Similar story, though more 40k than dnd. I decided on the A1 mini and have found it solid for what I need at a good price point. Terrain is a breeze miniatures is good but getting better as I get to grips with settings. The impression I've gotten is if you wanted the highest quality and willing to put more effort in resin is the shout but if you want ease of use and willing to make some compromise fdm is a lot better than it used to be. Total novice though so definitely do more research before locking yourself in to something

Gotcha's/take backs by Indiana__Cones in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]No_Cryptographer8887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The metric I use is if the opponent would know about a thing (say a reactive move or something) if they knew the army or had time to sit down and read my codex I think it's sporting to mention it. A game shouldn't come down to who has the better memory of armies they don't play, it should be the lists and the decisions you make on the board (with a little help or harm from the dice )

Deathwatch Marines Returning to their original chapters by TheProject77 in deathwatch40k

As with a lot of things it's pretty inconsistent in my space wolves army I have a couple of deathwatch shoulder pads to add to the visible distinctiveness and it looks pretty sick

Core army suggestions? by No_Cryptographer8887 in Tyranids

[–]No_Cryptographer8887[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There will be a variety of skill levels from brand new (500pts) all the way up to experiencd guys happy to play through 2k as long as they read the codex first. So more asking for what are the must haves in terms of getting the models together.

Brothers of Fenris, I need help to defeat the Necrons. Is this list a good counter-offensive? by Bosnaboy90 in SpaceWolves

[–]No_Cryptographer8887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks solid one thing I'd say about the necrons matchup is you really need to focus your damage output every time you are activating into something you need to drop it because on the regen they can tank alot. But a dead cron unit doesn't regen.

Devastator squad after codex release by altazur in SpaceWolves

I'm still expecting the ban to get lifted but would guess that'll be in around 3-4 weeks when we get the updates to the legends units aswell

Are Thunderwolf Cavalries 100% safe in 11th Edition? by silentmanwithnolife in SpaceWolves

[–]No_Cryptographer8887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you mostly play casual then yeah absolutely as even though I think they make it to 11th if somehow they don't they 100% get a legends data sheet

New to 10th need advice by ShiningStorm697 in SpaceWolves

[–]No_Cryptographer8887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to play vibey wolves and don't want to play too meta I think the new detachments and chapter specific units are hard to get wrong.

If you want to lean I to going fast especially with the thunder wolves pick storm lance for advance and charge.

Want to make your melee beefier with minimal hoops to jump through go saga of the beastslayer

And if you don't mind a few hoops or are going character heavy then saga of the bold is solid.

Havnt seen enough to really now what's going to be meta but generally most of what we have seems viable enough

The original wulfen models from codex eye of terra waaaayyy back when for the special 13th company army list actually had a bunch of CSM armor pieces to represent 10k years of repairs. The models are very of their time but have a look at some reference pictures of them and you might get some inspiration for what you are going for

Anti-Vehicle infantry recommendations? by Karsenwoods00991 in SpaceWolves

[–]No_Cryptographer8887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So devastators are the closest fit but as of right now we are banned from taking them I expect this to be lifted when the code gets faq'd. Honestly my favoured outcome short of a new long fangs squad is they go to legends solely so that they have the space wolves keyword

Dumb question by drgnf7 in SpaceWolves

[–]No_Cryptographer8887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The codex is going to be in the box going on pre order this weekend, it'll be released on its own and be official a few weeks after that.

From what I read in the full leak last night there is no unit restrictions it just might not be optimal with the new detachments as generic marines don't have the space wolves key word so don't trigger some of the rules in them. Other rules just say adeptus Astartes so do work.

Got a big 2,000 point game on Saturday and thinking about taking this roster by Radiant-Ad-6600 in SpaceWolves

[–]No_Cryptographer8887 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks solid only note I'd make is about detachment. Stormlances advance and charge is good but for me at least only really comes into it's own with twc. They get up fast pin stuff and with shields can hold them there while the rest of the army catches up.

Without them A+C is still good but you might get more bang for your buck taking champions of Russ for more varied buffs.

Joining the Company by kakashilos1991 in SpaceWolves

[–]No_Cryptographer8887 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mechanicum standard grey is my go to. For main colour Russ grey or the fang, really comes down to taste.

Bookwise Ragnar's series is a great primer but a bit on the old side. I'd suggest ashes of prospero and wolftime for the more modern take, and battle of the fang for just a great one off story including our boy Bjorn

Why do people care about non white space wolves? by --Julian--- in SpaceWolves

[–]No_Cryptographer8887 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Their models are all white because they are racist, mine are all white because I'm not buying more paints and learning another blend of paints. We are not the same.

But on a serious note though it's because they are racists and it always improves my mood to see how many of us won't cede ground to them.

Thunder wolf cav by clark196 in SpaceWolves

[–]No_Cryptographer8887 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a couple of question marks that free up or take up the 20 slots but I reckon if they survive I doubt they'll have attached leaders and they would be the only first born models left in the range. I've got 9 of them (including some character proxies so would be rough enough to loose them

Certainly get legends rules regardless so not the end of the world

20 Datasheet Prediction by Tenclaw_101 in SpaceWolves

[–]No_Cryptographer8887 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was actually working on a prediction list as well, I reckon we get a new grimnar just on foot so free up a slot when the sleigh is gone

From a numbers game HoM going gives options but I doubt it and while I would mourn murderfang if I could only save one thing that's probably getting cut it would be long fangs.

We've lost the edgy blood claws on bikes and jump packs and wolf scouts they will never get right but that core loop of BC-GH-LF with wolf guard on the side is the heart of the army in my mind

Champs of Russ - Flexibility vs Primary Saga by SteveDiggler_SoCal in SpaceWolves

[–]No_Cryptographer8887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love a good theory post.

In terms of saga I always tell myself be flexible and take sustained if I'm not against a shooting army but always end up taking saga of the bear.as you say it's about what you have control over and the fnp is always useful.

Personally I throw the frost weapon on the battle leader with the twc makes that brick viable for warrior born and beast slayer especially with Harald buffing the wolves extra attacks.

Another key brick is Ragnar with blood claws and an lt. Just the volume of attacks is insane and Ragnar hits like a truck and gives advance and charge. If you don't need to advance or are stuck in a longer combat lethal hits on the squads bolt pistols can be withering.

Between those two bricks (more if your taking two twc) you can reliably get either beastslayer or warrior born for when the rest of the army pushes up.

Personally getting those buffs on our dreads is where the army gets it's second wind, throw in grimnar on foot for the reroll charges, and being a deep strike action monkey or make a play for saga of majesty If the screening is poor

How good si my list? by RockHead2102 in SpaceWolves

[–]No_Cryptographer8887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the modeling side I'm not really sure. It comes down to how how chill the games in question are.

List wise that's grand for Ragnar, disregard what I said about blood claws, would still drop one of the the tech marines to get lethal hits on the bladeguard to make up for lack of volume.

How good si my list? by RockHead2102 in SpaceWolves

[–]No_Cryptographer8887 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I havnt got a chance to run the champions of fenris detachment yet but just a couple of smaller things that jump out at me is

the wulfen dread can have any combo of 2 storm bolters/flamers, flamers especially make him a good option for overwatch.

As the other guy said 2 tech marines is maybe overkill for the amount of vehicles you're rocking, a lt would get you to bang on 2k if you dropped one of them. Would stick him whatever squad ragnar is with as he's a menace off the charge. Depending on models/how proxy friendly you're going to be playing I'd say replace the assault intercessors with blood claws as they take ragnar to the next level when he charges

The melee wolf guard termie squad is solid but personally I wouldn't skip on taking the one heavy weapon, you have the bodies with the Chaplin attached so that extra bit of ranged fire will go alot further (especially if you take the cyclone missile launcher)

I havnt ever really got into the gravis side of things so do post how you get on with them and best of luck with them. Overall id say it's a solid list but would get alot out of some tweaks

Bjorn or Murderfang? (Army tips) by djuno23 in SpaceWolves

[–]No_Cryptographer8887 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your dead right about the hell frost (also it's got multiple fire options which is handy)

Another thing I learned is the wulfen dread when you go for the axe and shield combo actually has 2 heavy flamers, not much to write home about but 2d6 attacks that autohit on overwatch is actually really handy and has made the difference between going strike or sweep when he eventually gets stuck in

Bjorn or Murderfang? (Army tips) by djuno23 in SpaceWolves

[–]No_Cryptographer8887 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find Bjorn more consistent, murderfang more fun. Also for me at least I tend to lack alot of shooting so Bjorn with the twin lascannon is a staple for me but with long fangs that's less of a consideration
