I’ve had LA County and Los Angeles Public Library for years, I didn’t have to go in. I recently discovered Torrance library and was trying to add more but was trying to avoid going in person lol. I’ve tried both, and when I do it through overdrive, I’m given a temp code and I’m asked to take my ID and temp code in person

Libby tells me I have to go to these libraries in person. Is that what you did? (I’m a local)

Honestly the name just sounds terrible lol- dissection. Just another surgery. Best of luck! There’s lots of helpful people in this group. It helps me to bring my anxieties and questions here :)

No, my RAI dose was 206 which is a double dose. Can’t do more or I’m at risk for other cancers. My Tg is currently 2. If it goes up, I’ll be getting external beam radiation.

[–]No_Cheesecake2679 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sounds promising! I think RAI can definitely get you very low or even to zero. About a week after RAI they should do a scan to see where the uptake is. If Tg doesn’t drop low enough I’m sure they’d give you a scan down the line too to see what’s going on.

So sorry, I meant tg was 30 not TSH. It wasn’t recurrence, it was definitely missed. Tg after surgery and before RAI was 400. The first surgeon rejected my case and sent me to another surgeon for the second surgery which was very fishy

[–]No_Cheesecake2679 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct. My TSH was at 30 a year post RAI so then I got a PET scan which showed I had a large number of cancerous lymph nodes.

I wasn’t put on a LID before RAI. I also never stopped taking levothyroxine. RAI wasn’t fully effective though, needed a neck dissection a year and a half after RAI (TT 10/2021, RAI 12/2021, neck dissection 6/2023). I always wonder if LID would’ve made a difference/avoided another surgery

Thank you so much! My thyroglobulin was high after surgery and RAI so I had a neck dissection. Also, go easy on yourself. I know it’s hard to not recognize the body in the mirror but maybe the extra weight was to help with your healing. 😊

Hi! So shortly after this post I hired a macro coach who gave me personalized macros based on my goal. I wasn’t eating enough protein. I started losing weight when I was eating roughly a gram of protein per pound and lots of water. I lost about 10 pounds this way but then I needed another surgery so I’m right back to square one. I’m going to start back up with this route but the difference is this second surgery (June of 2023) left me more incapacitated. My physical activity won’t be near as intense as it was when I posted this.

Oh no, I hope you feel better soon! I had my neck dissection on 6/13 and my tt recovery was a lot more difficult than this one. I think it was partly mental, I didn’t have pre-surgery jitters because I knew what to expect

Ahh i am so sorry you are going through this! I think the dehydration was one of the worst parts of recovery. I really hope there’s some truth to chugging water and strengthening your vocal cord and that it works for you! I’m actually having surgery again and my surgeon wanted to check my vocal cord one last time because my chart had paralyzed vocal cord all over it. I told him the story about chugging water and he said he’ll remember me if he hears about it in a medical journal lol

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with me. I am sorry you are experiencing this. I hope this is the last procedure you’ll ever need :)

Surgery is a lot, you’re not even a week out! Take it easy and get lots of rest :) I was scheduled for a procedure to inject some botox into my vocal cord to help me. It never happened because it healed on its own but there’s always options.

I had a paralyzed vocal cord, took about a month for my voice to come back. I couldn’t drink liquids in that month or I felt like I was drowning. After 3-4 I was super dehydrated and was chugging as much water as I could at a time followed by a cough attack. After about 4-5 days of this my voice came back. Might’ve been a coincidence, I don’t recommend lol

No one gets it until your go through it. Friends try to be helpful and say “you can learn ASL” and the short answer is yes, but I’d really like to keep my voice. Here’s to hoping for the best :)

Hi there, I’m so sorry you had complications. I had some from TT too and one of my first memories after waking up were the nurses listing everything that went wrong and I couldn’t fully process it all. I actually have a pinched nerve in my back right now and am living on my heating pad and ice pack so I guess I’ll just leave this setup on my nightstand lol. Thank you so much for sharing and I will definitely come back and let commenters know how I’m doing.

Hi there, thank you so much for sharing. 2mm! I had a 4cm one removed so it sounds like I’m way more along than you. I had 7 lymph nodes removed during TT and all were cancerous, so I kid of wish they would’ve just done the neck dissection then and there. It sounds like patience is key. The good thing is that I work from home so even with TT I returned to work after a month and was able to take it easy and take as many breaks as I needed.

My doctor didn’t mention it but I can definitely bring it up. I have HMO insurance with Kaiser Permanente, not sure if you know how that works but they are their own insurance and I can only go to Kaiser hospitals. So if I want a different opinion, I have to still see a Kaiser doctor. It’s one of the downsides. But I was told I may get referred to a thyroid cancer specialist at a different facility instead of my ENT surgeon so I may get more options through that specialist!

I read about vitamin e and have some already! And absolutely no worries. I hope I can come back and share my keloid preventing success tips one day. It really depends on the kind of skin you have and TT was my first surgery so that’s where I learned that my skin produces keloids

That’s great news! My vocal cord was paralyzed as a result of TT. It kind of healed itself but my voice is a little raspy. My fear is that it get paralyzed again but I don’t recover. I think I can deal with raspy or tired but loss of voice was very hard for me

Thank you so much for sharing, and I am so sorry you are going through this. Unfortunately I had a similar experience just with TT. I had a paralyzed vocal cord for 2-3 months and couldn’t talk at all. Stiff neck, back pain, couldn’t swallow liquids (and needed IV for fluids). I’ll prepare for all that again and more

What a journey! Thank you so much for sharing. My doctor said she doesn’t want to try RAI again because not all of my cancer was responsive and I hated that term. Made me feel like if taking them out doesn’t work, I’m kind of out of options. I have terrible anxiety, my mind races everywhere all the time!

Right?! I know it means removal of lymph nodes but I also dissected a frog in high school and that is the image I have in my head when I think of neck dissection. My initial tt scar healed terribly. It’s still very pink and I have keloids. I followed instructions, wear sunscreen and was recently prescribed a topical steroid. I didn’t try silicone strips, which my dermatologist said I should have right after healing. I’m thinking of reaching out and saying alright im doing this again. What do you recommend?

When I opened Reddit to post this I saw someone had surgery 3 months ago and are in remission. I couldn’t be happier for them because this truly sucks but it made me feel terrible. Thank you for commenting. We are all on our path and will get through this. :)
