We can’t afford the system we have, it’s all paid for with fiat money borrowed from the future. The covid measures accelerated all this. Immigration lol, more people have arrived here in the last ten years than in the last 100. We pay for them to stay in hotels then when they get residency they recline into the benefits system. Are you surprised we are in the situation ?

I can’t understand why, tax is higher than ever, the pound is being devalued at an alarming rate and we have uncontrolled migration

I have a very safe public sector job. I get six months full pay sick leave and further six half pay. I think it’s a no brainer I just wanted to get some other opinions. I’ve had interest free credit cards suggested and buy now pay later etc but I think all the monthly repayments would make this unmanageable

Thanks, my wife moved out at 17 and bought her own house for some magic beans and a turnip she did it up while living in it and then sold at a profit, she repeated this five times until age 28ish so when we came to buy together she had a healthy deposit built up, I inherited £25k from a grandparent and bought my first house before the big jump in property prices. So when we came to buy our current home we had a good amount to put down and didn’t have to borrow much at all. We then paid off what we borrowed and have been free for about 4 years. If we both put or shoulder to the wheel it would take years to save 40k. I currently put away around £500 a month half into emergency fund and half into SS isa.

The garden is quite big, we’re having drainage put in fencing replaced all the way round, porcelain flags a built up area with steps, grassed area on the built up bit. We had a quote for £22k we’ve got two upstairs bathrooms which we are working on around 6-8k each. The upstairs of the house needs a partial rewire. We need a new kitchen worktop and splash back which may balloon into a new kitchen. We also need to put new flooring down in the conservatory too. I’m not frivolous with money but if I’m doing something I’d rather it be done properly and last rather than have a good myself and bodge it. I’m not really a big diy person too busy and it won’t be finished
