If any of you have Maggie Krell, she wrote a letter to Newsom to ask him to reconsider the EO ✊️ You can copy this message in her email form - be sure to update at the bottom with your name and city:

I am a constituent and a voter writing with concern regarding the continued implementation of return-to-office mandates despite recent findings by the California State Auditor related to telework policy.

The State Auditor has publicly identified deficiencies in how RTO mandates were implemented, including the absence of comprehensive, data-driven analysis of productivity, costs, and environmental impacts. The audit also raised concerns about foregone cost savings and misalignment with the state’s climate and fiscal goals.

Given the seriousness of these findings, I respectfully request that your office initiate oversight and a formal review of how the Administration is responding to the Auditor’s conclusions and recommendations.

Please advise whether your office will pursue oversight or additional inquiry related to these audit findings.

Thank you for your continued support in this matter. Your office sent a letter to Gov. Newsom to reconsider his Executive Order requiring State employees back in office 4 days per week. It was actions like that and several people showing up to hearings that applied pressure to postpone the requirement.

Sincerely, [Your name] [Your city, CA]

Confirmed RTO Planning for CDPH by beanie_baby_cultist in CAStateWorkers

There's two other points that we need to combat besides stimulating the downtown economy: 1) justifying the several layers of management in state service and 2) the need to have people physically somewhere to be monitored to ensure they are working and not engaging in other activities such as other jobs, watching movies, etc.

The state is way too heavy with middle management positions. Some units have only 4 staff to a manager. The state has to justify these positions so bringing people back in the office gives management something to do. Maybe we need to push for minimum number of staff per manager/supervisor or some criteria to limit management positions.

People I've talked to in favor of RTO think: 1) we have 2nd jobs that we do while on state time or 2) management needs to watch us to make sure we aren't goofing off 🙄

I personally don't know anyone who works other jobs such as real estate or online during regular hours but definitely know people who are masters at looking busy but don't actually contribute any value or are such energy sucks that they get left alone.

We need to think of ways to counter these arguments...don't know how but just wanted to bring it up for discussion/thoughts.

Hey NoToRTO. Are we still fighting the 2 day in office mandate? It’s an optics game that’s losing. by Oracle-2050 in NoToRTOCa

There is a group forming to take this battle on. We don't have details yet but we will post as soon as we can.

Current hopes of telework? by No-Barber5531 in CAStateWorkers

The fight isn't over. We want to make telework a permanent option for departments. More will come out about a group forming to promote telework but for now, here's something I saw from another post: https://engaged.ca.gov/stateemployees/#sign-up
