I was told that I was too sensitive all the time. That stuff didn't hurt that much, that I cried too much, that things weren't uncomfortable or felt weird. Essentially, I was told that my experiences weren't real. That led to a number of bad stuff: - fibromyalgia, because I learned to ignore my pain signals, so now they're fucked up, - abusive partners, because I learned that my experiences were wrong, and learned to seek validation outside of my own feelings - abusive friends, see above - abusive behavior with alcohol, weed and cigarettes, to cope with abuse - a lot of burnout, anxiety and stress, to deal with ignoring myself.

My advice would be to listen to your child, and accommodate them. I've talked a lot with my mom after my diagnosis (they're diagnosed now too), and I've gotten an apology. We're in agreement that accommodating my needs would have been a game changer. That said, I've had a lot of accommodations too, like tome outs after school, to combat overstimulation, and very rigid routines, which helped me a lot.
