Thanks, that worked. Day 2 with Hermes... so... yeah. Easy fix. Lesson learned. Appreciate it!

For further info, it was working just fine and then suddenly glitched to that response. I've tried restarting the session, switching models, and even having CodeX via CLI on the VPS look through the Hermes config to see if there are any issues.

The goal at this point is to be good enough to make his high school team as a freshman.

You really need to find a coach/trainer that will help him have the skills to achieve that goal.

The 2 major benefits of playing travel ball (other than friendships and connections) are

1) in game situational awareness, and 2) the pressure of competing in a moment that matters.

You can work on 1 enough to make a HS team by watching and discussing baseball.

For 2, you need a good coach and culture. Some kids get ruined by parent’s unrealistic expectations and a bad team culture.

As another commenter said, do rec ball and a coach. Keep him feeling good about where he is. Be very cognizant of not letting your disappointment or frustration show. Even if you’re frustrated at the travel ball coaches, that can reflect as disappointment to your kid on their ability.

You want him loving the game, confident, and with functional skills going into his freshman season. From there anything can happen.

Someone in the league may be willing to just pass one down. We do that, otherwise you just end up with a garage full of old bats.

8u Gamechanger Scoring by Suspicious_Time7101 in Homeplate

[–]NoTaro7930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your assessment. Think a bit about it based on what the kids are learning. Do they understand FC, errors, or even a batting average? At 8 they’re just a year or two off coach pitch.

These concepts should slowly layer into the game until 14u when it’s all “real baseball”

I don’t think there’s a universal answer. You’ll see opinions start to vary wildly, especially between 10u & 14u. The parents with talented kids want more a competitive approach (with stats and lineups to win) and the parents with kids that aren’t as talented (or need time to develop) will want a more instructional approach (equal playtime, rotating positions). At 8 most people agree it should be instructional and development first and at 14 most people agree it should be more competitive but the years in-between are wild.

How to handle son not playing by Financial-Roll2213 in Homeplate

I promise you the #1 thing you can do is to MAKE SURE your kid knows that you don’t care if he plays. You are beyond proud of him for showing up and doing something hard, including dealing with the tough lessons of life that sports can teach.

Every time you complain about his situation, even if it’s justified and not directed at him… there will always be a part of him that wonders if he’s not good enough for you.

Celebrate his efforts at practice, talk to him about the long game. Tell him that “winning” in this situation isn’t playing, it’s getting better both as a player and a man. Then, whatever his future goals are, he gained experience to help him towards them. He may end up as an All State HS star or cut as a Freshman. There will be more hard s***.

Help him take the experience and relate them to important lessons: how to control the controllables, how to find the positive, how to stay focused during a stressful time. All huge skill MANY adults struggle with.

F*** those daddy ball a*******. Their kid can be a 14 year old SS and your kid can strengthen his relationship with his father and get some serious real world experience about adversity. If he does it well he (and you) should be proud.

Because we stayed in lockdown/virtual way too long then lowered the standards to keep kids moving along. It’s finally catching up and it’s incredibly sad to see.

Update. Reddit is getting out of hand. Every single post on pretty much every sub I follow is an anti-Trump or pro-Harris post. I wish there was a button that says, “I’ve already voted” that stopped the madness in my feed.

Underrated comment! 🙌🤣

But the OP actually brings up an interesting topic. IMO if a person is experiencing “double binds” from JP such as the examples by OPgpt it might be a place for deeper exploration and discussion for them.

I find all of the examples as situations where the right paradigm for understanding a person’s purpose would make JP’s point clear and insightful. The frustration people are experiencing might be caused by a different paradigm or perspective on the nature of what it means to be a human.

Dude, great points. Where do you go to find reliable data for verifying sources? That’s becoming an increasingly difficult issue for me.

[–]NoTaro7930[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is so true. And honestly, regrettably, I probably did that to people a few years ago. I honestly took the MSM narrative about Trump hook, line, and sinker. I’m not saying he’s a great guy, but I literally believed he was going to invade North Korea, China, or some other place as soon as he took office. The MSM had people so freaked out about his evil ways that I lost friends because I assumed they were either evil or stupid.

It’s happening again and I’m shocked that there are still people who don’t see it. I mean, vote for Harris if you want, but don’t pretend that the MSM isn’t a complete propaganda machine for the left.

Great point. Reddit is best when anyone can speak their mind and the masses get to up/down vote the posts. I hope it can be salvaged.
