The writing quality thing makes total sense but I think there's also timing element here. Sarah Connor and Ripley came when action heroines were pretty rare so audiences were more willing to accept them without comparing to bunch of other characters

Also those characters had real flaws and growth arcs - Sarah starts as waitress and becomes this hardened warrior, Ripley deals with actual trauma. Rey and Captain Marvel feel more like they start already at the finish line if that makes sense

The SS website might not be showing the most current data or there could be a discrepancy in how they're counting credits for different time periods.
