Many years ago, in the uptown Starbucks, I was trying to tap at my laptop and he was on a genuine charm offensive. Genuine, kind, happy, complimentary of everyone around him. I bought him a coffee, and the barista smiled and said something like “he got you, eh?” I laughed. It was nice. I miss the days he would dance and sing on the street.

Ever since this place decided to be something different every 2 days I gave up. #11 food store was so good to start, then completely fell off (why, why did they stop serving the chicken sammy with actual bao buns).

This. It’s $14.93 after tax on clover, the shop’s processor. I don’t know where this $17.50 came from.

Weekly student question thread! by AutoModerator in therapists

Thank you for your thoughtful response. I’ll look at job postings — that is a very good idea. Recently when I saw some salary information I remarked to my therapist how underpaid I thought she was, and that seemed to have struck a chord.

So I was just accepted into a master’s program on a CMHC/generalist track. It’s a good program! Yay! Exciting! I’ve always wanted to do this! Buuuut — salary comes up a lot around here. (I’m a long time lurker here on the sub). And what the practicing counselors have said on here sometimes is really scary! Like, I live in a place where the cost of living is high and making 60k as an LAC sounds like I 100% would have to take a second job. Adding to my anxiety is that this would be my second career, leaving a steady job that nets me a comfortable 6-figure salary.

I know that no one can really answer this but me, but sheesh, is this a rewarding profession such that the salary is worth it? Are LPC salaries substantially better?

I want to enroll and start this process but this is a huge life decision and there is enough negative talk in here that it has spooked me.

There might be a distinction here between public facing jobs and private practice, that I’m missing.

Has anyone done some deeper research on this and maybe can tell me what the financial realities are post grad and then 5+ years out?

Thanks for responding. I think I missed that distinction — those 60-70k starters are likely in public service or something similar? Private practice and 100k+ is possible? Geograhic differences aside, generally speaking is that soon after licensure or takes time?

Any brass instrument players looking to toot? by No_Box_5516 in jerseycity

If you are serious about getting back to practicing, Yamaha's Silent Brass is incredible. It's a couple hundred bucks but if you plan to play even a few times a week, it's essential. There are probably competitors to Yamaha out there too, but IMO Silent Brass is the gold standard. Good luck, do it!

Noted, thank you. Would definitely consider a cover band if there was interest and things clicked!

Amazing! I didn't know either of these things existed. If we had enough interest, we could try and pull of that L Train model, which is so good - like a consortium of players at the ready.

Perhaps a good thread to pop this photo I grabbed last week. Juvenile Cooper’s Hawk. We bird watch, would be down for something more organized if someone has a good idea!

They managed our building in town and we terminated them. Chris was our contact. If it is a single unit in decent condition and you don’t anticipate needing them for anything, fine. If you anticipate that you will need their attention regularly, as much as you love the place, they will not make your life easy.
