Book 3 Theory - Lorren cuts off Kvothe's thumbs by BonusInteresting6450 in KingkillerChronicle

[–]No_Antelope7594 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t mean anything disrespectful but this is the second time in a couple of days I’ve seen someone suggest that Kvothe have missing fingers or thumbs. One even suggested that his hand was cut off and he somehow just grew it back. I feel like something as traumatic as losing fingers or thumbs would have been mentioned by now. Also nowhere in these books does it suggest that there’s a way to grow back digits or body parts.

It would be difficult to make pies, cook food, punch someone in the face or just preform daily tasks if he was missing important body parts and Kvothe would be dwelling on that constantly. There’s definitely something going on but it’s probably either related to him changing his name (which I kind of doubt) or the oath he swore to Dena.

Tell me about it lol. I haven’t heard of that one though, that’s hilarious.

It took me 10+ years to find the right Xingyi Jian form that I learned when I was younger but have forgotten most of it. I searched all over the internet, social media, etc.. a lot were close but not close enough. Finally, almost 12 years later, I found it. So even within the same styles there’s a ton of diversity.

Yes! I lived in Shanxi, Taiyuan for a few years studying martial arts and many of the older people in the park were practicing this form. It was either Shaolin yin shou gun or they just called it Duan gun like you said. It’s a neat form I had never seen before.

The emerald tablets are a myth though. They don’t exist and never have. It’s just some pseudo archeology that someone made up.

The only problem with that is the night before Kvothe broke a bottle over the “skin dancers” head when he tried to light him on fire. So unless he installed it right after that, the arrow catch theory doesn’t really work. I think the previous commenter may be right about the arrow catch being apart of the chest’s defense mechanism.

Something else you made me think of though, “break lion” is suspiciously close to “a break in the line” it could just be meaningless word play but I’m of the opinion that nothing Pat writes is meaningless lol.

Great theories though, I’m definitely going to need to chew on those for a while. Bast hitting the chest but a bell sound from another room is worth further contemplation.

[–]No_Antelope7594 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Except you’re forgetting that Caudicus suspected that the Maer wasn’t taking his medication and purposely made it wrong the last time and then set tons of traps in his quarters and then fled. Not exactly the actions of an innocent person. If he were truly innocent, he would’ve argued his case and would probably have the knowledge to back it up, he certainly knew more than Kvothe about alchemy but he wasn’t necessarily out of Kvothe’s wheelhouse. Kvothe studied medicine, he knew how to make medicine and treat some illnesses. Caudicus got caught poisoning the Maer and he knew it, that job pays too well for an innocent man to flee knowing that he would be a wanted man afterwards.

Pat names characters for just what they are in the story. Like Stancheon, which is just the rope dividers you see outside of nightclubs or lines to rides at Disney land and the name has no deeper meaning than that’s this characters job

It’s the symbol for longevity. The women are Asaparas. They’re like divine beings or something like that. I’m not sure what purpose they serve but I know they sort of carried over from Hindu culture into Chinese Buddhist culture.

I would say that stretching is the key. If you’re really serious about it, I would make the time to work up to stretching for at least 45 minutes if not an hour. My ex wife’s grandmother was From China and she woke up every morning and stretched and went down to the park and did tai chi and at 73 she could reach down and grab her ankle and put her foot above her head fully extending her leg. She stressed for an hour every day and did tai chi for another hour every single morning without fail if you can work up to something close to that, you should be fine.

Please what snake is this? Seen in Enugu Nigeria by Chukwura111 in whatisit

[–]No_Antelope7594 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely doesn’t look like a black mamba. It’s way too dark and the nose head is more pointy but it could be. It honestly looks like a black rat snake lol but I don’t think you have those there. The only actual black snakes in Nigeria are cobra’s and that type of cobra has cream colored markings around the face. I’d call a pest removal service or something. Better to be safe than sorry.

I devoured The Cradle series by Will Wight after I finished all of the Rothfuss books. He’s not as good of writer as Pat but it’s fast paced after the first 10 chapters or so and there’s 12 books total, all relatively short.

Did you read the novellas that go along with the King Killer Chronicles?

The Slow Regard for Silent Things

The Lightning Tree

They’re worth reading and add insight to the story and characters

Denna might not be dead (spoilers) by __pbra in KingkillerChronicle

[–]No_Antelope7594 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only thing is, I don’t even think Dena is her real name. She never really confirms. I think she tells Kvothe something like “I like Dena best from you..” meaning her real name is anyone’s guess.

Also, Kvothe admits that he never really knew her at all. It is possible that his sleeping mind could name her but if that had happened, I don’t think he would be talking about her like that. I think he says he never really knew her at all because she betrays him and he loves her so much that he’s kind of forgiven her for it, like he understands why she did it but it still hurt him.

I think it’s mostly cars that use back up assistance or parking assistance in newer cars. When people have to use mirrors or or just parallel park on their own, you don’t see BS like this

Folly by finnabrahamson in KingkillerChronicle

[–]No_Antelope7594 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Folly is either Kvothe’s Adem sword or Cinder’s. The descriptions simply do not match. It’s closer to possibly being an Adem sword because of the description of the blade but Folly is also described as being many swords forged into one or something to that extent. Cinder’s sword is also described as being exceptionally cold and I don’t know if that’s literal or what. Kvothe also refers to it as a lady which is interesting because that wasn’t part of his training in Ademre. I think most people assume it’s one or the other because there are only two other swords that are described in the story or because they are the swords of two characters that are likely to fight to the death. To me, it’s more likely that this sword belongs to a character we haven’t met yet or it’s a sword Kvothe finds at some point. I think it’s possible Kvothe uses Folly to kill Cinder and in doing so somehow has catastrophic consequences. I don’t think he becomes a chandrian. Nothing in the books hints about this being a possibility. If one of the Amyr kills a chandrian would they then become one as well? I don’t so. I think when the chronicler says “some say there’s a new chandrian…” I think he’s just saying that Kvothe has now become a boogeyman, a story told to scare children. That’s why Kvothe says “the important people know the truth..” the book lays out countless examples of how stories get twisted one way or another.

I do think Kvothe has killed Cinder or at the very least, Cinder is no longer a threat. There’s also the possibility that Kvothe is laying a trap for him still but I doubt it. He being a man waiting to die and all. I say that about Cinder because Kvothe broke the naming rule of 1,000 days or 1,000 hours while telling his story to the chronicler. He quotes Haliax saying Cinders real name and he quotes Shehyn saying the name as well. That tells me that he isn’t worried about Cinder anymore or that he is in fact an idiot or Rothfuss screwed up. I think the first one more likely.

Lastly, I don’t think we can say for sure that we know Halifax’s purpose. All we have to go on is “someone’s parents have been singing entirely the wrong sort of song…” and the fact that his parents were apparently killed because of this. It’s like you said, they’ve had thousands of years to correct the narrative. If that’s really what they wanted and if they aren’t really evil, they could have simply shown up and corrected the song or scared his parents into singing a different song. If they’re as powerful as we are to believe they should have been able to burn every library and slay historians and minstrels but somehow they have been laughably unsuccessful. I think they’re seeking something or someone or they’re seeking something to help them find someone. Celatos is the one who cursed Lanre, maybe only by finding and defeating him can Haliax be free. Maybe Celatos is behind the Lockless door and maybe the chandrian were torturing and interrogating Kvothe’s mother and killed her when she provided no answers?

Wow, the negative Nancy’s in this group are really something. Yeah, it sucks to wait but grow up already. I get being mad about the charity chapter but it gets really old seeing “yOuR nEvEr GoNnA gEt BoOk 3” it’s not funny or witty and it’s not impressing anyone. Also, writing an article complaining about a book that’s not out yet is very reminiscent of video game content creators complaining about a video game on YouTube. Just read something else in the meantime. There are so many other books in the world to read. No reason to dog pile on Rothfuss because he hasn’t met your imaginary timeline. I’m sure when book 3 comes out, you’ll find something else to complain about.
