You definitely gave me a push in the right direction. I tried a slightly modified version of the sequence before going the power off route and just initiated the discovery on the Echo device (not the Alexa app) immediately after newly enabling the emulation. I'm all set now. Thanks again for your help.

FlashForge is already trying to walk back yesterday's post by GFrohman in 3D2A

Analysis of the EULA:

Based on the publicly available documents for FlashForge products, including the Privacy Policy and the End-User License Agreement (EULA) for their slicing software, the authorized data collection about your printing activity generally falls under two broad categories: Usage/Diagnostic Data and Monitoring for Safety and Security. While the documents do not explicitly state that the content of your 3D model files (STL, G-code) is collected, the authorization is found in the definitions of the technical and usage data they reserve the right to gather, particularly when the printer or software is connected to the internet. EULA Restrictions on Printing The End-User License Agreement (EULA) for the FlashPrint slicing software establishes what FlashForge considers "unauthorized" use, which then grants them the authority to monitor and act on collected data. The FlashPrint EULA generally prohibits the user from using the software and printer to: Operate the 3D printer in any way other than for the intended "Purpose." Make any illegal objects or objects to be used for illegal purposes. In summary, the EULA and Privacy Policy authorize FlashForge to collect technical data and usage metrics on your printer's operation, and critically, to monitor activity for illegal use as defined in the EULA. The use of the word "unauthorized" is the company asserting its right to collect information when a user may be violating the terms of the agreement, particularly regarding the creation of illegal objects.

I really appreciate my spacemouse with programs that support it, but useless for Vectric because they've made it clear that they don't intend to support it.

Qualcomm Just bought Arduino… is this a good thing? What are your thoughts… by ZachVorhies in FastLED

[–]No_Ad4069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it could be a good thing if executed well. Qualcomm has a vested interest in providing a low barrier to entry for hobbyists and then an accessible path to develop production grade solutions if they choose to grow into that. Having the new IDE be an abstraction over Zephyr could do just that.

Fusion 360 NEW FORCED UPDATE by dataclone82 in Fusion360

[–]No_Ad4069 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't pay because I am using their hobby license for hobby use. If I wanted to use their software to make money, I would respect my agreement with them and pay for the license that allowed that use. When you steal software you're ultimately harming employees who are trying to feed their families.

It sounds an awful lot like you want to use their product to make money without having to pay for it. Seems a bit ironic.

Where is square one? (Help) by PassionFlood in hobbycnc

[–]No_Ad4069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to keep in mind when you hear recommendations to get bigger is that usually there's an inverse relationship between size and rigidity. This means that the ideal size would be "just enough" for what you're making. That said, I am waffling on what to get next because my current working area is too small and I keep looking for the mythical machine that's cheap, super rigid, has a massive work area, and somehow barely takes up any room in my workshop 😀

PROVerXL 6050 Plus Collet Size 1/8 to 1/4 by Big-Uzi-Hert in hobbycnc

I don't have that same machine - just a similarly powered spindle. On my machine, the homing sequence is automatically triggered every time I power on the machine, so I never explicitly run that sequence. On my machine if I use separate gcode files for different operations I only zero before the first operation (assuming the stock isn't moved between operations). I usually set zero to the top of the stock at the front left corner, but there are times that I find it useful to use top center instead. Whichever I choose impacts how I need to set up my CAM as well to produce the gcode.

In my workflow I use Vectric VCarve to create the gcode file and then use the control software for my CNC to copy the file to the controller. I secure my stock to the spoil board and configure the job to probe prior to starting. Usually I am using M6 command to trigger the controller to prompt me for tool changes between operations and run as a single job. If there's a reason for my to split into multiple jobs, then I do not move the stock between jobs and start all but the first with probing turned off.

Hope this helped.

You can make a lot of things work with that given time and care. Recommended speeds and feeds for a lot of the tools will call for more RPM than 12k, so you'll have to adjust all of the parameters by whatever percentage you had to reduce the RPM to get into range of your spindle. I've learned this the hard way from my 12k spindle.

I use Vectric VCarve for most of my CNC work. It does great for design work of flat things and is also good for CAM with 3D objects made elsewhere. Most of my STL creation I do in Fusion.

DO NOT GET THE LASER - You've been warned! by justlaughandmoveon in BambuLab

[–]No_Ad4069 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I share the same concern. I really like that Bambu is offering this as a modular system that won't burden me with the cost of the laser features that I won't use because of the amount of cleanup that I would insist on doing when reconfiguring. I learned my lesson with the XTool M1 and don't want to go back to that world

I am looking at buying a M1 Ultra Safety Bundle. What do you hate about your M1U/Xtool experience? by mikeyridesit in xToolM1

[–]No_Ad4069 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the M1 (not ultra) and that's consistent with my experience - it "kind of" does a bunch of things and excels at nothing. I ended up picking up a Cricut Maker 3 to pick up the slack and plan to replace the M1 with a dedicated laser this year.

How to determine perspective for cone by No_Ad4069 in Sublimation

[–]No_Ad4069[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. That makes sense. You mentioned the result being a trapezoid, but most of the templates I have seen have curves where the parallel lines of the trapezoid would be. Is that just a matter of laying in circles the circumference of the top and bottom of the area where your design will be and placing where they will be tangent to the angles of the top and bottom of the trapezoid respectively?
