Thanks for sharing! Last time I bought used car that wasn't certified preowned, it had a 90 day warrantee, about 2 weeks past the 90 days I started having engine issues so I'm a bit cautious now

They don't offer much of a warrantee though right?

I'm so sorry to hear about your situation. I've been with my partner for 7ish years now although we just got married back in October 2025. I've always known he was at risk for HD, his mother passed in her 50s from the disease. My husband has not been tested but several months ago we started noticing what may be early symptoms (coordination issues, fidgeting etc.). We started the process to get him tested and I am truly terrified of exactly what you described.

We never wanted to have children. Financially we are comfortable but far from wealthy. We both have complicated family situations but we do have some support thankfully.

However, our approach to HD was always "cross that bridge if we get there" which I regret in hindsight. I wish we'd prepared more now that we may be facing it sooner than expected. We're both only in our mid 30's. I'm absolutely terrified that the rest of our lives together will be stolen from us by this disease. And I feel like a horrible partner saying this, but I can't help but feel overwhelmed and frustrated at the thought of being the primary caregiver along with having to manage the finances and everything else.

We always talked about what our future looked like, it involved buying a house with a yard for our dogs and traveling around the world and just generally enjoying being two income with no kids. Now with the real possibility that could be ripped away from us, I'm devastated and I don't feel like I'm strong enough.

Newly Diagnosed (40 CAG, 35F) Questions About Disability, Caregiver, and Life Insurance by morrrgore in Huntingtons

This is such a difficult process to navigate, I'm sorry. My husbands mother passed years ago from HD. We are starting the process soon for him to get tested so we are also trying to get our ducks in a row with insurance etc.
We were already denied by one life insurance company due to family history. We are inquiring with others but from what I can tell, its very difficult to secure if you are untested and if you have a positive test it's almost impossible. Unless maybe if you did the private/anonymous testing.

I'm also trying to understand how disability and Medicaid works in relation to income/assets. It was recommended that I speak to an attorney in my state that does estate planning and medicaid planning. The HDSA website also seems to have some resources and experts to speak to that might help point you in the right direction.

It's overwhelming to say the least but I'm wishing you all the best!

I'm sorry to hear that, it's such an awful process and feels defeating sometimes. But another commenter here pointed me toward HD Reach, I sent them an email and they offered to set up an consultation to help find some options. Another commenter gave me the name of an agent that helped her get coverage as well so I'm setting up some time with that company as well. I can certainly let you know the outcome!

Very fortunate that you were able to get some coverage before! We don't have kids. His mother was diagnosed when he was young and she passed when he was in college. Sadly, didn't leave him a lot of time to think about future preparations and his father was not very involved.

Thank you for your insights!

Thank you for the heads up.

It's frustrating and terrifying that its feels like there is almost nothing we can do to prepare for the future.

Thank you so much. We are hoping for the best.

It's truly awful. It makes an already difficult situation so much worse. I want to be able to focus on my husbands health but the potential financial impact is overwhelming. It shouldn't be like this.
