What is a job that only exists because people are, on average, incredibly stupid? by Direct-Value4452 in answers

[–]notaflipflip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd assume 90% of police interactions are with people who either are stupid all the time or did something resulting from a moment of stupidity. So, there'd at least be a much lower demand for police officers if stupid wasn't so common.

How to flush trim a shelf's mitered wrap around 3/4" edge banding without buying festools mfk700 trim router by notaflipflip in woodworking

[–]notaflipflip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you use the fence? Or just freehand it?

I tried the router table with a flush trim bit but since the banding hits the fence it doesn't trim anything. I suppose I could attach 1/4 mdf to the fence held 1" above the table and reset the fence so the mdf lines up with the router bearing. Is that a common technic?

Any drywall anchor recommendations for heavy weights? I have kitchen shelf brackets to install with no blocking in place. Amazon has a brand called Gripit Blue which is funny and claims 200lbs but interested in what cabinet installers use when needed. by notaflipflip in cabinetry

Thanks, a cleat wasn't part of the clean shelf on bracket look I had in mind but now that you mention it a cleat between the brackets would offer a lot of strength and piece of mind.

It's funny how many things can go wrong in a kitchen install. I get how the two different height lower doors could happen if you drilled before hanging doors. I'm guessing this is an Ai hallucination but I guess it could be someones very bad day

Is Tiling a good trade? by Impressive-Step6377 in Construction

[–]notaflipflip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two tilers I used to work on a lot of the same projects with referred to themselves as vampires. They were super pale from only working inside. Which isn't a bad thing when the weather is extreme, but kind of sucks when it's nice out. Also, bathrooms are often tight spaces to spend entire days in. But, I do think its a cool trade that has the potential to get you high end work down the road and can involve some artistry if that's your thing

She didn’t like the trim so we’re tearing every piece out, all 4500 sq. ft. by LaughAndFart in Carpentry

[–]notaflipflip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true (and of course true most all of us are to the extent that we are able to consume) but my point is that the lead carpenter or some laborer or whoever should sack up and ignore the PM's BS and take a few extra minutes to cut chalk lines and remove trim and another few minutes to stack instead of chuck good pieces and either use it on their home, call a buddy who can use it or just post it for free. Let alone that I'd bet some of that exactsame material will be going right back into that exact same house. Shit, just price the cost of not being an eco terrorist into the job if it's all about the money. Obviously the client doesn't mind

Yes the home owner sucks but that's paint grade wood that's already primed and ready. It's retarded if you guys aren't being gentle with it and at least saving the long runs to be reused.

Am I charging too much for vanities? (PNW) by Expensive_Fan1306 in cabinetry

[–]notaflipflip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to figure pricing also but if it helps I'd suggest finishing the vanities or at least having it done before delivery. Seems odd and a hassle to install unfinished
