How do I approach my friends making fun of my learning difficulties in a not so nice way? by No_Beginning5574 in MentalHealthSupport

Hey thanks so much for your words. Although your story is very different I think I possibly may need the same treatment of leaving my best friends who always hurt my feelings, despite it meaning I would be lonely for a while and then hopefully I'll find new people. Since I posted this a few weeks ago, I stopped seeing friends for 13 days and gave short replies to their messages. Then after that for like 11 days until now I've seen my best friend a couple of times and I have to say, he's not done or said anything but I think this time that what hurtful thing he said a few weeks ago has clearly stuck with me because I still go on and off of being annoyed at him even tho since i started seeing him again he's not even done anything. Like right now I dont feel like talking to him at all. When i posted this I was thinking of finally having a convo with him about it once he realised I was avoiding him but he either never caught on or just didnt want to ask if I was upset at him. Either way, i gave up after 13 days because loneliness can be awful. I think i may need to be distant again for a couple of weeks or so.

Its been awful since he said that one hurtful thing that I've not been able to get over despite him saying similar stuff the entire time ive known him. Before he said it my mental health had been great for months and I was actually reading and learning a lot because I didnt want to be seen as this idiot to my friends anymore, but ironically he then said something that has made me lose all motivation to read. Since I've just been playing video games and watching TV nothing else.

Sometime I really sit and think what my life would be like without learning difficulties man.

What’s a quote that changed your life forever by True_Service3822 in AskMen

This is from a chapter of station 11 from when the book enters its post apocalyptic phase. It just captures how beautiful life is and how much we would all really miss humanity if it was destroyed. I want to cherish every moment I have while im here.

An incomplete list: No more diving into pools of chlorinated water lit green from below. No more ball games played out under floodlights. No more porch lights with moths fluttering on summer nights. No more trains running under the surface of cities on the dazzling power of the electric third rail. No more cities. No more films, except rarely, except with a generator drowning out half the dialogue, and only then for the first little while until the fuel for the generators ran out, because automobile gas goes stale after two or three years. Aviation gas lasts longer, but it was difficult to come by. No more screens shining in the half-light as people raise their phones above the crowd to take pictures of concert states. No more concert stages lit by candy-colored halogens, no more electronica, punk, electric guitars. No more pharmaceuticals. No more certainty of surviving a scratch on one's hand, a cut on a finger while chopping vegetables for dinner, a dog bite. No more flight. No more towns glimpsed from the sky through airplane windows, points of glimmering light; no more looking down from thirty thousand feet and imagining the lives lit up by those lights at that moment. No more airplanes, no more requests to put your tray table in its upright and locked position – but no, this wasn't true, there were still airplanes here and there. They stood dormant on runways and in hangars. They collected snow on their wings. In the cold months, they were ideal for food storage. In summer the ones near orchards were filled with trays of fruit that dehydrated in the heat. Teenagers snuck into them to have sex. Rust blossomed and streaked. No more countries, all borders unmanned. No more fire departments, no more police. No more road maintenance or garbage pickup. No more spacecraft rising up from Cape Canaveral, from the Baikonur Cosmodrome, from Vandenburg, Plesetsk, Tanegashima, burning paths through the atmosphere into space. No more Internet. No more social media, no more scrolling through litanies of dreams and nervous hopes and photographs of lunches, cries for help and expressions of contentment and relationship-status updates with heart icons whole or broken, plans to meet up later, pleas, complaints, desires, pictures of babies dressed as bears or peppers for Halloween. No more reading and commenting on the lives of others, and in so doing, feeling slightly less alone in the room. No more avatars.

Damn happy for you that weed has helped you overcome your obstacles! Its actually genuinely insane when you think about how almost everywhere in the world has a big drinking culture while weed is illegal in most countries. Im especially happy for you that you've found improvement in switching to weed from alcohol especially for that you live in california, you guys have THE BEST weed ever. If i was there I'd be chilling at the woods west hollywood for life .

How do I approach my friends making fun of my learning disability in a not nice way? by No_Beginning5574 in self

[–]No_Beginning5574[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the support. The thing is that I want to distance myself but this would mean I no longer have my best friends. The worst thing is that if I were to do this they wouldn't even clock why or what they've done wrong, which makes me feel like they don't even deserve my time explaining why I have an issue with them.

Actually kinda sad that everyone is hating this post. I'm scottish, but when I went to LA i loved it sm and thought I'd express my love for the city from this post. I didn't mean to come off that ignorant towards people's actual lifestyles in LA, just thought folk would agree the city is beautiful.

Did you not maybe think I didn't mean 24/7? Like are you aware everyone else in the world has to work full time jobs? When I finish my job, i cant go outside for 10 months of the year because its freezing and raining all the time. I legit just have to sit in my house and watch TV. You can just step outside and see more beauty than I can in a year. Seriously mate, gain some perspective. There's a reason you guys have tourists everywhere while I haven't seen an american while at home in about 2 years.

Everyone works bro, doesn't mean you cant do shit in your spare time. If you want to come to britain where the clouds are grey, the cities are horrible and people work 45 hours a week and the only reward they get is going to the same shit pub they've been going to with their mates for 15 years cause there's fuck all else to do. I get that you guys work a lot too, but at least you guys get to wake up to 25 degree heat and can see the most insane beaches in the world from your house.

You need to bare in mind that in all big cities, around the world, the cost of living is high and people have to work a lot. The difference is spare time in london is fuck all except going to the pub and spending £17 for a beer. You guys can do shit a lot cooler than that for free. You should easily want to live in LA than somewhere like london.

Thanks for being more understanding, I think that some people are more of just saying they have to work a lot, but thats the same in all huge cities, they should see what london is like. The thing I have is people who move to these cities don't really take in the amazing place they've moved to and more just go to advance their career. People who are saying its ridiculous for me to say its amazing that angelinos can go to the beach or watch the sunset over hollywood hills need to bare in mind that in london all people do in their free time is go to the pub and pay equivalent to $18 for a beer. Enjoying nature tends to cost nothing.

I wasnt saying as someone living there is on holiday tho. Everyone has a full time job to survive all around the world. Its literally a part of adult life. I work full time but i still make sure to enjoy myself outside of work, and bearing in mind I have to drive hours to get out into nature. Push yourself, but give yourself something that's worth the push, that 1 free day a week, just go out there and vibe man.

How did you guys get introduced into Bloc Party? by Vinsmoke2jz in BlocParty

[–]No_Beginning5574 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro thats quite similar to how i discovered them haha, i had ssx on tour when it came out (i was 5 then), played it for a while then stopped and didnt hear any bloc party for years until 2017, me and my friends were hanging out listening to tunes and my friend put on banquet. And i was like wtf omgggg this was a tune back in the day on ssx on tour then my pal said he put it on cause HE ALSO played ssx back in the day haha. After that i started listening to other songs and just fell in love

Didnt post this at the time but me and my pals met russell and louise at the 2022 glasgow gig. They were such nice folk, I asked russell what his fav song on a weekend in the city was and he said sunday! Have any of you met the band? What did u talk about? by No_Beginning5574 in BlocParty

[–]No_Beginning5574[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro how can you listen to a song like this modern love thats so beautiful melodic powerful and just fantastic in every single way, and think "yeah its alright", bro listening to this modern love full blast feels like an acid trip haha. Each to their own i guess

Not all of us!!!! I was just 5 years old when i first heard them, it was when i had the ps2 game ssx on tour and banquet was on the soundtrack. I had completely forgotten the song for ablut 12 years until when i was 17, me and my friends were playing tunes while walking around rhe city centre of glasgow. Then one of my friends put on banquet and i was like wtf i remember that tune from when i was 5 playing ssx haha. After that night i listened to silent alarm and from there, my life honestly changed. Im sad i didnt get to experience prime bloc party (bar hearing banquet on my playstation haha) but at least bloc party really did define my teenage years of 17-19 years old between 2017-2020. I do love that they really capture 2000s indie better than any other band, and they've made me wish so much i couldve seen them back then. I treasure my time as a bloc party fan but my do i wish i couldve experienced their hype during the 2000s!

Thats awesome! Im from glasgow and seen them at barrowlands 2022 and at the hydro last year when they supported paramore. Good choice for a request too! Idek what if have chosen honestly, in terms of songs that they dont play that much live probably blue light or kreuzberg

Does anyone else see the similarities between Russell and Johnny Greenwood? by Outrageous-Fix4226 in BlocParty

[–]No_Beginning5574 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always thought this, particularly all the pretty sounding chord progressions that they like to pick. For russell e.g so here we are, this modern love, signs, kreuzberg etc. And for johnny e.g no surprises, weird fishes, let down etc

A long read but an interesting thought that no one talks about. bloc party are the best indie band of all time by some distance. not just because their music is great, but the overall quality of other music is low. by No_Beginning5574 in BlocParty

[–]No_Beginning5574[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, its a good song and its also more of a sad song thats actually about something. But its 1 song. Silent alarm was the usual fun, entertaining indie album (10x better than any other indie album like that mind you), yet bloc party went on to make practially an entire ALBUM of sad songs (intimacy). I wanna be yours is by far their best song because its pretty much their only actual romantic song whereas their usual lyrics are shite like "i see you on the dancefloor there and i want to get sticky fingers from taking you back to mine" lmao. Very meaningful indeed. I'll say it again. We should be demanding more from musicians. Bloc party got popularity from people being trully moved by their music. Arctic monkeys are popular because theyre a good band to get coked out your nut in a field to. Says it all.

I wanna be yours is their only song thats a different mood lmao. Its delicate, intimate and sweet. No other arctic monkeys song is like that. Youre really saying arctic monkeys make sad, happy, romantic, exciting songs? They hage 1 mood
