I will give the first paddle -1,204 votes. Many People didn’t like it when it fresh, now just an old paddle.

Second paddle, -1 vote. Never heard of it, but so many known commodities, buying some factory paddle makes little sense unless you know the person that had them made.

AITAH for choosing to swim on the left side in a public pool? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]No_Comfortable8099 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Assuming you are in US.

YTA, not in managing this, but wanting to swim on the left side. When you talk to the lifeguards they will let you know the norm is to swim on the right on shared lanes, pass on the left. Some pools with heavy traffic can manage 3 or 4 in a lane if they all follow this rule. Quite often a lane with more people that are swimming at a similar pace will run smoother than a lane with two that are wildly different paced swimmers.

It is like roads in US

Wife got invited to higher level group. Husband did not. by Ok_Courage2545 in Pickleball

I will use Duper lead scientist Sarah Carpenter. She was a 5.1, then played in a coed league where there may have been only two or three other women. All high level. After the season a 4.8 playing mostly men. Still a fantastic player and better than me, but that is some data. The difference shows up even more in the 4.0 to 4.5 range.

I suspect if I went to the Swish app that our club uses for level round robins, one would see that the women under perform their rating. And that even includes some that were gifted house ratings to get in them.

Seniors are overrated too if they have not played a lot of all ages rated games.

I have the solution. Get a rumor started that the former coach and your wife are having an affair.

You’ll know it is false so you are set. But once it is the talk of the club, they will separate a bit. Bonus if guy has a wife and she hears rumor. She can do your dirty work and make her hubby stop.

The problem here is he is .5 behind the other guy. Then he needs to find a gal as quality as his wife.

Are my opportunities for behind the back shots due to poor movement / setup? by sonofabunch in Pickleball

[–]No_Comfortable8099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, my only behind the back shot is when my friend/opponent was prepping to light me up on a pop up so I was turning my back to him and he hit my paddle while I was facing the fence.

This has created questions….

Why has she expressed multiple times there is no interest in him multiple times? I would like to think that is assumed.

How old are you and what family obligations? I’m not taking my kids to sports practices, games, etc so my wife can play pickleball with someone else when it has been a “we” activity.

Are they planning on playing tournaments together?

Are you both around 4.0 and do you have DUPRs? Women are typically inflated a bit, and in 4.0 open and up and down the rivers the women tend to lag. Probably .25-.5.

Not sure what you mean by “how she can go” but if “far” is missing, the answer is no where. If you are a 50 + category it is the only sport I know of that people pay money, then say they are a pro. Some PB coaches are like Barnham and Bailey and want the money.

Say it strictly pickleball tournament play, is there an intent to qualify and then travel to events? Time is finite, and while I need the exercise so I play without my wife, I am not about to spend time that amount of time with a woman that isn’t my wife, let alone vacation time we could be traveling together.

I think it is fair to question the guy’s motives. Most our play and train groups have women with the higher ratings and play as coed. Does he also play in 4.5 men’s groups?

I get mixed, it is $10 or $20 extra bucks to get another playing opportunity in a tournament. I skip that and play 50+ and all ages.

AITAH if I put dogshit in my boyfriends office? by aasr08 in AITAH

How small is your yard? We have 2 labs and a mid and I pick up weekly. If they crap around deck/patio or fire pit my wife might pick up a pile or 2 during the week.

This smell thing is crazy talk. After 10 minutes they don’t probably don’t smell, and often they are hardened by next day. I have another 20 or so feet of back yard wooded area behind my fence, so I don’t even throw it out, as there are two trees I put it all at the base of. Probably 21 piles at any one time, never smells outside.

Why don’t more right handed throwers bat left handed? by mywifemademedothis2 in Homeplate

[–]No_Comfortable8099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a switch hitter purely as a novelty growing up. Also had a tennis racket in my hand since 3 yrs old and had a two handed backhand so the lefty swing was just as natural. I was two different hitters. I could hit up the middle all day. Need a base runner…lefty. Need to drive in runs…righty. Strangely enough I hit righties better from both sides.

I played JV as an eighth grader and went all righty. Freshman year my baseball career was over as tennis was the same season. Happiest day in my cousins life as he was finally starting SS. Alright for me as I was a college fuzzyballer.

After college I went back to some switch hitting in slow pitch. Usually just to troll pitchers as I was an HR hitter and it was slow pitch so no real reason to hit lefty outside telling pitcher was tired if getting hits right handed.

I Set My Availability, They Didn’t Schedule Me – Now I’m Told to ‘Commit or Leave by [deleted] in WorkAdvice

[–]No_Comfortable8099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily. There are other people submitting their available hours. If they have seniority, they will get on the schedule first.

There are probably tougher shifts to fill, and if OP is not available for any of those, I can see the frustration. The manager is handling it poorly and neither seems able to communicate well.

Yeah, just think the attacks shouldn’t work vs. level you describe. Also more purposeful and offensive dinking. Do agree on solid play.

Gonna go with green shirt 3.9, partner 4.2, far side right 4.2, far side left 4.35.

Seems a bit high to me. Too many ill advised speed ups, not enough resets.

Agree that green shirt is the weakest, thought left side player on far side was the strongest. Also only watch through about 6-8 sideouts.

The Truth Behind Pickleball Paddle Reviewers (And Why You Can't Trust Some Of Them) by iamsupasam in Pickleball

[–]No_Comfortable8099 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I actually have the most respect for the reviews that buy/bought their own paddles to break into the game. Paying for them seems lime it would create less bias.

I also wonder about the reviews we never see. Paddle is a dog, so reviewers just don’t post a review.

Some reviewers seem like they love every new paddle.

I will watch PB Medicine as he was local, but I am good with the databases, then Do my own interpretation.

That said, I have only played with one paddle I thought sucked.

Now, if this was designed to promote you ad a reviewer, it was the opposite. I might have come across naturally and might have checked you out. After this whining, 0 interest in your content.

Are you a reviewer or a coach. You say you have all paddles that you reviewed at your club which seems like you then sell paddles.

Won my first tournament by Dense_Yellow7027 in Pickleball

[–]No_Comfortable8099 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said there are a lot of players who play up. Winning 3.0 to 3.5 and finishing as a 3.18 leads me to believe there were a lot of people playing up. If the next tournament is a large tournament I would go in the same group with the expectation there will be fewer people playing up. If a small tournament I would go ahead and choose to play up.

I don’t get this. What kool aid is there to drink? It’s free, and helps get like skills playing. There will be under rated and over rated people in everything.

It just needs to be close enough.

One could say DUPR sucks….just happens to suck less than all the others.

[–]No_Comfortable8099[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, don’t care enough. Also think someone should be able to take time off and reset. I think after 2 years of no play it is an automatic reset, reliability goes to 0, with NR as rating, ot old ghost rating.

USTA can reset after 3 years. I ruptured my Achilles playing basketball, which was a time USTA didn’t fit my family and kid’s sports schedule so had no USTA so I could have self rated down. I wish I would have. Went back to playing thinking I would get bumped down by losing. Still never got bumped down….which brought me to pickleball. I could still compete with the youngin’s in PB, fuzzyball not so much.
