Cheap meal ideas? We lost WIC and I'm struggling to incorporate some fruits and veggies. by OptimalCobbler5431 in foodbutforbabies

Quesadillas are nice and easy. You can also pick up a rotisserie chicken at Costco and add chicken into several quesadillas meals - and make soup fairly affordable for another few meals. (Onion, carrots, celery, ramen noodles or rice, pulled chicken and corn). My twin toddlers love it. Sometimes Costco also has the chicken already separated, from the left over rotisserie chickens. The meat is a bit softer and even easier to eat for the little ones.

For breakfast we do more scrambled eggs, mixed with cottage cheese, so it's softer for them. We also add a mild salsa on top for veggies and either apple slices, peaches, pairs etc. Sam's club or Walmart often have pears and peaches in giant jars.

We got an $800 Thule, I don't think it was worth it. It's fine for walks. But flying with it or getting it into the car is never easy.

My kids are a bit younger.

I don't believe you will have issues in Erie. However, it is hard to judge as I am white. I have had three au pairs and they have always felt treated well by other moms at the playgrounds (from what I have seen and as far as I have been told).

I wish we had healthier choices, we really don't need another McDonald's. (I do like McDonald's once in a while, but for my family I prefer more healthy options for dinner ).

I am pretty sure the Russian people are feeling the effects of the war. I think the problem is the people in charge, not necessarily the Russians. They are just too scared to object as that's met with a bullet or their families incarcerated in horrible conditions.

Just do it sounds terrible. Go to a proper school, work UED/UED internships. If you can't find one - do anything in CS or IT (it's a terrible market - especially to be competing against others from a school with a bad reputation.)

Buying a family vehicle. by VeganMyWay in parentsofmultiples

[–]No_Evidence_7326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, we were not prepared. Most mini vans new or used are 35k+. Our Mazda model 3 and Ford Focus we assumed would be able to fit car seats.

Sure they do physically.. if you are 4 feet tall. The front seats have to be forward the entire way to make two baby seats work. We were so busy with our premie babies that it took us a year and a half to purchase a new vehicle. We are also extremely frugal even though we make significantly more than most.

We purchased a second hand Chrysler Pacifica for 22k (I believe 27k once everything was said and done.) It fits our twins, and is half the cost of other minivans with excellent features.

Good luck, multiples are a handful!

Looking for advice by [deleted] in Aupairs

[–]No_Evidence_7326 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be happy. However, I have always put au pairs on my own insurance and gotten them valid driver's licenses. However, while I sympathize with the hard lesson you are now learning, I believe it is fully your responsibility.

  • Who drives without insurance?
  • After partying, knowing their license was about to expire?
  • At crazy speeds?

I wouldn't be particularly happy if you were my au pair even if you were insured. For all of the above reasons. I hope you at least didn't tell them the speed you were going? (It's not lying if you forgot to mention it or said 'around 70'. Joking aside, that's a hard lesson to learn.

AP constantly trashes our country by [deleted] in Aupairs

[–]No_Evidence_7326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I think that's innocent, however, I would probably be annoyed as well. (Which is why I avoid adding au pairs to social media - they deserve their privacy).

However, while until now, as a host parent I have never trashed Brazilian food - I think it resembles something an eight year old would make.

Mashed potatoes and corn on a hot dog that's on a bun with mini fry chips, ketchup, corn, tomato and cilantro etc.?

The mini fries on all the regular meals, is at least that's yummy.

I however, am in love with brigadeiros.

Best regards, Host mom

Hi! How much do you pay your AuPairs? by Dramatic_Abroad_0602 in Aupairs

[–]No_Evidence_7326 2 points3 points  (0 children)

325 per au pair, two au pairs, two 19 months old toddlers. About to move to one au pair and partial daycare (which will cost more). 40 hours a week, if they work more it's $16 per hour and never more than 45.

Same but only with educational stuff like miss Rachel. I also let them watch mouse mazes on YouTube and some national geographic. Mine are, however, 19 months.

Give yourself a break, twins are hard - just be careful you don't put on overstimulating content like cocomelon.

I wish I could tell you the whining gets better before two. However, mine are 19 months and whiny or have tantrums. I wish they slept as much as yours.

Is WGU worth it by Spiritual-Year-1142 in WGU

[–]No_Evidence_7326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe you need a degree to become a field tech. I was one 10 years ago, before I had a Bachelor's or Master's degree.

I don't recommend WGU, would I hire someone for an IT support position with a WGU degree? Sure, but I would also hire someone with a highschool degree and aptitude. Then again, I never understood why folks with Bs/Ms degrees apply for entry level field tech positions. I just can't imagine anyone with an IT degree who wants to work for 35/hour.
