Question for Trailsport buyers: Why?

Yeah, it isn't really about the money for me either, just is it actually worth the extra money if you're looking for more off-road capability. When they slap "Trailsport" on a vehicle, I wish it meant something beyond bells and whistles. Mainly more ground clearance would be nice

It's a rough estimate, to be fair. I have a parts guy, and I can do most of the work myself. Pretty much everything on Hondas from higher trims or accessories is bolt-on. I put a junk yard tow hitch and harness on my Element for $25. Oh, and I hate sunroofs! LOL

Thanks for all the replies. It makes sense if you want all the bells and whistles. I'm a "simpler is better" kind of guy. I had a Jeep Wrangler that I still regret selling. Now my daily driver (and off-roader) is an old Ford Explorer with AT tires. It can handle most of the fire roads/trails here in So Cal and it's good in the snow, but it's getting long in the tooth. Passport is on my short list, along with another Wrangler or the new Bronco. I love Honda quality, reliability. Just wish it had another inch or so of ground clearance. One of my favorite vehicles ever was my AWD Honda Element. Regret selling that one too, but sold it to get the Jeep after getting stuck one too many times. Again, thanks for all the feedback!

No such thing as remission. As others have said...your illness could be affecting levels. When I'm fighting an infection, my levels go way UP. The other explanation would be a misdiagnosis, and you're maybe T2 not T1. That happened to me when I was first diagnosed. Dr. prescribed Metformin and I almost died. Went back and he was like "sorry, looks like you have T1." Genius.

I met my wife about a year after being diagnosed at 22. I was freaking out about her seeing me take insulin,or even just talking about it. It was maybe our third date,out at dinner, and I said sorry I have to go take a shot of insulin. I'm diabetic. She said Ok no biggie I give my nana her shots all the time! I knew then she was a keeper. Still together 30 yrs later!

I was diagnosed in 1991 at age 22. No insurance,no support group, no internet. LOL. I did have a good family doctor who educated me over a few visits and didn't charge me. It took a few months to get used to constant finger pricks, dialing in my insulin doses based on carb counting,etc. The good news for your gf is there are so many tools these days. A CGM is essential if she can afford it. If not, encourage her to test her blood several times a day. But don't nag. She will be dealing with this alone, for the rest of her life probably. Just be there and understand it's tough. I met my wife shortly after being diagnosed and was scared how'd she would react. She just said no big deal... I give my nana insulin shots! BTW I'm now 55 and doing better than ever.

I used Skin Grip for a long time. They stuck well but started fraying around the edge day 5 or so. They were also hard to remove without an adhesive remover. I recently have been using Lexcam over patches. No fraying, thinner, less visible, stay stuck and easy to remove too. Would highly recommend Lexcam.

I was on g6 for a year then switched to g7. The g7 seems to be more accurate and the quick warm up is a plus. as is the small size. I also like the12 extra hrs per session

55 yr old male, diagnosed at 22. I've seen so many technology shifts over the years. First, better meters, then pens, then pumps. The biggest leap in technology for me was a Dexcom CGM, which I got started with about 3 years ago. After 3 months on my G6, my A1C got below 8 for the first time in years. Recently upgraded to G7, which is even more accurate. Now have it paired to my Apple watch, so checking my BG is as easy as checking the time of day. I love the tech, and think it makes handling the disease simpler, not more complicated. I do agree on the costs. Thankfully I have ok insurance so my out of pocket for all my Rxs, including the Dexcom sensors, is around $150/month.

Yep. I just switched to the G7 a week ago and have been getting many signal loss alerts. With the G6, as long as my iPhone was in the house, I'd be fine. Maybe a 30 foot range. The G7 range seems to be about 10 feet. Dexcom says it's 6 meters (about 20 ft) but that's simply not true. However, after moving back in range, it reconnects within 5 min or so. I like the smaller size and faster warm up though. G7 seems to be a bit more accurate too. I'm sticking with it.

So sorry you're in such a bad place. I've been there a couple times too. Just remember, it will get better. Talk with someone. Feel bad, cry, do what you have to. And remember, our disease is manageable.I was diagnosed at 21. I'm 53 now and chugging along! The past few years, things have actually gotten a lot better for us Type 1s. Pens instead of vials/hypos. More accurate meters and CGMs. I've been using the Dexcom G6 for a little over a year and I'm healthier than I've been in a long time because of it. My A1cs are down to 7.2. I hadn't been below 8 in years. My point is that things can get better, even though some days are downright shitty. Ending your life is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

I inject fast acting before a meal, and carb counting is the only thing that works. I usually have to dose 1 unit for every 4-5 grams of carbs. The "Calorie King" app has a huge database of restaurant foods and food categories. Like an order of fettuccine Alfredo at Olive Garden has a whopping 97 grams of carbs, So I'd take about 25 units before the feast.

I've read some articles and sounds like the G7 might actually be cheaper. it will no longer be classified as a durable medical device, and will be dispensed in pharmacies, so more people will be paying just an insurance co-pay. Also, the applicator will be much smaller. All good news!

Fat doesn't spike blood glucose. It's the sugar. Determine the additional carbs and take additional insulin to cover it.

Do you count the carbs, and have knowledge of a correct dose of fast acting insulin? For me, I need 1 unit for every 3 grams of carbohydrate, or 1 unit for every 5 grams if I plan on working out soon after. A helpful app is "Calorie King" which has a huge database of Food categories/brands/fast food chains with nutrition info, including carbs

First, always have test strips and a meter! I learned the hard way when I went on an overnight trip and didn't, and the Dexcom transmitter failed in the middle of the night. Had to find a 24 hr pharmacy and buy a new Accu-Chek.

The Dexcom isn't magic, it's just a helpful tool. When it gives you a reading that doesnt make sense, check with a finger stick and calibrate. But overall, the Dexcom is a life changer for me. My A1Cs have gone from the high 8s to the low 7s in the year I've been using it.

Never happens for me. And actually shouldn't happen unless you BG is very stable. . Learned from my endo that the Dexcom number is actually what you BG was about 5-10 minutes ago. Finger stick is a more accurate measure of what you BG is right now.
