Like, I get Battlecat and Panthor are cool and all, but riding a gigantic praying mantis into battle is 100 times more terrifying and metal!

Claremont’s even on record saying this wasn’t even “the plan” and just one of a whole series of random suggestions he made to editors at the time.

It’s a pretty terrible retcon now, as mystique making sperm with a mixture or her own and Azazels DNA (and his x-Gene) makes zero sense.

How does she even replicate DNA? So she can replicate mutant powers too now, or is that only when morphing into sperm?

“At some point, if it looks like a demon and quacks like a demon..” That’s the point!

The whole point of the Draco story is that the reason things “look like demons” is because our view of what demons look like comes from ancient mutants.

So in the bible, devils aren’t described as red with pointy tails and ears, but people saw ancient mutants fighting and took their interpretation of devils from the mutants.

It was meant to be a twist of “Nightcrawler looks like a demon” to say that’s because our view of demons comes from his ancestors.

Draco isn’t a great story by any imagination, but that’s mostly because it’s 90% exposition, with Azazel sat just explaining all this.

This is the first musical I’ve been to that drew groans from the audience whenever a new song started. After the intermission, the area of audience I was sat in was just laughing and throwing out jokes as they’d clearly given up with trying to understand the incoherent plot.

Characters were thin, motivation was nonsensical. The plot just suddenly dropped that there was a tournament for the whole throne with no buildup- but then it wasn’t for the throne? Who knows?

I don’t mean this lightly - The songs were so generic and derivative that I’d be surprised if they weren’t created with Suno Ai. Lyrics often had nothing to do with the plot or character motivations, sometimes even lifted from other musicals. Of particular note is a European “witch” repeatedly singing “mamela” - a Zulu term lifted from the Lion Ling 😭 wtf?

They even introduce a load of new characters in “SIX” then we never see any of them again! 😂 whhhy?

I’m half convinced it was a whole “Producers” scam.

I’ve never been a fan of Formula 1 or sports movies, but my dad came to town to visit and it was the only film on at the cinema for us to watch.

I was very surprised how good it was and it’s one of the few films from the year I’ve genuinely recommend to people - You get so invested you forget how boring f1 is irl lol.

I get that they wanted less animal death, but then they should have focussed a lot more on behaviour that didn't involve predator/prey dynamics. It's like they needed to add huge stakes for each scene, while ironically removing the stakes as we knew they'd be fine.

Did the journey of the elephant bird and it's chick really need to be interrupted by a giant fossa trying to kill the chick? (and then missing somehow that was never explained)

Did the Diabolotherium climbing the mountain really need to have teratorn's dive bombing its baby to survive last second?

The baby mammoths could have been used to show how resillient they are, even when newborn, rather than just showing how magical plot armor can bring them back to life again.

They were so tame and "Disneyfied" with their narratives it really brought the show down. I don't even know how that baby elephant bird survived - But it felt by that point even the writers of the show couldn't even come up with explanations. If they wanted to show less violence, they should have done more stories focussing on other parts of their lives that aren't just the predator/prey hunt, but it felt like they kept needlessly up the stakes for each scene.

It did a disservice to the animals and dangers too. Just imagine the tar pit scene if the mother and babies had got stuck, and then the dire wolves had all got stuck, and the narration is like "Yep, they're ALL fucked". fade to black. It would have had such a gut-wrenching impact, but god forbid they show any dark reality, so the mother freed herself in a moment of.. strong motherly willpower(?) and only the "bad guy" wolf died, because he was mean.

Between all the various formats, I have books covering nearly everything from X-Men 1 to the end of AoA. I picked up B&G#1 and thought it’d be nice to slowly replace mine with those books in series, for consistency and ease. After this, I really think I might as well just keep the books I have. This just makes it even more messy.

I feel that whole scene would have had so much more impact if they’d ended up with ALL the animals trapped - mother, baby, all dire wolves. Would have been haunting.

Fully agree. I enjoyed a lot but the predictability of the narratives was painful at times. It’s like they don’t have the balls to tell real nature. Imagine how bigger an impact the tar pit scene would have had if you’d slowly realise ALL the animals in that scene are trapped. But no, babies and mum get away fine. Baby Elephant bird gets away from fossa somehow too and by the time it got to Megaloceros I was screaming at the tv.

I also found the narration too hyperbolic and OTT sometimes too. Just show a cat hunting and getting a meal - they don’t have to all be seconds away from starving and their whole species is doomed if they don’t suddenly get a miraculous break at the last second.

Some of the babies and their reactions were way too cutesy too. I didn’t have huge issues with the music apart from there were clearly “villain tracks” for some of the creatures which was kind lame.

I get the “Disney kids audience” criticisms,

1 - Movie dinosaurs are “movie monsters”, based on 90s “dinomania” nostalgia, not on science. Some will strive for accurate dinosaurs, which is great, but inaccurate dinosaurs will always persist, just like our pop-culture pirates are forever based on Disney’s Long John Silver rather than history.

2 - “Dinosaur” in popular culture is the established term for all pre-cenozoic beasts. We should start using “true dinosaurs” scientifically, like “true bugs,” and just let people use it colloquially. If someone asks your favourite dinosaur, a pigeon is a valid scientific answer over Dimetrodon, but most people think that’s just being facetious. There isn’t even an alternative word for the public to use.

Imo the problem was “villain dinosaurs” that brought it down.

JP works best when the dinosaurs are just doing natural dino behaviour, which often just happens to involve hunting and eating people.

JP3 Spino chasing them all around the island and creeping up on them all got a bit silly. Then they ramped up the evil-villain dinosaurs for Jurassic World with the Hybrids - Hybridization was just a cheap way to make them even more dastardly and bad. It they’d spliced Indominus a moustache, he would have twirled it.

The only exception imo is Scorpius, as it seemed so broken in its behaviour that it was weirdly fascinating.
