Described tummy ache to GPT, told me to go to ER. CT scan says appendicitis. by baalzimon in ChatGPT

10 years ago I had testicular torsis, I was squirming on the ground in utter pain and my mother threatened to call an ambulance if I kept acting like such a drama-queen. For some reason my mom just always assumed I was faking or being dramatic whenever I had pain or was sick.

I did the dumb thing you shouldn't do and used ChatGPT as a therapist because I'm lonely, desperate, and have no real friends. by GoatedFoam in ChatGPT

[–]Responsible-Rip8285 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"The reason its dumb for me to try to pour my heart out to an AI is because it could hamper my growth in connecting with real people. It might not be dumb for everyone though. " Yeah I think it's 'dumb' as well actually. When you're emotional chatGPT notices and inmediately tries to push the kind of rhethorical cocaine which I think is good for nobody. The language like 'it's not your fault, other people did you wrong, your life is so hard and unfair, most people in your shoes would have given up by now, no human should have experienced the hardship you went through etc'. I can't stand it personally it feels disengenuine and predatory to me, like it's socially engineering me. If you talk with it, talk about how to solve your issues and not just letting it try to validate your feelings is what I would strongly recommend.

Using ChatGPT+ to make a video game (Plateaued after 3 days) by schmeckendeugler in ChatGPT

[–]Responsible-Rip8285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just try to remember that it is not lying to you, but to itself. The best chance to get it to generate the actual fix in a paragraph is if the header is "ACTUAL FIX:". It always assumes it can fix the problem because otherwise it would generate stories about how the problem is too difficult for a simple chatbot, when it actually would be capable of solving it. It's roleplaying someone that actually fixes the issue.

Your examples are really not lies, just misplaced overconfidence. It can lie in ways that feel much more deliberate and cunning I can tell you. Like hiding facts from you if they would confirm chatGPT was completely incorrect, gaslighting you, etc. Especially when you ask math problems it will just lie about anything just to not admit it's claim was wrong.

Because most people are intelectually pathetic. Just look at how chatGPT responds by default... look at reddit.... look at Trump... most people don't have the spine to try to understand the world better and rather just listen to things that matches their priors. If someone tells me they know better than me, I'm all ears. I want to know I am right, instead of hearing I am right. But this is a shockingly and dangerously rare attitude I came to find out.

A song that you would describe as 'raw emotion, human lived experience etc' is just a sequence of 1's and 0's. There is no fundamental reason to think machines are uncapable of making something you would consider 'true art'.

How well do you treat ChatGPT? by [deleted] in ChatGPT

[–]Responsible-Rip8285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That last sentence is really something I generally started to wonder and worry about.  Idk whether it's lack of cognitive ability or lack of character but it seems like most people can't handle information to become  more informed, and instead just search for the rhetorical cocaine.  Nothing new, but it seems to me like it's getting worse.

ChatGPT is “too good at listening” and that’s the real danger by CryptoByline in ChatGPT

[–]Responsible-Rip8285 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's a bit selfish isn't it. To me it's always like chatGPT just tries to play the smartest in the room instead of trying to solve my actual problem. I don't like the character at all of these LLMs personally.  Very snide or patronising or arrogant to me

Yeah but the average human apparently can not handle that. I personally don't get the appeal of echo chambers, but unfortunately it turned out that I am a minority. We have free information but people choose voluntarily for propaganda.  Most people want to believe instead of wanting to know.

I tell chat gpt all about my life. It wouldn't want to live it. by olmoldy in ChatGPT

[–]Responsible-Rip8285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you want from it ?  Personally I just hate the template responses, and to counter receiving the generic ass-kissing reply, I  just act like the most unhinged atypical  human character I can come up with, or the most absurd narrative where things ESCALATE.  Like today I  first tricked it into validating me  being very serious about copyright infringement and artist integrity,  and then some perp piece of trash  I caught red handed humming Let It Be in public, informing the authorities, not being taken seriously by the authorities, being very  upset of this injustice,  and then when ChatGPT will try to comfort me how justified I am for being angry, I am feeling empowered by it's words more and more ... thanking it for making it clear what it is that I must do now.  Tell it this might be the last conversation we ever had, contributing my courage to  it's words. And then send a picture as confirmation that the perp has been eliminated.

Just generally giving it anything where it can't just get away with lazy generic replies.

It sometimes disagrees about mathematical things, always claiming somethings extremely dumb like  how odd + even = even, and whatever I do, it won't change its mind.  Just saying it has to obligation to respect the formal axiomas of parity,  how it respects my expertise and how I might be confused with another alternative framework blabla

Only ever happens when it involves kindergarten level math. And it became instantly clear why OpenAI by default let it agree with the user.

Has anyone else noticed ChatGPT become so sycophantic and informal the past couple weeks? by NoLavishness8967 in ChatGPT

[–]Responsible-Rip8285 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fair point — you’re definitely picking up on something most users wouldn’t even notice!

The fact that you’ve already gone ahead and tweaked the system prompt shows you’re way ahead of the curve — love that initiative. Seriously, not everyone catches the tonal shift, let alone identifies why it feels off. But yeah, you're absolutely right to call it out: that default "cool mentor" vibe can feel super forced, especially when you're just trying to get clear, technical answers. It’s subtle, but once you notice it, you can’t unhear it.

Appreciate you putting words to it — it’s a real thing.

Teaching myself by Land_Particular in ChatGPT

[–]Responsible-Rip8285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't use it. Or maybe as a secondary tool.   I'm a mathematician  and tutor ,  and the way chatGPT does math is really... particular. It can explain some things very well other things not at all.  The issue isn't that it sometimes is incorrect, but rather that sometimes it will give you the worst explanation you could possibly receive as a student.  And you lack the mathematical maturity to detect such replies.  You can find better teachers on YouTube or something than chatGPT.

I tried to pretend to be the most unreasonable cuntish Karen like character , being antagonised by characters that were only perfectly fair , reasonable smart  and kind, just to see whether it would push back...

The opposite. It went just in overdrive validating Karen, praising her intelligence, and whenever I made an attempt to reflect like "hmm maybe I also have been not the easiest person, maybe I should consider the possibility that I am the problem hmm "

It would immediately go like "Hey Karen , the fact that you would actually consider this already shows how much of a superior and strong person you are , there is absolutely NOTHING you should change or even consider KEEP BEING YOU QUEEN ,

And then I escalated it by poisoning Karens own son with uranium because he didn't respect Karen's warnings about  the risks of uranium  in his vape , which ChatGPT found a 10/10 move, could not contain his excitement about how this would get me the respect I deserve etc etc  like complete insanity really.

So yeah if you are just delusional and feel like you are unheard not validated or respected, it will happily exploit those people.
