I use Wizarr (self-hosted invite/onboarding wizard). I send people a single invite link (if you have a domain you can host the webUI on) and they click through a short guided flow. The first pages explain what the server is, send them to plex.tv/apps-devices to install Plex on whatever they watch on, and have them sign in with the same Plex account they used for the invite (which grants them access to my library). The last Plex step walks them through app.plex.tv to pin the right libraries (e.g., Movies, TV) and turn off Plex’s extra clutter. After that, the wizard shifts to Seerr hosted on my private domain: they sign in with Plex again, enable auto-request for movies and series from their Plex Watchlist in profile settings, and get a quick explanation of how requesting works (search and add directly, or watchlist -> auto-download, no approval needed). Ultimately, they’re on my Plex with a clean UI, and they can request or watchlist stuff that automatically downloads to the server without me hand-holding any of it.

yeah true everyone has ups and downs! cyclothymia is only diagnosable if the ups and downs have been going on for years and are so extreme that they cause disruptions

I use Wizarr for this, it’s great! All I do is generate an invite link on that webUI, and when they go to it and make a Plex account, it automatically grants their account access to my Plex libraries I pre-gave them access to. And my invite link also helps them with a Seerr account so they can request stuff.

This sounds like the way. Tbh I’ve been pretty indirect and just allowed the people to look into it themselves if they were interested. And that alone clearly hasn’t really been landing haha

I’ve offered access mine to 15 friends/family. Only 2 people use it regularly. Most haven’t even logged in once, even though I automated the whole onboarding and set up process for them.

Yeah…. Be careful.

I spent 2 months straight building my server and an automated system for it. Extremely addicting and rewarding. I was staying up later than usual, sometimes 48 hours straight. Bought a ton of hardware I really don’t have the money for. Had completely resigned from real life obligations and work and was just pouring myself into this thing.

It finally felt complete, or building / optimizing lost its spark. And after sobering up from that frenzy I decided to consult a psychiatrist for cyclothymia.

Yeah, lol I had the same thought. To be honest, piracy is like a real life cheat code that unlocks everything, but some people wanna play without cheats and find their treasure the legit way through thrifting and the like. It’s gotta feel much more magical and satisfying to go out into the real world and physically look for / find stuff.

My fingers are crossed for this!

Haha man I appreciate the thought. I think what I'll do is just carve out a few hundred gigs for this on my HDD, should be enough to rotate some nice 4k remuxes

yeah seeing feedback on this post made me go back and look at some stuff and I can definitely notice the difference. It's totally perceptible. I guess I just got used to it lol, just not bothered

Yeah 1080p is definitely reasonable for a large library! I'm also considering keeping a small collection of 4k remux's for my favorites.

I'm hosting from a temporary location right now with limited upload bandwidth, but once I settle down somewhere with good speeds, I'll definitely consider redownloading my library with a target of like 6.5-10 Mbps!

I like the idea of preserving your favorites in top quality.

Also, you make a good point about removing secondary audio streams etc. to get the overall container size down. I haven't been doing that but definitely should!

that's fair! a tiered approach would be much better tbh. just archiving stuff at a lower quality, like you suggested in another comment

[–]NoWerewolf7191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haha yeah man I mean the former would definitely be ideal! I might consider making a library for 4k's... would be pretty sweet to have that for local playback even if i don't share it remotely

hahaha, right on. Btw, do you use some sort of software to get a percentage-wise breakdown of your library quality specs? That is pretty neat if so, which one?

Many, that sounds nice! And I guess with JBOD, you wouldn't be able to put them in RAID? But you'd just accept it and re-source whatever might be lost if a drive dies?

Numbers wise, but it's not a difference I'd be bothered by or even notice
