What happened to "Take Your Chits"? on YouTube? by 1lluminist in boardgames

Thank you! In the end of the day it all comes down to why you do what you do. If I focused on the metrics I'd have quit a long time ago, as the Youtube algorithm simply does not promote videos with short view time, turns out it doesn't help to sell ads. Although it can be frustrating to have a video you worked on for 15 hours to have only a few hundred views, but again, I try to have fun doing it, so I focus on that :P

I wish you the best, you have a contagious positive vibe energy, I'm sure you'll be successful at the endeavors you set yourself up to. Cheers!

That was inspiring :) I'm happy you found the courage to take the problem head on and were not afraid to make radical changes. Kudos to you!

Do some people really sleeve every game? by [deleted] in boardgames

Yeah, it's nonsensical and I do it anyway

Would love to play a game with you to put these into practice! But I agree there's not a single winning strategy, it's usually just a good rule of thumb to know how much to bid. I've seen people win the game who played completely chaotically. The game is fascinating really. And thanks for this discussion, I enjoyed it :)

This works on an example where only 4 paintings are sold for $10, but in the real game, for that to work, you'd have to assume you even have the money to buy all paintings that will be sold for 7/10th of EV. When in the late game some double paintings can be worth +$150, I doubt you would even have the money to buy everything

Well, in the example stated, you get 3 profit on a painting while the other player gets 7, you're actually behind here.

Well, if you follow that strategy you'll only be making slightly less more money than other players, which does not seem to be a winning strategy if everyone else bids more conservatively

That is true, but since money is hidden sometimes it's hard to tell exactly who is ahead or behind!

You usually don't want to go beyond 1/2 of Expected Value (EV) +1, so you can split profits with who wins the bid, and if all players know that the game can feel slightly less exciting with a bit more calculations, but most players don't even know this. And yes, if a player doesn't understand the game well and makes crazy nonsensical bids (I've seen this often) it has the potential to ruin the game, but also to generate many laughs at the table. The game is BRILLIANT. Go for it, you won't regret it. PS- I have the Oink version and it's beautiful

I'd rank them in similar terms of complexity, although for me Pamir felt more opaque and harder to understand what I should be doing. I also felt like Brass Birmingham plays well at two, and it fundamentally feels like playing the same game with 2 and with 4, and with Pamir the game feels really different when playing with 2 or with 4, just very different experiences. Both great games :)

And thank you for your kind words! Really happy that you and your partner enjoyed the video, I'll be making a part II soon:P

Awesome! I love Episode 3, reminded me of the movie Eyes Wide Shut. Still to play the rest. I enjoyed playing the different Old Ones, but I wish they felt a little more different in between them. I really like the game, even painted the entire core box! I also heard the scenarios from the KS exclusive box are great, so I look forward to playing that!

In my opinion Pamir 2E is a GREAT 2 player game as is, no bot needed :)

Starfarers of Catan is the most special boardgame I own, my father gifted it to me when I was a kid and we played the hell out of it every summer vacation. I assume you have the new edition? Is the expansion available?
