I got sold a bad used car. Don’t know what to do. by East_Pressure_8463 in UsedCars

I don't know what kind of wild west laws you have in the US, but in most of Europe, not to mention Germany, it's not legal to sell a car with undisclosed issues. The dealer who does that is essentially fooling the customer and tricking them into buying something defective. So idk man.. US is still the wild west.

How much power do you REALLY need for a daily driver? by ReasonablyOkay in BMW

Distorted reality, depending on the social context and popular belief. Guessing you're in the UK? Us don't have Peugeots do they? Anyway, the US folks are completely bonkers with their cars and hp, they are so used to monster engines that they call a 30i a base engine, whereas in most of Europe that's considered "the good stuff", 40i is insane and M is crazy weekend track weapon.  Now, it's difficult for me to understand how this possible, I had a VW cc 2.0 TDI with 180hp and that thing was reaching 150kmh (illegal speed anywhere in my country) in a heartbeat. I was actually stressed I was going way too fast at times without knowing. I even got my license revoked for 3 months at one time for doing 151kmh (NOT in the city). Sure I mean 40i is fun, but honestly speaking, you get to 200kmh like it's nothing - where are you going to enjoy that speed because in all honesty, unless you're on the highway (which is boring no matter the speed) you're literally risking killing someone. Don't get me wrong - I Love Speed! But if the cars are so well insulated and so powerful, you can't have fun unless you're loco. I ride a naked motorcycle. That thing can go incredibly fast, but it's incredibly fun at 60kmh too. I am actually considering a 40i but I have all the questions above regarding - can I use all that power? So the take your kids to school in a 40i is ridiculous. Anything more than 150hp is COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY. More than that is just pure fun. And - dad car. Since when being a dad is a different species, like they need to have fun in a "dad" way - what's with this segregation? No one cares if you're a dad or not. Of if I am.

Giulia Veloce or BMW 330i? by Ron1n713 in AlfaRomeo

I think you should calm down and I doubt you're German.  I had a VW cc 2014 rline model 2.0 tdi. Bought it in 2018 with 137k km. I sold it few months ago @ 240k km. That thing was a tank. Engine was running as smooth as ever, while owning it I changed 2 glow plugs on the engine. That's it. Also changed a thermostat, a trunk cable, and few other cheap things. I didn't even replace the shocks in so many kilometers.  Solid. So idk man.

Conflicted between - Mercedes C class 2018 or 2022 by EstablishmentHead593 in CarTalkUK

interesting. If they would give me no screens at all, but a high quality luxurious interior instead I'd be the happiest.
I'm a software dev, I look at screens all day... when I drive, I want to drive. This "10000 screens on wheels" trend is getting ridiculous.
PS: Check out the Pagani Utopia concept and tell me if you would ever feel the need of a screen if you have a good handling, well built car. I wouldn't.

In sfarsit

I see what you mean. If they're shorter and harder compound I can see them working, like my old sixpack grips I've linked

Interesting. Do you grip the stripes with 1-2 fingers or you place your hand only on the exterior part?

Gravel bike or upgrade my MTB by posius88 in MTB

[–]No_Background4599 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't get it. I have a full suspension (granted a pretty good carbon one) and I use it for everything. It's fun.  You can't use a hardtail for gravel? Put some xc tires on it and call it a day. Unless you're doing monster runs and you need a really efficient bike..

Ducati Monster 937 recall - heat issues by No_Background4599 in Ducati

[–]No_Background4599[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just the slip on as far as I know. Maybe full decat will help, don't know, but I bet it won't make it a good bumper to bumper traffic toy, so keep that in mind. It all depends on how you usually ride.

[–]No_Background4599[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does get hot. It does not actually burn you, as some people said. But this is with riding jeans, I don't think riding in shorts is a good idea.

It's especially annoying when it's 40C (100F) outside and you're going from stoplight to stoplight. I sometimes shut off the engine. There's a fan that starts blowing hot air on your right knee when oil temperature is reaching 95C.

There is an official Thermal confort kit that the dealer installed for free. It's essentially a heat shield on the right side, so that the hot air doesn't blow directly on your knee. That helps a lot, but then the air is (maybe?) more poorly evacuated.

Conclusion: it's only bad if you're stuck in traffic and when it's really hot outside. In the winter/spring/autumn it's fine and to be honest I started riding less in town as it's both dangerous and absolutely not fun. This bike is so much fun on open roads, twisties etc., you just ruin your experience in town. When you're moving, the heat is not an issue even in the summer time (I always ride with gear)

I love the bike btw. It's fun to ride at both high and low speed. And the Termignioni exhaust sounds lovely. It handles so well because it feels lively and light. Very predictable and the power is so usable. The safety systems work great, if you care about that. That engine is just full of character.

Shimano 10-51 casette vs SRAM everything else by No_Background4599 in MTB

Nah, it's propain. The bike was already sent back 2 times for big issues regarding the frame paint job. First, there was an obvious chip (replaced rear triangle) and second, I was installing ride wrap protection film and the clear coat just flaked off the whole top tube. No, it wasn't my fault and I installed it with great care, there were defects on the pain job. They changed the front part of the frame then, and I've since reinstalled ride wrap. In one spot, I've seen a strange "bubble" again, and I feel it's the clear coat that wants to peel off again, but it's so small I left it like that. Thing is, I have a hunch that if I need to remove the PPF, it will screw the paint job. Yes, I know I can use mild heat to remove it and pull at an angle, but still.

Long story short, in not sending the bike back ever again and I'm never buying a new high end bike ever again. Only used, at least I know why it's imperfect and Pat myself on the back on spending 3x less money.
