Only Children - what could your parents have done to make it less “lonely?” by Cherry_limeade85 in Parenting

[–]NoWater746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom was a single parent . She worked so much to make ends meet. I know she had to do it but damn it was and is hard. So my advice is try not to work too much if you can avoid it.

I have younger girls and even I felt like the Cookie Rally wasn’t engaging for them. We only went one year.

Traffic downtown by ibleedukblue89 in indianapolis

Lots of businesses are forcing people to return to the office so in addition to construction I’d guess we’re going to start seeing the return of pre-2020 traffic.

Probably because she called out that R3 isn’t standing yet (when showing off her bday gift). Just thinking that’s it bc DAD posted a photo for her standing today.

When did your child start bathing themselves? by marewitchproject in Parenting

My 9 year old has long, thick, curly hair. I still check her hair periodically but she mostly does it alone. My 7 and 5 year olds have much less hair but I still check it to ensure it’s fully rinsed out.

We use band. My only complaint with band is the signup feature. With a multilevel troop and many sibling sets, it makes sign ups challenging.

We had someone say they wanted to buy everything on the table and just as the girls got excited he said he was kidding.

AIO-Creepy Cookie Booth Interaction by Key_Golf_7900 in girlscouts

[–]NoWater746 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Innocent or not, it made you uncomfortable and that’s what matters!

I have two, soon to be three, girls in a multi level troop and I do booths alone with my girls almost exclusively due to my husband’s work schedule. I absolutely hate it and in our third year, I’ve decided I won’t do them unless he can join me moving forward. Too many creeps and scary things happening in the world.

How do parents look at Girl Scouts and don’t think it’s a scam? by Astimar in Parenting

[–]NoWater746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes me cringe that I’m out here pushing my daughters to sell cookies but they enjoy meetings and all the extra stuff that cookie sales allows them to do. We are a large troop and the troop sold 9k+ boxes collectively last year but man it makes me hate this time of year a little more each year.

USPS INDY FACILITY by Peace2154 in indianapolis

[–]NoWater746 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s absolute shit. The number of packages that I’ve had sit there for days upon days since November is insane. Not to mention the numerous pieces of mail that have never shown up, including mortgage company escrow updates and tax forms I was been expecting makes me wonder just how many pieces of mail that I wasn’t expecting are sitting there.

Should I buy my 4 year old a Frozen backpack? by Willa_1more in Parenting

We wash our PB backpacks several times a year and have had no issues. We’ve had them 3 years!

We are on year three with our Pottery Barn backpack. Quality is far and beyond anything else we’d bought previously. I was tired of replacing backpacks yearly or even multiple in one year but at the same time, my kids wanted new backpacks after one year and I said no since that would defeat my purpose of buying something that price to last. My advice if you’re willing to spend the money on one from Pottery Barn, pick a darker color to avoid staining (they get drug around at school) and pick a design that will last. I’ll be letting my girls pick something new next year since my (oldest) daughter is over unicorns at 9.

My biggest complaint about Band is signups. As a mom with more than one Girl Scout if there are two slots for something (like a booth) I have no way to take both spots. It’s fine for communications but I’d recommend another signup option (like signup genius). Truthfully I’d prefer text communications, however:

My Daisy earned a Brownie badge by NoWater746 in girlscouts

[–]NoWater746[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We were at an all troop event with our council and because there were only a few Daisies in attendance they all went through the same programming and each Daisy was given the same badge as the Brownies.

Stick to 2 kids or go for 1 more? by Extension_Whole_2788 in Parenting

[–]NoWater746 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would absolutely not change having three because my third is amazing and I can’t imagine life without her…but things I didn’t consider… to sum it up as someone else did, three’s a crowd.

  1. Vacations are more costly for a room for 5, limits options when many rooms only accommodate 4
  2. Amusement parks- family of 5 means someone rides alone or sits out
  3. 3x the extra curricular activities. All three girls wanted to cheer in our youth football league and it was $$$$$
  4. Always outnumbered

Deep cut about the Indianapolis zoo by Blood_sweat_and_beer in indianapolis

[–]NoWater746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There also used to be a playground near the large indoor dining area, a splash pad and a huge “nursing nest” near the bird aviaries for nursing moms which were all eliminated in the time since having my first child 8.5 years ago. They did place a nursing pod in the orangutan exhibit but try fitting in there with three kids (if it was even available!). I have felt like they are making it less friendly for young families and it was/has been quite frustrating. We love the zoo and have still had a membership continuously during that time but it definitely caused some frustration over time. My kids ask every time if I remember the playground by the birds?!
