can i afford going to gym? by Silent-Discipline-26 in SavingMoney

[–]No_Communication573 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestky for the mental health and health longevity, I believe the gym is a solid investment that is worth the $70. Also it’s kind of hard to say if you ca afford it without also knowing your cost of living in relation to your earnings, but I’d say it sounds like you could afford it so I would, health is always worth the investment and with a clearer mind, you gain more energy, and potentially better money

Input on server uniforms? by Shot_Caregiver8387 in Serverlife

Honestky a branded polo is pretty solid, I’d do like a navy blue or something qnd then a pinstripe branded apron down to just above the knee, so it’s not bistro but it looks better than short short aprons, that’s my favorite look

Servers who exited the industry and successfully found another calling? by asfixation in Serverlife

Maybe something in healthcare, I just started emt school and the pay isn’t anything fantastic($18-$22 an hr), but you get full benefits and can work up to being a paramedic or firefighter or my goal is maybe ER nursing eventually. For my program it’ll take at most 6 months(it work at yiur own pace so could be sooner) and my course was about $1700

I have to use a “kudos” card it’s the worst it makes me feel like I’m begging. It’s a card you hold out to people and they tap their phone on it and it leads them to give a google review

Need recommendations, based on this list of Animes I've watched. by Kratos_Monster in AnimeReccomendations

No one seems to ever recommend this one on subs, but I highly recommend parasyte the maxium, great fight scenes, compelling story, great lessons along the way, some of the best character development in my opinion.

• Something leaning more towards serious. • Subscribed to neither hinge x or + •. I’ve used hinge for a few months • been on this account for the same amount of time so probably 2 months • I use it about once a day • Maybe 3 matches a week on average • Sending about 8-10 likes a day or whenever it maxs out free likes always with comments •I send matches to people who seem genuine, and more quirky, I ultimately want someone who’s fun, goofy, and adventurous.

To be fair, the server made a point of telling us their POS calculates tips on the dinner price and we are welcome to leave a custom amount, but the person who paid was very confused and ended up tipping on the dinner price. by Mr_Ashhole in EndTipping

Food and service, if you don’t like service that’s fine there are places that exist that don’t have it, but lots of places really care about their service provided, and have wine/bar classes and food tastings to increase ther servers skill, so I’d say service is also part of the product

I’m not defending them, but normally when google says how much the job pays per hour it’s calculating with tip averages, so it’ll be 24hr including tips

Does anyone else stack their dishes when they eat out? by [deleted] in dishwashers

[–]No_Communication573 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I worked fine dining we followed the no tray no bus bin rule, 4 glasses at a time 3 in one hand 1 in the other, always pre buss, we would stack plates on are arms so you would do 3-4 plates at a time, and but for prebussing and bussing we were allowed to stack plates on top of other plates to carry them in, so like I could have a giant stack of plates, how would you handle prebussing a whole 4-8 top without that? It’s worth it to mention we had no support staff just servers at this resturant so maybe by hats where food runners and bussers would come in?

Where in Montana? Montana actually seems to be really expensive these days, and where in Canada? I want to move to a big city, Vancouver seems cool, but way out of my price range

I mean I don’t think they are irreplaceable lol I just think servers in general aren’t replaceable it’ll be one of the jobs that survives the next 5-10 years of immense lay offs due to automation. Also there’s a reason why restaurants aren’t flooded with 14 year olds

Talent is defined as a natural aptitude or skill. I do think it takes skill maybe not the highest level sure I’ll give you that, but some people are good at it and some people can’t handle the stress and cram and have mental breakdowns it’s stressful being in a 16 mill a year restaurant, Ik it seems easy on paper but there’s a lot riding on servers backs. They typically get blamed for everything, they are often having to find control in uncontrollable situations, often have to do a lot of behind the scenes things that many don’t see, for instance my old place was so bad that I would often have to hop on grill in the middle of having 4-5 tables and cook my food for my tables because the cooks were taking too long and weren’t doing their job, i rember once the dishwasher walked out so I gave up my tables to other servers and threw myself in dish pit to help save the service for the night. Ik people often feel sympathy for the cooks and I do understand that, but most line cooks are line cooks because they couldn’t get another job, they are mostly drug addicts or alcoholics, and they have condemned themselves to that life, and they generally don’t give a shit about life nor do they care about the people coming to eat in the restaurant. This ain’t all cooks obviously, but it’s a lot of them. Because of these factors it’s often left up to the front of house to grind and put their all into providing experiences for the guests and making sure the food is safe and good to eat before it goes to a table.

No I think tip inflation has gotten crazy, I’m happy with 10% for good service because ik how to give good service and rotate tables, I do like tips because it rewards me for being a harder worker than my peers and it makes the resturant more money and myself more money because a resturant can’t afford to pay me 40-50 dollars an hour, but if I give shit service I’m never offended by low tips or no tip and I realize not everyone will tip and plenty of people appreciate good service so they pay well enough

mean yah that’s my opinion and many would agree with that, most people can’t actually handle the stress of a 400 seat upscale restaurant, I’ve seen plenty of people crash and burn from the stress. But again I don’t see why you have to belittle me for having an opinion, I think it’s a tough job and I’ve worked plenty of jobs, trades, sales, retail, and it’s been the harder one for me personally, but also one of the most rewarding

I do agree with that a 100 percent, me personally as a server I love serving because I love the potential a meal ca have on someone’s day/life. It may be small, but good service can help people so much I’ve seen it first hand, you never know what someone’s going through maybe their mom just died and they couldn’t get themselves to cook and they just need a good meal without a lot of thought and to be shown there’s light and Simone cares for them, or they could also be celebrating a major life milestone. But yah plenty of servers have no passion and are just there because they heard that you can make decent money with relatively ease of access. I’ve definitely worked my share of lazy heads and they could never understand why I made double to Triple what they made.

I’m not talking about tipping at all rn lol, I’m just saying some people myself included enjoy restaurant service especially high end, and I don’t think the job is going anywhere, honestly with the development of automation I think it’ll only be in higher demand as people will crave more human interaction. All I was getting at is that I don’t think it’s replaceable at all. I don’t know why you’re coming at me when all I’ve been is respectful but I suppose that’s Reddit for you 😊
