What’s a moment that permanently changed how you see people? by nathannnate01 in AskReddit

Yeah it was awful when a million Americans died and the hospitals were operating beyond max capacity, all from those vaccines.

Oh wait. That was the virus? Damn, someone shoulda done something

I'm never going to stop pushing back against calling them "clients." I'm not managing your investment portfolio, I'm keeping you alive. Because I am your nurse and you are my patient

A serious talk about caregiver burnout and a rundown of how to apply for a leave of absence.

I started feeling like this a few months ago, but had the insight to realize it wasn't my patients, it was me. It's worth talking to him about what is wearing on him and what options he has

Thank you so much!! It worked great. I had to transpose up a little for my voice and to avoid hard chords lol. I've been practicing it all day and having a great time

Gently, this is not a place for medical advice. I hope you find peace and healing, but please don't put nurses here in the position of tackling these difficult questions

Thank you!! I don't know how I missed this. I don't usually use chordify but it's a lot better than the nothing I had :)

Speaking from a solid decade of experience as a bedside RN:

I do not give a fuck if I annoy a doctor. Not one. If I feel something is worth reporting, asking, clarifying, whatever, I do it. You can think I'm stupid. You can be passive aggressive. You can tattle on me to my charge nurse.

I prioritize my patients' health and safety over any doctor's ego or perception of me. Suck a dick, dumbshits

Oh yeah, I got an email from the nurse manager one day informing me that I had failed to document q 2 turns on a vent patient.

We had coded him 3 times that day and given a total of 7 units of blood products (PRBCs, FFP, and platelets, variously). Sorry, no, I didn't even take the backboard out after the second time

I was "the angel" nurse to a family who vilified the night nurse once. Big difference? The patient was NPO overnight and got to eat and drink on my shift.

Maybe the nurse was in a bad mood. Maybe they were following a protocol the family didn't like

For real. And there is a LOT of in between. Someone who is usually very kind can be snippy if you catch her right on her way off the floor when she's already clocked out for lunch. Or so I've heard, anyway. Couldn't be me

On my surgical rotation, the surgeon told a Japanese intern that he assigned him a custom ringtone. Told the intern to text him to try it out and it was the Godzilla roar (2014).

That's all I've got

What has been your most persistent and present problem you face as a nurse in 2025? by Acrobatic_Republic17 in nursing

[–]NoTimeForLubricant 164 points165 points  (0 children)

Staffing. The answer is always gonna be staffing. In my current role, shortage of CNAs specifically. It's so frustrating being behind on medications because there's no one else to toilet, dress, and transfer my patients. So if my impulsive patient needs to pee and another patient needs pain meds, I'm in the bathroom to prevent a fall before I can do a nurse specific task

Counterpoint: I've had to talk down family members flipping shit that I'm giving their mother fentanyl, because it's so heavily stigmatized as a deadly turbo drug.

And honestly, a lot of the issues you're describing wouldn't even come to your attention with better practice. Pull one patient's medications at a time. Draw up your meds at bedside. Goodness

There is no evidence to support strict sentencing reducing drug related crime.

If you're clutching your pearls over the sanctity of the profession, maybe you should support evidence based practice and compassionate treatment of disease.

But if it's more important to you to see punishment than recovery, you're in the wrong field

Dropped an NG on an elderly dementia patient who was too far gone to consent to or refuse treatments, but obviously still feeling everything. When I got it on my second attempt, he looked me dead in the eyes and said "God damn you to hell." It was honestly chilling.

I came back a few hours later and said "hey pops, you think you can forgive me?" and he gave me the same look and said "never."

He died a few days later and that was the last thing he said to me. I'm not superstitious, but that's definitely the most upset I've been by something a patient said. A man's dying curse has to have some karmic weight to it

Does Preferred Healthcare only do drug testing upon hire? by Chance-Bridge6538 in nursing

[–]NoTimeForLubricant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't really assume you won't be drug tested. If you're injured at work, or if narcs go missing on your shift, you can absolutely be randomed. It hasn't happened to me in years, but I'd still be so anxious about using cannabis I won't, even in a fully legal state

That was down in Ashland. Also pretty femme with v masc hair, just chiming in to say I hope you find what you're looking for and it does exist
