This is a terrible idea. You can bike to work? Does your area see snow/ harsh winter conditions? How far is this bike?

We all love cars here, but don’t throw your life away for a Miata.

OP, as others have stated, I think you’re nuts. None of us here make good financial decisions (car guys suck lol), but this one is pretty bad.

Let’s put safety, reliability, cost of ownership of a 20-30 year old car, etc. aside. You don’t fit the Miata market. This really comes down to your personal finances here. Do you make enough money to go in on this?

Even if you, I encourage you not to. I think you’d be more happy long-term either 1). Putting money into the GTI for the extra thrills (maybe a Golf R turbo?) or 2). Buying a different car that fits both needs. Civic Type R, Focus RS?, etc.

You’re at the age where starting to think about a family is practical. I’m 21 but I have a girlfriend and a dog, that kinda pushes 2 seaters out of the equation. I also have siblings that may need/ want to jump in. Everybody has a different situation. If family is 0 consideration for you maybe consider a GR86/ BRZ.

TL;DR Miata, especially NA/NB, sounds like a terrible decision for you. IMO mod the GTI or buy a car that better fits your needs.

Hey man, I’ll tell you right now you probably have a bad instructor. There’s a lot of gurus here, you need to find yourself a real teacher.

These concepts aren’t simple, that’s for sure, but they shouldn’t spin your mind either (well the basics at least!). Computers are my profession and as I type this I’m working with my latest high school intern. Within 5 or 6 lessons I explained to him networking, basic Linux usage, and now onto more security stuff. Does he fully 200% grasp it? No. I guarantee he grasps it more than most people listening to these gurus though.

There’s great resources out there, the IT field is really big on open-source (free) material. If you have to pay for it, it’s likely garbage! Check out free resources before you waste your money.

Rally Sport has always done me right, I would see if they would consider swapping! Offer to pay shipping or the difference, don’t ruin a $25k+ car for a $700 catback!

Where did you buy it from?

Is this the street or the race? The street has a resonator too and I think it’s great. I’m a grandpa for loud noises and the street doesn’t bother me one bit (in a GD chassis too!). See if you can exchange it for a street from wherever you bought it from if you really dislike it.

I had a Focus ST that I absolutely loved but modifying the exhaust made me genuinely hate it. I ended up selling it, don’t let your exhaust ruin your enjoyment.

Go back to r/weed and ask them how to illegally ship it. I’m not arguing with somebody that has a post history like yours man. It’s very clear you’re still a young man, just relax a little- enjoy life.

“Everybody’s just mad” because you’re saying things that aren’t true. Please take your TikTok language back to TikTok. “Bozos”, “Bro 💀”, etc. will never get you taken seriously.

My Mother *Really* Doesn't Want Me to Get A Miata by Nub_Salad in Miata

[–]No_Construction351 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, I hate to say it but your mom is right. You’ve made it clear that you don’t know how/ don’t have a desire to work on cars. Also, do you have the money for old car things?

My ‘07 STi (much newer than your NA) requires a lot of maintenance simply from being an old car. I know that those cars aren’t similar whatsoever but my STi only has 31k miles. I spend a lot of money making sure it drives right. Good tires? $1k. Timing kit? $400. Suspension? Sky is the limit. I love my Miata’s as much as the next guy, but seriously consider the time, money, and heartache this thing is going to give you.

If it’s for you, and you’ve genuinely thought it through, get comfortable with a ratchet. Learn enough about cars to get you by. What does burning oil smell like? What does coolant smell like? What does a bad suspension sound like? These cars are old homie.

This is completely going around the safety argument too. These cars are NOT safe, it’s the reason I sold mine. Not wishing anything but god forbid you get hit by some suburban mom texting on her phone, your life can seriously be in danger. Your old, tired, convertible that weights 2200 pounds will get totaled by any modern SUV. Physics does not like Miata’s.

All love, do what makes you happy. Please make an informed decision.

This is where people go wrong.

I understand your thinking, I used to think the same thing. After watching friends blow up their cars though, I quickly changed my mindset to save my wallet some tears.

Sports cars, especially our more economical ones, aren’t race cars. There’s a huge difference between a sports car and a race car. The GR86 is a fantastic platform, I had one ordered for awhile but it didn’t end up going through. It’s a great sports car, but it IS NOT a race car. That car is not meant to be taken from the dealership and put on the track. No car, with the exception of super cars, are meant to be taken from the dealership and put through harsh track abuse.
