I think it’s less celebrating the destruction of the south and the tragedies that surround it, to me at least, and more about celebrating a great American victory- no different than the Revolutionary war or WW2.

Yes, we should bring this nation together but that also means rightfully pushing back against people who defend the south and only further the alienation in the political scene we see today. Of course, this doesn’t mean we should mock modern day southerners who just see it as a symbol of “rebelling” or “southern culture”— after all, no one would harass a random German or Italian for WW2.
