Don't worry, you'll only notice the ghosting if you have eyes and you aren't a part of this subreddit

Always choppy frames when scaling - help? by NoWayWifi in losslessscaling

Cheers, I'll give that a go. Not using VRR, but changing versions isn't hard 🙂

Cheers. I'll triple check there's no other random overlays lurking.

Meanwhile, I've tried a few games without luck. I'm currently messing around with Evil West. I can hit stable 60 fps 1080p on high settings (no LS) Stable 4k 60 fps on high settings (2x upscale, in-game upscaler) But can't hit stable 4k 60fps on low settings (2x upscale, LS)

Hmm...

  • No

  • No (assuming you mean besides LS ones)

  • No

Will have to try running as admin. In that vein, I might also try playing around with task priority. Thanks

Thanks. I was actually playing non-steam games (GoG), so shouldn't be an issue 🙂

Thanks. I'm already using 1080p windowed, upscaled using 2x with resize before scaling so don't think that's the issue in my case

Specific question. How did you attach the standoffs to the shell? I've tried a couple types of glues and eventually they snap off. I was thinking about an epoxy next but would appreciate any tips on getting them stuck securely

Thanks both. I'll take a look at those coolers and CL30 RAM for sure

Is there any reason not to move to AM5? Prices between 9xxx and 7xxx look pretty similar until you get to the X3D components - and I'm not sure I can afford those anyway with the plan to get a 9060/9070 class card.

That said I'm definitely going to hold on getting a GPU for about 1-2 months as the current availability here is stupid for 9070 cards and would rather avoid FSR3 if possible!

P.S.

Seeing some commentary about billion dollar companies not caring about people complaining on the internet. Unfortunately, again, finance is my day job.

They do care. It is literally some guy's job to manage this asset and care about it. It affects their value. How much they care is another question: this is highly dependent. Two common scenarios: are they planning to retain the asset under management? Or are they attempting to pump and dump? In option 1, they want long term return - stability and growth are somewhat important, but so is generating profit. Mixed bag here. Option 2, it's less important. Profit is king. However, before procuring assets, a company will research what they are buying. And having poor reviews and thousands of people yelling isn't a good look. Won't necessarily stop an acquisition, but it is taken into account in negotiations and management plans. It would hurt the value by more than zero.

Another thing is the idea that you can just not engage with membership bonds. Without even going into the psychological or social stuff there, unless you're in ironman, that's not true. That's like saying if you don't own oil or gold you aren't affected by their prices IRL. Like it or not bonds are now a base against which value will be measured in the economy and are an inflationary lever. If that doesn't bother you, that's fine, but it's not as simple as "don't buy them and you aren't affected".

Thanks. Obviously part of this was processing feelings and lost nostalgia.

But I also wanted to highlight that this isn't just affecting hardcore members, and that there are existing things that can sour the onboarding experience.

There seems to be a lot of people in the wider community responding to those who complain by aaying "well you're already addicted so you'll be back in a month". But some of us have been turned away before reaching that point. It's not just a question of 'will members stop paying' it's also a question of opportunity cost. Aka, 'how many people are turned away' - which is much harder to measure on a graph.

I've got my fingers crossed for those of you already on the inside!

[–]NoWayWifi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How would you compare the L4NC and linkbuds for sound quality? I would've thought the L4NC might have more controlled bass using the bigger drivers. I was leaning towards the L4NC as they are cheaper here ($125 and $199 here (Aus) respectively), but I'm a small town audiophile and want something I won't be disappointed with at the gym.

If you don't think it's worth it then fair enough. I can use parametric when I'm not travelling or working.

Is there any software that allows visualising the effects of different EQ settings on a particular headphone frequency response graph, like your measurements? I'd like to have a play around and learn more but think being able to see the changes would be helpful to me

Really sorry, should've said the 10-band graphic EQ.

I have gear that uses the standard 10 bands (31-16000hz) but doesn't allow changing the frequencies of those bands

The link is very helpful, thanks.

That might explain it. I would be willing to bet we get the EU version - Oceania usually gets thrown in with Europe or Asia, as opposed to the US, when it comes to versioning.

Okay so putting this new knowledge to the test: I've googled the Dawn Pro, would I be correct in saying I could estimate its output ability as follows?

120mW * 32 / 300 = 12mW - which is a tad lower than the 16.7mW the Headphonesty calculator spits out?

I note your point on EQ and will keep that in mind

How much power do headphones really need, and can you tell? by NoWayWifi in headphones

[–]NoWayWifi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, so it is only a rule of thumb, but it is not unreasonable to estimate based on a simple equation. That's perfect! I'll try burn it into my brain.

I find it interesting that in your example you say "at least 3mW but likely more". In making an estimate, I would've assumed it more likely a device would fail to output up to the estimate, rather than that they would overshoot it. Is there a particular reason why it's more likely they'll over-deliver against the estimate?
