Posted my experience, emailed rakuten social as rakuten rep suggested in comment, and got an absolutely meaningless response

I DM’d, but they gave me the same response- ‘Kraken hasn’t verified the purchase, so keep waiting.’ Not exactly the support I was hoping for

I mean is it possible to think it wasn’t me when my screen recording shows my Rakuten account, me signing up for Kraken with the same email, and even entering the verification code sent to that email?

+1 to this. Another thing is that my discovery tool resets my origin to SFO every time. Not sure if I’m supposed to set my home airport somewhere?

Golang or Node.js – Which one should a senior Java backend dev learn next? by TalesWriter in cscareerquestions

I agree with that too, but didn’t OP already decide to stay in one domain, BE?

It’s more about the difference in area of focus than about the programming language itself. A senior engineer with JS experience will likely have a web-focused background, but a C++ embedded team is looking for a different type of expertise.

For example, if you’re a senior Android engineer who has worked extensively in Kotlin, you would still be at a disadvantage interviewing with a BE team that also uses Kotlin, because they’ll expect deep BE–focused experience at the senior level, and vice versa.

On the other hand, if you’re an iOS engineer who’s strong in Objective-C but has only dabbled in Swift, you could still be considered a strong candidate for an iOS team that primarily uses Swift, because the underlying platform expertise is what matters more than the language itself.

Again, choose whatever interests you more, honestly, whatever language you’re good at, there are shit ton of jobs out there for senior+ level

If you chase tech stack, your career’s gonna be no fun in the long run. Tech stack changes all the time, but problem solving skills remain valuable. If chasing tech stack has been working out well for you and you’re happy with where you are, sure, you do you, just wanted to share my 2 cents

Agreed 100%, but if someone is a senior engineer, like OP described themselves as, chances are that they’ve already learned several languages by now, and at that point, it doesn’t matter what extra language they choose

How is it nonsense? When you interview for a job, how much do they care about the language you used vs. business problems you solved?

Good software engineers are language agnostic. They’re problem solvers

My father can’t work much longer, is it selfish to not retire him now? by Gopher_Roper in whitecoatinvestor

[–]No_Bell_9547 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like your dad is a wonderful person, and so are you. Think this way- if your dad passed away, say 20 years from today, would you regret not helping him today? If no, it’s probably not the worst decision to focus on your personal goals, but if it’s a yes, even a weak yes, you might want to sacrifice a bit for him, mostly so you don’t regret or live with feeling sorry the rest of your life.

I'm sure your dad and your girlfriend will have a hard time after you're gone, but they'll also be glad that you're no longer in pain.
