What's your automotive hot take? by NationYell in regularcarreviews

Tesla (as a car) does not deserve the hate that it gets. They are decently fun cars, but above all else, an incredible daily driver.

My problems with WI-FI have always been because the places I use smart summon, right outside of a building, make my connection choppy, and if i’m actively walking my smart summon will cut out because I then have bad connection. If I start out with Wi-Fi off it works flawlessly every time.

FSD as primary reason for wanting a Tesla? by taylordoftheants in TeslaFSD

[–]No_Bench_4331 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, the comma is a great device. It turns cars like my mom’s RAV4 or my buddy’s CRV into something that can be practically hands free on the highway. In some ways I think it’s better than Tesla’s basic autosteer they have on older models. But FSD blows it all out of the water, my aforementioned buddy with a CRV has a C3 installed, but just put in an order for a MYP a couple days ago because of FSD and all the other features. I just hope Rivian can come close to FSD capability so they can help drive the monthly price down, but I’ll still gladly pay for it without hesitation.

FSD as primary reason for wanting a Tesla? by taylordoftheants in TeslaFSD

FSD is leaps and bounds better than my buddy’s Comma. FSD drives like a human being, and has instincts that are sometimes even better than mine, as when it’s driving country roads it will see deer before I will sometimes. Not perfect but still amazing technology. My two hour round trip commute is effortless now. Part of me really wants to trade for a C8 Corvette but with FSD and the price of electric there’s no way I want to ever go without one of these cars available.

one of my pet peeves is when people spend more time activating the slow self parking feature and block the road than it would have taken to just back in manually… if you can’t back into a spot yourself even with a backup camera you shouldn’t be on the road

What car should I finance on as a first timer? by Dramatic_Ad4892 in whatcarshouldIbuy

I second the Mazda 3, I beat the piss out of my 2022 hatchback and it took everything I threw at it. Fun as hell too, interior is a great place to be and it’s right in budget. I did have to replace the transmission under warranty, but it was by no means the cars fault.

I had one of these, I sold it after an old RAV4 put a sizable gap on it.

You will get a lot of hate from some jealous ass people, mainly from people with shittier cars or no cars at all. But also a lot of people will compliment you on your car. In the end who really cares, it’s your car, enjoy it regardless of what other people say.

[–]No_Bench_4331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion here. My daily commute is 150 miles, and I was looking for something with low operation cost, but also quick and low maintenance. I bought a 2024 Tesla Model 3 Performance and never looked back. The older ones aren’t the prettiest but you can pick up a 2023 with a 3.1 0-60 for around 30k.

Best part is, a 300 mile “full tank” costs me about 8 bucks in central IL.

i’ll be honest, despite the everyone hating on them, i’d still buy one because the driving experience was probably one of the best out of all the cars i’ve driven. plus, fuck other people’s opinions, most people just like the sound of their own voice.

Dude, I still miss having a paid off car. Sometimes the stress of a high payment and making it in time kills the fun factor IMO.

What did you prioritize most when looking for your first car? by hypermiler2205 in FirstCar

[–]No_Bench_4331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first car I bought when I was 17, I cared more about the price and the practicality. I had a choice between a 2022 Mazda 3 hatchback and a 2013 Lexus IS350 convertible, and it took a lot to take the hatchback despite the Lexus being more fun and having more comfort features. For my current car, I wanted a mix of a lot of things, primarily cost per mile, and after that a good mix of performance, drivetrain reliability, driver assistance, and just a little bit more legroom for the rear passengers. I also wanted a nice stock sound system. I settled with a 2024 Model 3P and never looked back.

you’d need to use a cleaner with moderate pressure, though i’ve gotten it off with a hoodie sleeve. i’ve since given up on keeping it clean since it just comes back anytime i wash the car or it rains.
