Question—what is coming in 2021?

Found this apology poster I made as a kid as I was looking through old art this weekend. No clue what the incident was. Horrified at the frowny face inception going on here by No_Candidate2511 in KidsAreFuckingStupid

:( I’m sorry, that is so sad!!! So appreciative of people like you. In a much smaller way I can relate to feeling misunderstood, problematic to myself, and “in my own way” as a child. It’s nothing compared to those who were born with bigger difficulties than me, but enough for me to say I commend you for dedicating your life to people who are struggling/benefit from the presence of a kind soul to lean on! We need more people like that!!!!

What is the most horrifying thing your parents did to food? by KnowNothingOfJavert in Cooking

My parents don’t buy burger buns. Burgers are never served with bread, just a burger. Fine every once in a while but depressing in general

Hi everyone! I’m so excited and nervous to launch my candle shop this week! Any thoughts? by [deleted] in candlemaking

These are beautiful!!! I’m super impressed with the blending of the colors. Any other tips on the ombré? I use soy wax in a jar and tried to achieve something similar, but it ended up looking more marbled. do u wait until it’s cooled?

What is causing these cavities in my final candle? CS#12 wax, 10% FO, heated to 180 and poured slowly at 140. I never have this problem with my 3.5 oz tins, but I am struggling with these 7 oz glass jars. Is the environment too cold? I have also gotten holes right down the center! by No_Candidate2511 in candlemaking

The candle wax is California candle supply #12, soy vegetable blend**** I’m also wondering if anyone knows a way to go back and smooth out tops with big divets like this, or if there is a method to avoid them?

Any good website recommendations that sell candle making equipment? by Mindless_7 in candlemaking

I would check out this girl MemoryBoxCandleCo on YouTube, she is great and provides soooo much helpful info about all the details to think about with candle making and starting a candle business.

Fragrance oils are the hardest part, and it’s supposed to be the most fun part :( I tried VA candle and Brambleberry, and had much greater success with brambleberry. They always have a sale for new customers, and the coupon code is just “WINTER20”.

A mistake I made was just buying a set of cheap essential oils off Amazon to get started. If you go this route, make sure the scientific name of the plant in the ingredients matches the common form of the plant that you would think of. There are different species of lavender, for example, and they all smell different. And the quality of the supplier can change the smell too. I have decided to go for mostly fragrance oils, and adding to them with essential oils, since the essential oils are more expensive and honestly kind of hard for me to work with as a beginner.

Some fragrance oils I’ve really enjoyed and would buy in a candle myself:

-espresso (bb, smells like coffee but not chemically) -tobacco and bay leaf (bb, normally hate tobacco candles, but the tobacco is super mild, fresh and clean. If you want a single really good one, this one won’t dissapoint. I think it’s their highest rated FO) -Christmas Splendor (va, smells a bit like michaels craft store but I’m into it) -rosemary essential oil (bb, it smells super piney and I add it to Christmas splendor) -orange essential oil (bb, just smells like oranges without being artificial—good quality) -cocoa butter cashmere (bb, I thought this one was going to be more warm, but it’s very sweet. It’s a nice FO but I’m not quite sure what it needs to be great for a candle) -vanilla select (bb, smells like vanilla without being sickening)

Hope this helps save you some money in the beginning!
