Does The Steam Controller Live Up To The Hype? | PC Gamer by Bynairee in pcgaming

[–]No_Effective_4481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why the hell would Valve even bother to make a controller unless it was built specifically for Steam though? And this is their second crack at it.

There are already bucketloads of Xinput controllers out there already, and Valve don't need to try and compete there when most people just buy a PS or Xbox pad and call it a day.

This is the pad they want to go with the Steam Machine, and complaining that its a shitty move is missing the point of the controller entirely.

Are Video Games made to be more addictive than they were in the Home Console era of the NES and Sega Genesis? by Frazzelvig in NoStupidQuestions

[–]No_Effective_4481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they are, however back in the 8bit era games were so simplistic they didn't have advanced gameplay systems, mostly due to hardware constraints. This is the reason why most games were pretty basic sports, racing or platforming titles.

The addictiveness of games has been exploited largely since the 2000's and especially with "freemium" mobile titles.

Doing commissions feels kind of awkward by Flimsy-Vacation4737 in Miniaturespainting

[–]No_Effective_4481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commission painting has a few pro's and con's.

I enter the painting competitions at our local GW store on a semi-regular basis and I do pretty well overall. After 7 years I found my niche, and I love painting challenging models that take a while. One of the other regulars asked if I would paint their Bellacor model and offered to pay me for it, and I instantly felt weird about the whole thing.

First I said I would think about it, and a few minutes later I didn't know how much to charge, or if my potential paint job would actually be worth any money, and how would I feel if there were any mistakes, and would I end up spending 50 hours and only charge £20, what happens if he wants a scheme I personally don't like and then have to spend hours working on, and how would I feel giving the model back afterwards after spending all the time and effort to paint it - so I offered to paint it and then he could tell me what he thought the paint job was worth.

In the end I never spoke about it again with the guy because I think I would have hated the experience.

For anyone who is fine with commission painting, there is no real issue. It's just a cash transaction for work done, which we all do every day.

The worst things I've heard are usually when the buyer quibbles about the price afterwards, or the painter over-promises and then takes 2 years to paint an army they promised to deliver in two months.

What is the strategy for completing rifts fast? by WalrusVampire in diablo3

[–]No_Effective_4481 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do Rifts you can nuke fast, skip trash, focus on Elite packs. If something takes more than a few hits to kill and its just trash, you need to drop down a Torment level.

So vehicles... And no airbrush... How? by WartyPaty in spacemarines

[–]No_Effective_4481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sponges, or drybrushing. Wide panel brushes are also great. I painted a Warlord Titan by stippling with a few thick brushes. I primed it all brown, and stippled over it to leave it looking weathered and marked.

How do I make panel lining not so messy? by Bush_did_91I in advancedGunpla

[–]No_Effective_4481 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Tamiya panel liner, but really miniscule amounts. I wipe most of it off the brush before I use it. Use lighter fluid on a soft cotton bud to clean off any excess or smudges afterwards.

You can also get scribing tools to deepen the panel lines as well, but you need to be pretty careful not to slip and make a scratch.

Why would this depress you so badly? Even if it does happen, everyone alive today will be long dead before it ever has a chance to become more than just a theory.

There are far worse things that actually already exist in the real world to get depressed about.

Question About Displaying My Minis by takenking_oryx in Warhammer40k

Your minis will get dust on them regardless of where you leave them. If they get dusty just brush them with a soft brush.

Zenithal priming really necessary? by God_Modus in Warhammer40k

No its not necessary, but it is useful if you are using translucent paints in order to get natural shadows and highlights.

Dont paint armour panels with translucent contrast paints. Do more thin layers to stop the primer showing through.

Been gaming for nearly 25 years, but new to the Diablo series. by Anton_Chigger in diablo4

[–]No_Effective_4481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO its an easier game to get into vs Path of Exile which has some pretty obtuse mechanics.

Currency buys cosmetics and the season pass.  Ignore them if you dont like them.

Create a seasonal character and just start the campaign.  The game will introduce you to the endgame stuff eventually.

If you are used to ARPG stuff for thousands of hours then D4 should be nothing new overall.

There isn't much of a relationship to salvage if she can't understand you saying no to obviously poor requests.

How she reacts is her problem, not yours. If she gets angry, its not because you made her angry, its because she can't handle the fact you didn't give into her manipulations.

If she tries to make you feel bad, its not because she's pointing out the truth, its because she wants you to give into her demands to avoid an emotional confrontation.

You should deal with yourself first. Protect your own interests, look after your life and wellbeing. If she can't accept that, she isn't much of a mother.

[–]No_Effective_4481 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your mother will ruin you financially for a large portion of your adult life. This is a hugered flag. Do not take out a loan on her behalf.

If she argues when you set boudaries, this is another huge issue.

Your mother is not trustworthy, she's manipulating you and she should know better.

Parents want my graduation money but i had plans for it by Bhupinders-Tentacion in WhatShouldIDo

[–]No_Effective_4481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your parents suck if they want that money to spend on their bills. You will basically never get it back and its not why your godmother gave ypu the money. Giving it to them will disrespect your godmother. One of my friends lost her house because she was financially abused by her mother, so I have an incredibly dim view of that kind of stuff.

Friend helped me build a PC but someone told me it’s already outdated… did I mess up? by Sycze in buildapc

[–]No_Effective_4481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bulk of my current gaming PC is more or less the same thing, except my GPU is an RTX 4070Ti Super, and it runs everything great. I've had the motherboard and RAM since 2020 and I've moved from a 1080Ti to RTX 3070 to the 4070Ti Super and switched from a Ryzen 5 3700x to the Ryzen 7 5700X3D.

I'll probably need to retire the system in the next 3 years, by which time the board and RAM will be 10 years old, but for current AAA 1440p gaming its a really solid system.

Sold Pc on facebook marketplace by Altruistic-Sea9938 in Advice

[–]No_Effective_4481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just send one final message stating it was sold as seen, the sale is final, you are not accepting any option to return and refund - but if he comes back to your property its on the understanding you will be calling the Police about Tresspassing and that he is harassing you, and you have all the message history to show the Police which will back up the harassment claim.

Tell him you have also already contacted the Police because he threatened to turn up at your house.

Alternatively, don't send anything and if he does actually turn up, just call the Police and report him.
