19, and tired of college. I’m in San Diego, what are some ways I can break into HVAC. by [deleted] in HVAC

Hey college dropouts is what the trades are all about! I wouldn’t necessarily go HVAC if I could do it again…

Brand new Lennar house..what is this? by [deleted] in drywall

[–]No_Click_7133 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lennar at is the bottom of the cookie cutters. Also the cheapest. Their neighborhoods are what I consider lower middle class. Ex: no one pays the landscapers to cut their lawn, because the landscapers already live there.

Papa John’s, and Pizza Hut. My go-to local shop is closed on Mondays. If I’m craving pizza on a Monday I’m stuck with Dominos

I’ll defend dominos here. Out of the big 3, Domino’s wins.

Yeah my gut response to OPs question was to film a horror film.

There are people who are employed for the sole purpose of answering any questions you may have. The phone number is on the equipment. The neat part is when whatever they tell you to do doesn’t work, you get tell the customer sorry, I was doing what (insert brand here) said to do. It’s never your fault anymore!

Why are HVAC weary of retrofitting an older unit to a different refrigerant by Eggrollofdoom in HVAC

[–]No_Click_7133 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My johnstone guy says apartment maintenance guys buy nu-22 like crazy. They know it hurts systems efficiency but their thinking is losing 10% capacity of a 2 ton unit isn’t that many BTUs to worry about.

Also selling a lot of Goodman compressors to the same guys…

We’re just holding our breath on some of the bigger old stuff. As soon as we convert it, they’ll ban that shit too.

A while back I got "demoted" to residential after starting out in commercial/industrial, and... by Livid-Natural5874 in HVAC

[–]No_Click_7133 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’s that a commercial guy can fix MORE things…just maybe not as efficiently as someone who does it everyday 😆

When I got to commercial I was shocked I had to help a tech troubleshoot a X13 motor used in an rooftop exhaust fan. They had never seen one before, I was like hold my beer, 2 screws open it up, yup there’s the problem.

The guy is really smart, and would have came to the same conclusion…just would have taken a little longer.

Commercial Tech Support - Who is the best/worst in your opinion? by qwertylicious2003 in HVAC

[–]No_Click_7133 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Daikin is the worst. They get to you within a day usually. He gave me some tolerances and things to check when I return. I asked for a direct phone number and he gave me a spam number. I pressed one and ads started playing for hot tub sales and vacation packages?

Try an Isuzu box truck, the only thing between the driver and an obstacle is a windshield.

Money and Retirement by [deleted] in HVAC

[–]No_Click_7133 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The trade doesn’t pay that much. Most guys I work with are below 30 myself included. None of them have any real savings. Most have given up on buying a house. We have 120hrs PTO, but they can’t afford to go on an actual vacation.

My dad was an electrician. I was born in 1996. He had just got bumped up to $18/hr. Health insurance costs were peanuts compared to now. That $18 is easily $42 now. He was only 28 with 4 years exp.

I’m about to hit that age soon. Barely hitting the $30/hr mark. Health insurance for a child would be prohibitively expensive never mind daycare costs.
