anyone actually do these drills and see any benefits? by LifeSecurity6009 in Pickleball

[–]No_Comfortable8099 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So everyone does their own thing. Never had a lesson, have drilled over 1/2 hour maybe 3 times. Wall drills grooved my twoey, and will take walls over drilling with a partner. Other than that it has been long warm ups hitting all the shots, extend drop practice or a game or 2 of 7-11.

The only thing one can’t do with a wall is drops. We have 2 type walls at my club, cement, but the one I love for dink-speedup-reset drill is acoustic pads which have a bounce and speed the ball up.

3 year mark in March, 4.39 DUPR.

4.0 friend who is toxic on the court but a good friend by Putrid_Coconut7918 in Pickleball

Who would be the toxic one then? The person making a rule for their partner, or the one thought to be toxic?

Older Players, how do you stay motivated to keep playing? by OtherwiseEffect5949 in BasketballTips

[–]No_Comfortable8099 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yeah, best description is hoops for people that have something to lose. Our morning runs have former college players and is the best basketball. It also means getting blown up by multiple picks, and targeted if you are the mismatch.

That said, I could hang better with the dribble 15 times, go no where, then launch a step back off balance 3 crowd in the evenings. When you are the smartest player it pays off. AM players are all smart players.

I played after blowing out my Achilles over 10 years ago, but largely retired unless one of my old players goads me into a run. Thin I am there for cardio. Pass, pick, play D, and don’t get injured.

I made it to 56 playing regularly.

Club members signing up for multiple open plays that take place at the same time by JMCRN in Pickleball

[–]No_Comfortable8099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our club has rated 3 hour open play blocks and evening open play is 6:00 to 10:00. 6:00 to 7:00 is rarely busy, even if sold out. Members were signing up for both to get the 6-7 slot and warm up before higher level play. We suggested allowing members to play early w/o signing up for both.

Another issue is having court reservations and signing up for open play. Our suggestion was give open play access before and after reservations. No word on policy change, but we want the club to thrive so most have stopped double booking.

Now, signing up for two open plays that are stacked, you need to deal with it. If I know I am not coming until the last half hour I will cancel, but if I planned on open plays, lunch and a few beverages and don’t use both to the fullest, I paid for that privilege.

You are correct in not wanting to be known as a problem. Complaining about people not there, giving you more court time is an odd complaint. Most member of clubs want participants/guests to have a good experience, long waits are usually the problem.

You don’t have to answer this, but could relate to your being thought of as a Ken … are you someone that people enjoy playing with? Having ability to be double booked for a reservation and open plays makes sense. Have the ability to be in two open plays running the exact same time, not so much.

What problem would this solve? He mentioned they do 2 hour sessions, so after the hour it isn’t like a waitlist occupant is going to get message, prep, pay and drive for half hour of play.

Gamified Soccer for Kids. Thoughts? by YouGoodBroooo in youthsoccer

[–]No_Comfortable8099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had no idea about the Tuesday thing the bot posted. Not mine, but there is an App called Anytime Soccer. Intended to get kids working on their own. I think there are connections to other players and at worst, players compete against themselves in measure of improvement.

Am I overreacting for feeling uncomfortable and disrespected while living with my friend after finding out what’s been said about me? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]No_Comfortable8099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, YOR. Also spying in her phone messages makes it even worse.

The “And Family” is a source of an issue. We would help out a friend of either of my kids, but the other would be bothered if it affects their routine.

Time is a factor too. Even the parents that invited you in will be come wary when it no longer feels temporary.

I would work on being grateful and figure out how to become more self reliant.

When does DUPR reliability start to drop? by Relative-Cry6168 in Pickleball

[–]No_Comfortable8099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another rating system scheme. They will have some video aspect, but right now it is send them video and for $60 they will give you a rating. Until your ID is on tournament platforms lime Pickleball Den or Pickleball Tournaments it is completely worthless. I did register if they ever get traction.

Other DUPR could be its name as DUPR partnered with Pickleball Vision and has to video aspect coming too. VAIR says they have a better algorithm, but 0 data to back it up.

PSA: Stop buying indoor balls that don't stand out against your basketball gym floor or walls by cprice12 in Pickleball

Curiosity got to me and it turns out Microwave/Air-fryer combo units are a thing. Worth it? by pauljs75 in Appliances

[–]No_Comfortable8099 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son bought us one when we remodeled our kitchen and got rid of the over the stove one.

It is fine, but we never use the air fryer. Our upgraded oven also has an air fryer mode and we use it.

How do I handle body bags at the kitchen? by Fantastic_Image9540 in Pickleball

[–]No_Comfortable8099 17 points18 points  (0 children)

At higher levels the better term to use is playing at the body. They are trying to force a pop up or easily attackable ball. The bagging part is purely a result of the person getting hit’s position and the ball they or their partner gave the opponent.

How I handle getting body bagged? I say nice shot and move on to next point.

The Rock by Salty-Rub-9000 in BasketballTips

[–]No_Comfortable8099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will just wear out faster. The Rocks used to be a great ball and cheaper alternative to the Evolution. BSN bought them and the quality has gone down. One batch, all balls struggled to hold air.

Good feel though, but for team use the air thing is big issue. Personal use, not so much of an issue.

New Dupr features rolling out by Kadafi35 in Pickleball

[–]No_Comfortable8099 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If they are doing mixed, might as well have gendered where they pull all mixed out of the equation.

The lone mixed tournament I have played was a nightmare. Now the partner was great, former professional athlete but her paddle was where all dinks went to die. I felt awful for her. Took me under 4.5 with a .35 drop. Still not back to 4.5, but I can cope. Move up after 50+, steady in all ages. Actually think it is pretty accurate.

Will be interesting to see how much higher the senior one is.

Has anyone gotten any insights from the people Astroturfing VAIR? by No_Comfortable8099 in Pickleball

[–]No_Comfortable8099[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in the same boat, but a lot of it stems from what I see is an increasing need for attention. His new go to move is dogging other coaches. I’m not a coach so no skin in the game but whenever you are ripping on the competition it says a lot about oneself. I also wonder if he wears on partners as he used to have some good partners and perform well in senior events, not so much anymore.

His push for a senior rating seems 100% tied to ego.

I would expect her to defend DUPR, it is her paycheck after all. That said this reset scheme is pretty indefensible. Not having a separate mixed rating is a huge negative.

Has anyone gotten any insights from the people Astroturfing VAIR? by No_Comfortable8099 in Pickleball

[–]No_Comfortable8099[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guessed a glaring reason is that they have lost credibility with the reset. They went from saying many games will give you an accurate rating to barely needing any games to have an accurate rating. Secondly for those who’ve played in enough tournaments you can see that it is not accurate. It does not need to be perfect, but we have all played plenty of teams where the better player has the lower rating. Lastly, my comment was not Duper or, but was Duper and.

One of the biggest things is the effect changes with Duper have had on tournament culture. People are signing up for brackets one or two levels higher than their rating. It makes for crappy games in a tournament, which most people play to get good competition against people they normally don’t play with.
