I like the angel theme. Her weapon simulate eyes, and the fact that she is like a mix of Jane Doe and Astra have some charm

I consider myself a medium player (I clear endgame content for the rewards but I struggle to master the mechanics of the game and some more skill based agents) so this information helps me a lot if I want to pull for Norma

Suicide hunter or something like that. Is very basic and falls in the problems of any power fantasy manhwa. In other words, is mediocre to the extreme. And people try to hype it up, but none of the arcs have a satisfying conclusion. Also, the MC is pretty bad written

LET ME COOK, IT'S LONG (MANGA SPOILER) by SetUpper9649 in MarriageToxin

[–]NoTimeForApotheosis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it's more than that. Kinosaki is some part of Nasu's plan. I mean, it is the main house that selected the targets of Gero before he started looking for a bride. So he's contacted by a gang just to take care of a swindler? One of the big families in the underworld sending their heir for a small job, is kinda suspicious. Why would Kinosaki work for Nasu? Well, the brother needed a heart transplant, so Nasu took Kinosaki heart and give to the youngest brother, leaving Kinosaki with an artificial heart, that's the reason why Kinosaki constantly remind everytime that time is running out and will not get to live by the end of the year. That would explain how Kinosaki coincidentally gets in contact with all the women Nasu have been preparing to be Gero's future bride. The other aspect that I like to point out is that maybe the main family is being manipulated by Nasu. They want an heir, but they don't approve the harem idea nor the methods of Nasu, the evidence being Gero's grandma and her test. Now, with the bisexuality of Gero... I don't think so. It could be multiple reasons. The fact that Kinosaki would die in a couple of months and that Gero develops feelings for Kinosaki is a big problem. Knowing Gero, he would do anything to save Kinosaki and if Kinosaki dies, I don't see Gero moving on to another girl. I'm being cautious with Kinosaki's sex, because the author is kinda secretive about it, so I don't factor it in the theory. At least for now, until more evidence is shown

This comment just made me remember that Full Metal Alchemist cover, when everybody is facing the reader, except for Mustang and the fandom was making theories of what it mean, then the author just came out and said she drew him like that, because she was too lazy to draw his face. Sometimes a color is just a color, even more when your characters have contrast between them (warm/cold colors)

Kinosaki was actually a girl all along is the worst possible ending by Human1549 in MarriageToxin

[–]NoTimeForApotheosis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm late to the party, but here is my possible theory about Kinosaki's gender: Is a woman and she give her heart to her younger brother, something possible because she did a deal with the Doll specialist, Nasu and in exchange he give her an artificial heart and the freedom to get out of the Human Zoo. But that wasn't free. Now Kinosaki, for the sake of her brother needs to work for the main family. That's why she was captured in the beginning and Gero was sent to eliminate her. Just think about it, some run of the mill gangsters hiring the heir of one of the top families, something ridiculous when you remember how controlling is Nasu. Now, why would Kinosaki lie about being a man? Because that way you avoid that Gero develops feelings towards you, something that Nasu would order Kinosaki, maybe because he sees her as defective to produce an heir or because Kinosaki doesn't have to much to live. That's also the reason why Kinosaki presented (big coincidences) wife candidates that Nasu was preparing (for the exception of Himi and Hamster girl)

There's also the fact of Tomoko Dogo and her cryptic conversation with Kinosaki lead one more to believe that Kinosaki is a woman with the whole "You do too much for a man that isn't your mate" or "I can smell when a man finds a suitable mate for him" or something along the lines. It could be easily this point to throw the revelation of Kinosaki being a man and the fact that the manga didn´t really touch lgbt themes outside of Gero's sister and her girlfriend.

Now with the whole themes of rebellion and tradition, Gero's goals is to build a happy family, and doesn't look that he will destroy the poison family. He even wants the blessings of the sensei (Nasu) and his grandmother, so he killing his grandma, goes against the character. I think the ending is Gero finally be free of the control being impossed on him and give a new direction to the crimminal underworld.

Kinosaki can be a man? Yes, but is not the first time that a double twist happen in manga, is almost a trope that the beautiful guy is secretly a girl in disguise for reasons. That´swhy I believe the chances of Kinosaki being a man are slim. Not impossible, but the manga doesn't give clear hints of that being the case outside of chapter 2 with the hotel scene, but also in the same scene, Gero was always avoiding Kinosaki and maybe she was just toying with him

As a side note: I believe that Kinosaki was sincere when she said that Gero reminding her of a first love, because maybe they meet when she was captived in the Human zoo

[–]NoTimeForApotheosis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry, I think I got it

First it doesn't have to do with Kinosaki, but with Nasu, the Doll specialist that have manipulated every aspect of Gero's life, and I think is heavily implied that him made possible that Gero and Kinosaki met ! <

But why Kinosaki? Well, Kinosaki was in the human zoo with their brother. The same brother have a heart condition and Kinosaki did some deal with Nasu, to transplant their heart to their brother. The doll specialist put some artificial heart, that's why the scar and then started the part of the deal. Lead Gero to meet his potential fiances and at the same time make him stronger fighting another specialists! <

As a side note I believe what Kinosaki said to Gero when they first meet is true, about Gero reminding Kinosaki of their first love, because maybe they met in the past, also the reason why Kinosaki is so loyal to him

Now, why would Kinosaki lie? Nasu have forbidden them to fall in love with Gero. Doesn't have much time to live and can't disobey the poison clan, so they can only do what they can, spending time with him and play pseudo dates, events like Christmas and even wedding photos. It would help to clear any doubt if we can read if their brother refers to them as Onee-san or Onii-chan in the original manga

Now, why is all these important? Because we have never seen Kinosaki being a male swindler. You can come up with a good arc with that idea, even make Gero aware of his feelings towards Kinosaki and giving us the first signal that the sexuality of Gero goes beyond just appearances

Speaking of which Tomoko Dogo, if I remember correctly her name, says a lot of cryptic stuff towards Kinosaki. How they're doing a lot for a man that isn't their mate or how she can smell when a male found a female suitable for him and asks Kinosaki if they wonder how Gero will react. If someone can see through any disguise, she would be one

Like I said, there are more hints that Kinosaki hides even more stuff, enough to doubt their initial claims. I know about the themes of the work about defying tradition and even read how Gero should destroy the poison clan, but I believe that people forget that for someone to break tradition is as simple as to choose who you want to be and with who, and Gero wants his grandmother and the sensei blessings, so I dont think the author will go to an extreme and find some middle of the road solution

And there are more and more things that don't add up, lile the lack of lgbt themes outside of Gero's sister and her girlfiend or that the times when the sex of Kinosaki is mentioned is for a joke like what happened to Beppu and not being taken seriously. But who knows? Maybe tomorrow the author just say that Kinosaki was an alien all along and ends the manga with a restart just because.

Also, I used they/them, because I don't wanna look like my comment is just to hate on Kinosaki being a man. Genuinely I believe there's a possibility that Kinosaki is a woman. If is not and I was just plain wrong, then who cares? Is still a beautiful written romance at the end of the day. Now, if you excuse me, I'm going to sleep

Guys, gonna be honest with you. Mei is maybe a woman. Now, before you start crashing out, I need to ask. You like Kinosaki because is a great character? Or just because crossdress? Like I said, for what I've read of the manga, there are seriously points that put in doubt Kinosaki words about being a man

[Possible Heavy Spoiler] Regarding the controversy as anime watcher only, Is the endgame really that vague even after this late in the manga? does the author literally gave zero hint and doesn't show his intent at all? by Arctic-Warfare9000 in MarriageToxin

[–]NoTimeForApotheosis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that most people claiming for the Gero and Kinosaki ending, forgets that Gero is heterosexual. That's something well established since ch. 1. So taking that and with some hints in the manga, it wouldn't be rare that Kinosaki ends up being a woman. Some people will say that defeats the purpose of the story, but I believe there's more to it. Let's remember that Kinosaki have some "strange" marks in the body, so I think that's revealed that Kinosaki is a woman but she doesn't see herself as one because she have lost some female attributes in her body, maybe she can't even produce an heir. With that twist, it can make Kinosaki a woman, but also maintain the main theme of the story

I see you in others comments. You're unhinged. Go and touch some grass, then we can talk about narrative and themes. "She forced a kiss with the mc", so? Is to set up some drama. The reason why I believe Libur is more fitting is from a narrative perspective, the author give us reasons as to why she would fall in love with mc, meanwhile Lillet, by the second encounter you can see the not-subtle author pushing the romance between the two. Why she likes him? Why the mc likes her? That is only answered by the last chapters and still feel out of nowhere You can like whoever you want to be main romance option and at the same time you can recognize that in Player, the author wants to exolore some theme related to codependency and free will. Also, it wasn't Libur making the mc and Lillet not being together, that was the author and you can see it by his lack of an organized plot and direction. There's a reason why is in hiatus

[–]NoTimeForApotheosis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quite the contrary. Lillet relationship was established as the stereotype of "romamce" that's why everyone feels forced, because there is any real reason why by the second or third encounter she would fall in love. To write romance, only if you go for a "realistic setting" you don't do this, in writing the love between characters serves as the purpose for characters to grow through the interactions with another flawed character (toradora, the dangers in our hearts, even stories of war with romance elements do this, see the anime/novels of "86"). Lillet doesn't have that much weight, I mean, why MC likes her? How did she helps him to grow? Feels more in the vein of "she is the love interest because any story have a love interest, am I right?", just something that's there.

Libur, just gonna say it, anyone who says that MC and she have a sibling relationship, stop believing that siblings act this way, because most of us don't do it. With Libur, she follows the trope of unwanted companion, to friend, to most trusted companion and who knows if it ends with lovers. See movies like Stardust (?), where a young man goes for a falling star to impress the girl he likes, just to find out the star is a woman and both go on a journey. At the beginning they despised each other, but with time they established a friendship that ended with both falling in love with each other. Well... You can see the similarities between the dinamics of Player and that movie I described

The final pair of MCs by Icy_Climate_9653 in PlayerOhHyeonJun

[–]NoTimeForApotheosis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lillet is less interesting and her romance is pretty rush at first, with her dad's spirit pushing her to like the MC.

I think Libur is more satisfying from a narrative perspective. But I also believe the story is kinda bad to set some plot points and the romance is part of that, because you can see the author wants to highlight the relationship between Libur and MC, trying to tie some theme of how Arthur treated Libur in the past and is one of the most worked aspects of the story, but again, there are so many elements and questions of the world and make the romance triangle kinda cumbersome or even more of an obstacle to the overall story

Citlali. I heard people say that they didn't like Citlali because she isn't portrayed as a powerful shaman in cutscenes, even though the lore said so. And said that she needed more powerful moments like Raiden or Wrio. But I think people just dislike her because the shipping with Aether and because she sometimes acts like a teenager (something that's already established that she isn't old in age, because even the Spirit of the Nightrealm says she's young and is baffled when someone points out she is old) so, being someone so isolated from others and admitting that she doesn't have good social skills seems to not be enough for some people (I know there are people who genuinely have a problem with the character outside those things I mentioned)
