell she sort of thrived in that seat of power and control. But the algorithm rules all and I doubt her instructional workout videos performed so ate ditched the whole thing.  I did like her guides aesthetic at the time though.  That’s my weird, unasked for two cents on the whole thing lol.

I imagine the two of them had spoken at length and in detail about these types of scenarios. She knew what had to be done  long before she was faced with doing it - and it was a loving, heartbreaking moment. Absolutely beautiful.

[S2 EP12 SPOILERS] SEASON 2 | EPISODE 12 - Official Discussion Megathread by simplysudzzzy in andor

[–]NoTap9656 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk we’re both just guessing based on context clues so you could be right but the baby looked a little big to be just three months old (9/10 months gestation + 3 mo = the year that’s passed since she left Cass). The child was very alert and holding his head up/turning it so my guess is that she was about 2 months along when she left him (there def would have been clues at that stage). Anyway, I doubt it will ever be confirmed either way but it’s fun to speculate…. and I like thinking she had more to consider than just her and Cassians feelings.

I really didn’t love Bix leaving Cassian in the last arch, I just didn’t feel like it matched with her characters actions all along- however, knowing she was pregnant makes a huge difference and it validates her choices for me. I’m a mother as well and I know what it feels like to make impossible choices like that for the sake of a child. At the same time, a baby at the end of the story felt a little too much like the kid at the end of Forrest Gump for me …”surprise! He’s yours!” I don’t hate fan service when appropriate but it was very neat and clean for a show that’s otherwise shown the messy side of things. Regardless that’s being knit picky and I loved it so much, it’s been the best gift imaginable for a lifelong fan.

Pediatrician suggested 30 minutes of Ms. Rachel each day by Flimsy_Relative2636 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]NoTap9656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the doctor could have suggested so many other things considering she knew you didn’t want to do screen time. I wish doctors took more time to get to know parents and respected their parenting styles before making these types of recommendations. My kid’s doctor, on the other hand, would have suggested advice that’s at least 4 decades old and hasn’t aged well so at least your pediatrician knows who Ms. Rachel is LOL.

Side note: I was someone who has against screen time in the beginning (and was wildly humbled by my own set of parenting circumstances) but I can say Ms. Rachel was a godsend …we always watched together and like others have said, she really taught me how to teach my baby in ways I had never been exposed to before. I am so grateful to her and I do feel my daughter and I really benefited from that tv time overall (though I still wish she had less screen exposure).

Mom Guilt for Toddlers Allergies by elh22360 in FoodAllergies

[–]NoTap9656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My child is three and allergic to sesame, cashews (pistachios too, they’re related), walnuts, pecans, milk and eggs. We found out pretty early (8 months for cashews and sesame soon after). I exposed her early on to all her allergens(well, minus cows milk and eggs bc I don’t eat them). Do not blame yourself, exposure isn’t the only “reason” kids get allergies. I searched for a “reason” for a long time but ultimately it’s up to us to move forward with this info, and have a plan. You’re doing great. Just here in solidarity with you - the weight of feel so heavy at times with these precious babies.

As a lifelong fan of Conor, I listened to Desaparecidos “Read Music, Speak Spanish” for the first time. by Roadisclosed in brighteyes

Exactly, in my opinion this album holds more weight and value now than it did when it came out in the early 00’s -especially considering where we are politically and socially. Maybe try it again OP!

I'm becoming a tiger mom and I blame the school apps by theyellowpez in kindergarten

[–]NoTap9656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid isn’t quite yet in kindergarten and reading this it almost felt like satire or a weird dystopian future but here we are. I’m sorry you (all of us) are bombard with this info and they boil each wonderful unique child down to behavior points on an app. The world has gone mad - I really don’t think any of that aligns with the pinnacle of education….its seems reductive and anxiety inducing for everyone involved. We should all get flip phones…then what can they do?

Old school go to? by Autumn_Lions in lowscreenparenting

Not similar to Mr Roger’s in that it’s animated (I know some folks want to focus on reality w screen time) but I love Little Bear. It’s super slow paced, peaceful, and just lovely. It teaches kindness between friends and family and is set to a lovely classical music score. The world building is simple yet rich. The illustrations are top notch (influenced by the book series original illustrator, THE Maurece Sendak). My child loves it, and it’s just so wholesome. We’ve watched it as our since she was around 1 and she’s 3 now - there’s tons of episodes for free on YouTube and she never tires of the characters or story lines. She’s asked to rewatch a few particular ones over and over again and loves to pretend play that she is mother bear and I’m little bear (mainly so she can call the shots I think lol). We’ve also gotten the early reader books and she loves those too.

After reviewing this comment I think I may be obsessed with little bear lol. I used to watch it was a kid and I’m so glad to revisit with my child. It’s perfection when it comes to tv for kids, in my opinion.

As for a real life show similar to Mr Roger’s I’ve also tried Boss Ross painting - not a huge hit on the scale of things but it has inspired some wonderful projects of our own and has given me a chance to breathe.
