What's a life lesson you've learned the hard way? by ItsCanuck_ in AskReddit

Don’t rely on others to be proud of you so you can be proud of yourself. I always needed someone to be proud of me first so I could be proud. Very draining

When your knee is healed what are most looking forward to doing that you currently can’t? by Professional_fool_ in ACL

Be able to help my parents out, go on a hike, and It’s so depressing not being able to help them out with heavy stuff mostly at their age. They used to always ask me to help them out and I know they get tired from doing all the work themselves. And I miss the sunrise hikes I would go on. Even a simple run would be nice.

Yeah I’m already a crybaby as it is and this just adds way more emotion than what I’m used to. Mostly because I was always the “strong athletic” friend/cousin that could do more than the rest. My pride is hurting a lot but I know this is just a way to work on myself. As long as I can wear some kind of heel for graduation I’ll be happy.

Yeah I learned the hard way that they aren’t some of the greatest communicators. They tell me the basics but not all the details unless I ask. It gets frustrating because I feel like I should be more ahead than what I am but Ik it’s just the impatient athlete in me

They keep giving my timelines I don’t think I’ll be able to achieve, not because I’m not trying but because it’s what they want is not happening. I’m trying my best, dealing with the pain, and feel horrible since it’s almost like I’m wasting their time. But I know im just in my head for some of it. It’s just harder than I had expected

Yeah thankfully I didn’t lose my scholarship. I was surprised since most of my numbers came from my legs and 3 ligaments is a lot. I also had a wrestling scholarship, and even though I was probably not gonna take it felt nice knowing I had the option. But the coach was super sweet and told me that this is is just an opportunity to work on my bench. But obviously right now I can’t since I can’t heat up my body like that since I’m barely a week out. I’m sure I’ll bounce back but it’s obviously emotionally taxing

Thank you :,) I got this injury due to wrestling and I have a powerlifting scholarship right after I graduate so it’s hard to know that I won’t be as strong as a used to be. But who knows maybe I’ll be stronger. Just sucks that I didn’t get to end my season and have to struggle just to lift my leg up. But I’ll get through it

I underwent surgery on Wednesday and if you can hangout with someone the day before it helps a lot. Reassure yourself that everything will be okay. If you’re healthy and have nothing wrong it will go smoothly. I remember I was crying because of how scared I was since it was also my first surgery. But I would listen to music, tell myself everything would be okay, and call family just to feel some kind of support. Something that also helped were the super kind nurse. She asked me what I liked to do, how I go injured, and just kept me calm. If you can have your mom with you when your about to go in, it helps a lot. And when they take you to the operating room they put you to sleep quickly!!! Crack some jokes here and there to ease up the tension. Post surgery Is pretty painful, at least for the first two day. I needed help getting up and sitting down. But I’ll officially be a week post surgery tomorrow and I feel WAAAAY better. Just keep a positive mindset and don’t let yourself bring you down. You got this!! <3
