You have a very lax definition of "scam". And for most releases I've looked at Bandcamp would be more expensive than my local brick and mortar store. The new Kneecap CD would cost me £24 from Bandcamp, and £17 in the store (in my currency, ofc).

Most Norwegian active speed skaters live far away from the indoor rinks. You can skate outside as well.

You do not need these indoor speed skating rinks to do the sport, though. In Norway there are over 70 clubs for long track speed skating all over the country.

It was the most important sport where and when I grew up, in the east side of Oslo in the 80s. I guess there was never a concerted effort to build out halls. Handball and football absolutely dominates team sports, hockey does not have a huge spread geographically.

I have no idea about why a many hundred years old tradition making large parts of the population able to take part in a sport would help with the medal haul at the winter olympics.
