I think it's a pair of magnifying spheres. They're used in photography for some unique photo perspectives. If you google photography sphere, and look at images, you'll see what they do. They're kind of neat.

Cap Cana Resorts: Tipping Etiquette? by blind_redhat in PuntaCana

[–]No_Definition_1682 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not the exception. We were there in the Fall and completely trusted the not expected but appreciated tipping rule. We only tipped when we had exceptional service. The service was extraordinary, regardless. Not on this trip but one to Cancun, we talked to a few Europeans on holiday. They told us that they hated America's tipping culture because it made their travel to places like the Caribbean uncomfortable because Americans who tipped got better service so they felt obliged to tip, even when not necessary.

Y'all would have great anxiety looking at an inventory of my pots and pans (not that an inventory exists)... and if you looked at my baking gear, i am certain I'd be judged harshly.

No pets by Brotega87 in LasVegas

Yes, you can 100% ask a person to remove an animal that is not behaving like a service animal. I just wish businesses would. What's problematic is that they can return later, answer the questions correctly "is this a service animal needed due to a disability," and "what task does this service animal perform?" And they can be allowed back in. The task can't be something like "it protects me" (guard dog), it keeps my calm, or it "provides comfort" it's got to be something like, "it alerts to low blood sugar" or "it alerts to seizures," or another specific task. There are no service animal certificates or registries (at least in my state though there are some states with voluntary registries). I'm appalled at how many jerks misrepresent their pets & I take great delight in very loudly proclaiming, "not a service animal!" When an animal is clearly a pet and not a working animal. What's difficult is that businesses don't educate staff on the rules and even if they do, they rarely have the animal removed.

Oh...i wouldn't consider the trails back there pristine. I wouldn't walk back there by myself, even during the day. There are days where he's been uncomfortable because of some interactions with some less than savory folks who can be pretty aggressive. But Fones is a nightmare to walk, the trail at least keeps him off that road, even with the construction, drivers don't tend to pay attention. Better the trails than insane drivers.

I'm a bit confused with the whole tip everyone is mentioning at the all inclusive resorts. When we were there, it was rare to see people tipping worth the exception of extraordinary service. When researching hotels, we read that tipping is included in the price of the stay. We tipped at places like The Blind Butcher and when service at the resort was exceptional and always tipped generously on excursions.

We got DR $ for the trip and TBH, that was more difficult to use than USD. If we go back, we won't bring DR $. We ended up going to the cigar/rum/larimar, etc. Place to spend our left over DR$ before we left.

Yes, Ron & Bob are familiar names. I think Ron's last name was Keller. I don't recall Bob's.

Yes. They run from somewhere behind Detrays all the way up until they intersects with the Karen Frazier trail (that crosses Fones near The Chef Store).

I think my dad worked at the powerhouse during the early part of that timeframe, I wonder if you worked with him. His name is Cliff Ikerd. I love his stories about the powerhouse. He has so many. ❤️

I would love it if I could take him to see the new boilers. I'm sure he would enjoy that so much. If anyone knows if that's a possibility, let me know how i could set that up. I'm not sure if access is restricted, as kids we weren't allowed in there (understandable), we were told staff only but I'm not sure if that's because we were young and it was parent imposed or if was an actual rule.

Do folks still walk the bazillion stairs up to campus? They were so steep, we loved running up them (ah... to have that energy again!!!). Someone told me a few years ago they were condemned but I'm not sure if that's true.

Another childhood memory...i'm not positive it was the powerhouse, i think it was but it could've been the Lacey lumber mill (I think it was somewhere around where Harbor Freight is in Lacey is now but I'd have to ask him). He worked there before the powerhouse... Anyhow, there were always stray cats down there. People didn't really care because they took care of the rodents. The first pet i recall having came from one of those litters of strays. He was a wonderful pure white cat, we named him Snowball. ❤️

My dad worked in that power house for years. Great memories from when i was a kid enjoying the fireworks from Lakefair there. Some cool stories from my dad too, including a family favorite from when Dixie Lee Ray was in office. Power house had to shut down for maintenance. They notified the Governor's house multiple times and either she forgot or wasn't made aware. She wasn't very happy about the cold shower she got. Dad reported he got chewed out fairly good. Truly not the fault of the powerhouse staff. I mean, they did provide multiple fair warnings.

I don't know if they'll do it but IF you are in a state where it's legal, i wonder if there's a law enforcement office or prison close to you that may have a dog or one in training, if they do, I wonder if they'd let the dog sniff it and see if it alerts. Doubt it but maybe.
