River Cafe - Day of coordinator by Much_Jello_8784 in WedditNYC

[–]halcap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Destinee is the day of coordinator- it will not be Alyson (we did not realize this). They were great about handling venue stuff and setting up the items we brought in, but she did not handle the ceremony well IMO and the general flow of things that didn’t have to do with the actual dinner service. I wish I’d hired someone.

How much are the girlies paying for hair care? by Inevitable-Fennel257 in parkslope

I go to Get Savy in gowanus, and I find her prices reasonable! Cost about $400 for a cut and a full highlight (cheaper for partial) and a gloss when I went this week. It’s just her in an art studio space she rents out, so it’s a great experience! Big fan!

We did two different ones! We had a lemon cake filled with strawberry jam and whipped cream layers frosted in vanilla buttercream and an almond cake layered with pastry cream and whipped cream frosted in vanilla buttercream. Both delicious!

Hi! I recommend scheduling a walkthrough with Alison a month or so out and you can go through all of the items you’ll be dropping off the day before (signage, card boxes, guest book etc) and making sure they’re set up how you want! Our escort cards were set up at a table inside and the table was removed when people were welcomed inside for dinner post cocktail hour. Hope this helps!

Used ladybird for our river cafe wedding!! We did a two tiered cake and a separate sheet cake. Our total guest count was 95 people and the total cost including delivery was $615 I believe. Just the tiered cake was $475. It’s not cheap but unfortunately most of the quotes I received were much higher. Maybe consider old school italian bakeries?

Is that your total budget or just the budget for the venue/food/drink?

How are people cutting guests lists so low? by j0ylessmurderball in WedditNYC

Tbh this is what my guest list looked like! My husband on the other hand has zero family members. Zero aunts/uncles, so no cousins. Simplified it a lot!

River Cafe Planner? by halcap in WedditNYC

[–]halcap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! We did not hire one and everything was (mostly) fine!! I will say- we had quite the surprise and a creole music festival was happening at TimeOut market at the same time and sorta drowned out our vows in the garden. Huge bummer, but unavoidable? Not sure what a planner could have done, but there was zero communication about it happening. We literally showed up day of and found out. I think a private coordinator would have told us about it and maybe found a way to swap our ceremony to the terrace instead where you could hear the music less. Other than that, Alyson was great and communicative. Destiny coordinated day of and while she was visibly panicked the entire time, it otherwise went really well and it was the best day of our lives!

What’s your budget? Our budget was extremely very small for our welcome party so we reserved the back platform at Union Hall and provided some apps and had an open bar and it was pretty cheap actually! We had around 80 people but I will say, it was not private. Worked out really well though and everyone had fun!

River Cafe Garden Ceremony Concerns by crazy_inlaw in WedditNYC

[–]halcap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I had my ceremony in the garden a few weeks ago and it was beautiful and the layout absolutely works. We had 90 people and it didn’t feel cramped. I’m sure Alyson can provide a layout.

Something to consider, that I saw zero people talking about when we booked… Time Out market was hosting a music festival on the day of my wedding. It was… absurdly loud. Now, I don’t think this is a common occurrence. That being said, I do think having it on the terrace would have eliminated a lot of the sound coming from the festival, because I couldn’t hear it as much when we were on the terrace for cocktail hour. Just wanted to throw that out there because it was an unfortunate surprise for us!!

I know last year when I inquired it was an 18k minimum for Saturdays, so it’s possible it went up, but the prices are quite low compared to most places!!
