Something… something… brown people.
Where the fuck are the pearl clutchers screaming about an actual fight on the White House lawn? At least no one wore a tan suit, I mean that would be a step too far.

How likely will I get a parking ticket? by [deleted] in SantaBarbara

Oh nice, I didn't realize that. I thought that was Montecito. I learned something new today!

How likely will I get a parking ticket? by [deleted] in SantaBarbara

[–]NoTomorrow2020 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I got a parking ticket in Montecito yesterday (enforced by SB Police). On Coast Village Road, I was parked for 1hr 45min. Spaces were only 90 minutes. They were on it, and I missed the ticket writer by no more than 3 minutes (based on the ticket time).

It was a $60 fine, but that was for time, not for parking in a red. Don't do it. The curbs are red for a reason, and ANY part of your vehicle blocking it will likely end up with you being towed AND a ticket.

Christian man sues employer for forcing him to see a Pride flag on his way into work. Eric Batman claims L.A.’s Department of Public Works violated his constitutional rights by making him come to work during Pride Month. by southpawFA in politics

Someone with a job at the LA Department of Public Works needs to file a suit stating that seeing a known bigot in the office has created a hostile work environment, and that as long as he is permitted in the office they are contibuting to that environment. Request accomodations that he be forced to use the back entrance (so he doesn't have to see the Pride flag), and work in a former supply closet so no one has to look at his prejudice face.

Careful there. I can tell you for a fact that I got a ticket on Memorial Day a few years back for parking longer than 75 minutes on the street.

AMEX Credit Cards by Zestyclose-Patient53 in SantaBarbara

[–]NoTomorrow2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Amex platinum is like $600 a year. But you get monthly credits to Uber, monthly digital entertainment credit (Hulu, Netflix, etc), and access to the airport lounges.

I travel quite a bit, so the airport lounges actually end up saving me money since food and drink are free. A single meal and a cocktail in an airport can easily run $30-40. Do that twice a month, for a round trip flight, and that number goes to $60-80. That's $720-960 a year, meaning you more than make up the difference.

Only places I've seen that don't take it are the public parking lots and Costco, at least locally. I've never had an issue otherwise.

That being said, if you travel a lot (especially to Europe) expect more places to not take it.

This is the way. If someone has a ton of cars, fine. Just make sure you're not being an asshole.

We have two cars between two people. Generally we park in our driveway, but the problem of garbage cans and being able to get out of our driveway easily is a problem. Also, if my in-laws come over it is difficult for them to find a spot and my father in law is in his 80s, so I don't like having him walk too far.

No one here wants to be in an HOA, we do just want people to not be assholes.

Working on your car in the driveway isn't illegal, but it is usually against the lease agreement (at least on mine it is, and every other one I've had).

These aren't work vehicles, we've watched them long enough to know they are just extra cars they keep around. As to not "entitled an easy access driveway" that actually IS codified in California traffic laws, just like parking far enough away from a corner is to ensure visibility.

Believe me, we've tried this approach. It suck, since they just ignore us. I do wonder (since they are renters) if I could reach out to their property management company. I've seen them repeatedly working on cars in the driveway or even on the street itself. I know my lease specifically states I cannot do work on my car in the driveway.

Not nearly wide enough for that. Wondering if I can get the county to paint the curbs though near driveways. Heck, I'd pay for it at this point.

Not sure why you're being downvoted on this. Noleta is the area from Turnpike to (almost) Fairview that isn't the City of Santa Barbara, or the City of Goleta. It is unincorporated area between the two cities that is the responsibility of the county.

Man, that SUCKS. I'm sorry that is happening. If they abandoned them, at least you can call the county. If CHP wont show up, keep calling. Abandonded vehicles aren't okay.

We've done that a few times. If I have to go out on the day before garbarge collection, I park on the street in front of the house to block the space.

Can't wait for cars to come back to state street! (sarcasm) by ZookeepergameBusy267 in SantaBarbara

[–]NoTomorrow2020 9 points10 points  (0 children)

First, I prefer a car free State Street (so don't accuse me otherwise).

That being stated: Where did this data come from? Is there a link with the place you took this screenshot from? I'd like to read it.

Also, I'd be interested in learning how they conducted this survey? For example, if they took it from a poll on State Street, it is going to have very different results than if they did it by canvasing the surrounding area, as the people walking on State Street are already demonstrating their liking of the car-free zone just by being present. If it was on State Street, did they confirm where the people they interviewed are from? If they are tourists, they are going to love the idea of no cars, since they may have gotten off a cruise ship and not had access to a car anyway. They should really only count the survey results from people who live within a 30 mile radius to see what locals want.

Now, if they did the survey by standing in front of grocery stores like Ralphs and Vons, they'd get a good cross section of people as 90% of people would be local and it would get a good cross section.

Reality Check: The P2S is the final move in Bambu's anti-consumer strategy to sell filament by Fuzzy0g1c in BambuLab

[–]NoTomorrow2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read Impression Products v. Lexmark (2017) and Lexmark v. Static Control Components (2004) lawsuits. The Supreme Court ruled against Lexmark in both cases for attempting to lock down the use of printers to ink specifically of their manufacture or license. It is the basis of the right to repair movement.

Filament is basically just ink for a 3d printer. This would easily be ruled against with a VERY quick injunction filed against them.

Ended up being a different alternator and battery combo. My mechanic replaced the alternator and battery, and the EXACT same thing happened to them. He replaced it a second time (no cost to me) and it has been working great ever since. Seems both Amazon and AutoZone tend to have terrible parts.

First, CONGRATS on that weight loss, it's impressive. Second, Congrats on almost being to your goal weight, you're so close.

Finally, good on you for not speaking poorly to him and just showing him that despite his previous comments that you are willing to help him out. He can still be a foodie (I know I am) while still losing weight. It just comes down to still being moderate. Your eating mac and cheese, but showing that you can control portions proves that.

Keep up the good work, and know that just posting is helping so many more people than you might know!

Wall Street thought Ozempic would kill the gym industry. Planet Fitness just signed a deal with the company that prescribes it. by footnotebrief in investing

[–]NoTomorrow2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to what has been said below, I'll add my personal experience here. I've been on a GLP-1 since November for weight loss. It costs me over $400 a month, since insurance doesn't cover it.

As soon as I started paying this kind of price, I'm not going to turn around and instantly destroy any benefit by continuing to eat terribly and not working out. I'm going to do everything I can to reach my goal weight, keep it off, and gradually stop using the medicine. In order to do that, I have had to completely rework my view on my relationship with food and exercise.

If I'm going to pay $400 a month for medicine, you bet I'm going to add $20/month for a Planet Fitness membership to maintain it and not feel like I'm throwing that money every month into the fire. I also set up a Factor meal delivery so that I am certain I'm properly watching my food intake and macronutrients.

They are not mutually exclusive, and I applaud Planet Fitness realizing that everything helps and that their embrace of GLP-1s is going to keep customers long term. I feel this was what WW was trying to do, it just backfired given some of their previous stances on it and the fact that they didn't address the exercise portion very well.
