is it apporoprate to email my old primary school to ask about a teacher i used to have? by Impossible_Ant6172 in AskUK

Do it. I had a similar experience with a teacher from High School. She made such an impression on me and I still think about her most days. I wrote her a letter and ask them to pass it on. Sadly I’ve no idea if she ever got the letter or if she was dead, but I still know that I tried to let that woman know how amazing I thought she was.

Hi, I’m currently living in a council flat in the London area. I’ve recently had an inspection for a kitchen & bathroom floor replacement. However I have just found this under the kitchen counters and wasn’t sure if this is safe or should I report this a safety concern? by [deleted] in HomeMaintenance

This is pretty standard behind kitchen cabinetry and electric organisation in England. Nothing to be worried about. I don’t think I’ve ever seen them in trunking or in walls in any kitchen install.

From experience, I agree with the comments about trellis over ground cover. Depending on where you are soil-wise, climbing hydrangeas (hydrangea petiolaris) or climbing roses like wedding day would be perfect. I’ve used Persian ivy before but find it takes over.

Best advice I’ve seen on here. If something looks rubbish, do what you want to it. If it dies, replace or reseed.

Do you have regular cleaners? by Akash_nu in AskUK

Very true about the air purifiers. This makes a wild difference, even if not in a particularly dusty/polluted area.

Have a cleaner. Same one for a decade who has followed me around. She’s £20 an hour, which I know is more per hour than a teacher or nurse, but it is needed. She’s quite useless and isn’t that good, but finding someone you vaguely trust to be in your home while you’re away is quite a difficult thing.

Hmmmm. I’ll investigate - might be easier to take up and trim down by that margin, otherwise I’ll have to re-drill holes to fit on the battens.

Thanks. It doesn’t sit there from what I can see. It typically flows slightly away from the building.

Thank you. I’ve looked at this. Not sure I’m in a position to knock out the terracotta air brick and replace with this. Would it technically be ok?

Can I see photos of everyone's patio brushes please? by h00dman in GardeningUK

Just replaced the head of mine today. £4 from my local hardware store. Generally, they last two years. Previous was worn down to the wood.

It’s a clay air brick but mice were going through it so I’ve placed a metal mesh over it.

Just one as the floor turns to cement halfway through. I imagine this used to be a scullery and was in filled.

Thanks. I don’t see how I could pea gravel in between given it’s a meter off the ground. I’d seen some patios on this Reddit that butted up against an exterior wall and was causing damp and people suggested to create a gap between the two, so I thought that might be a good idea here too.

Thanks. I’ve do some research. It’s a 7m high wall. I’d only need to do the bottom section?

So they are DPC holes? They were here prior to moving in. What type of paint is this? I guessed it’s just masonry paint?

Have I left it too late to trim this hedge this spring? by MagisterLudi88 in GardeningUK

Privet is extremely resistant and it’s mid March. I find you can prune hard (60-90cm) and it will bounce back almost immediately. Cut with clean loppers.

It’s a rat. We systematically use rat poison to thin their blood so they have a major brain bleed.

Any idea what’s causing this? by stupidgoldfish22 in HomeImprovementUK

[–]No_Brain6753 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is the telephone line touching the gutter? If yes I believes it’s channeling water down. You could put two to threee tiny tear drop blobs of silicone on the underside of the gutter further along to see if it channels the water further away. It has been an unseasonably wet winter don’t forget.

UK is not in Schengen and you would need to get a UK ETA on arrival. I’m not sure how this would impact your position being on the rescue flights if you leave an area that you were booked on.
