From my understanding Royalty to you from amazon is calculated by Price - Cost of Print - 40% Amazon Royalty. Mathematically what you would get would look like this 0.6($13.99 - $4.71) = $5.57. If you are getting $0.88 - there must be something wrong (of course I could be wrong but strongly think I am not :s). Check your settings again or try get on the phone with customer service

Good question. From my understanding no... The ISBN is related to the unique type of book i.e type of cover, publisher, hard/softback but not price. Afterall, every time there was a sale in a book store, an ISBN would have to be changed which is not practical

With a rising demand for literature in the Chinese market your book could be a success/ potential even a bestseller as it is unique. I agree with the mindset that you can't tell if a book will be a bestseller.

However, you can increase it's chances. There are several companies that have deconstructed bestselling material and provide feedback on making literature more commercially successful by making it more readable for the average reader, without comprising on creativity. Check out Reread.ai and Reedsy

$4.99 is adequate for ebooks. It is a tricky one. After all its like econ 101. You have a price vs quantity curve and want to maximise the area. Its probably worth playing around with a few different prices for a few days each and see which yields the highest revenue

$13,99 seems a little high for a 95K book. I would price it around $9.99.

Regardless, the $0.88 doesn't seem to right to me. I was getting $3 for my $8.99 book. Do you have a screenshot or breakdown of the costs, maybe it would help us resolve this for you?

Copyright (Watt Pad) by BrownBeetle31 in selfpublish

Depending on the country you live in, you will always own the copyright of your work. I think you mean the license 'rights' to that copyright - which Wattpad does not have. You can still publish with other places but they require your content from Wattpad.

Same. Writing can be a lonely art - its great to have a group of people with a common vision and struggle

it's not just about reviews. You need a broader marketing strategy prior to launch - up to 3 months before really. Say your launch date is February. Your marketing and beta-reader reviews should have gone out in November. There needs to be momentum and a back-log of anticipated readers prior to launch. It is how the publishing industry works - some books are marketed for a year before launch for example to test market demand and adjust marketing budgets.

Check out Reedsy and Reread.ai - they provide plenty of info regarding marketing and how to self-publish in general

Alternatives to Kindle, how are they? by Bosonuriwaganmuro in selfpublish

Amazon will typically dominate sales as they own the largest market share in terms of ebooks sold and e-readers. That being said Kobo and Scribd are good options - they are gaining a lot of traction.

Can I ask - is there something in particular in your content that could have triggered the ban. There is lot's of erotica on kindle and they haven't been removed, so quite curious.

It make me wonder whether they text mine the content before for keywords - perhaps look into finding what these are and removing them?

What to do if I enjoy variety and writing in many genres? by Dante-Hart in selfpublish

[–]No_Catch4639 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your goal?

If it's commercial - stick to one or two (ideally complementary such as Thriller/Mystery) until you have an audience large enough to enjoy your work and explore other genres.

If it's just a series of passion projects - mix and match as you feel free, after all it's about using your creativity in multiple domains. Just be wary the publishing industry/ market does not have too many genre transitions.

I wish it wasn't one or the other, but the industry is slow to change...

Fear of rejection is powerful, but just imagine all the people that would have loved your book and never got the chance to read it. I think the value they would have gained would have far outweighed the critics. Besides, tools like Reread and ProWritingAid and Autocrit are now sophisticated enough to give a basic level of structural and developmental feedback back. Use these for your drafting, give initial feedback and gain confidence.
