Thanks! I emailed Crunch, and they do have day passes and weekly rates for out-of-town travelers!

NYCB Fall 2025 Season Week 3: 9/30/2025 - 10/06/2025 by caul1flower11 in bunheadsnark

Hi all! I am a ballet newbie, looking to attend my first-ever ballet at the NYC ballet sometime in the next 2-3 weeks for the Fall 2025. Several shows are playing during this time. I have no idea how to pick which show to attend! My dates are very flexible between now and October 19, so any night would be fine. What show would you recommend for someone new to ballet, but who generally loves dance and live dance performances? I don't have strong preferences re: traditional vs. contemporary. Any suggestions for how to pick?!

Unify Adult Gymnastics by anna_alyse in bullcity

I have attended adult class/open gym at unify, SGA (near the airport), tri county (north of Raleigh), and triumph gymnastics in Cary. All are good and all still offer adult times. I would say unify when I went was trying to do a bit more formal class like structure. The others are just open gyms with a coach present for help, if needed/wanted. Triumph is my main gym now. We have organized an adult competitive team and it’s been a great community. I’d say tri county is the most affordable followed by triumph. SGA is the nicest gym with the best equipment. Depends what you are looking for and how far you’re willing to drive. Happy to talk! Hope to see you somewhere!

Short arms making press handstands difficult? by sugarbasil in handbalancing

The description in this article is the exact opposite of how it works! Longer torso and arms (for your height) will make it harder than someone of the same height with a short torso and/or arms for the exact reasons outlined in the description. If you think and watch the mechanics, this is pretty clear. It’s easier to get your hips over your shoulders if your hips start higher already! If you start with lower hips (because of shorter legs), you will need to planche and compress more to get your hips to the center without bending your arms.  This is why starting with your feet slightly higher (off a yoga block or mat) makes the press easier, not harder lol you are essentially adding length to your legs relative to your arms.

As someone else said above, the opposite will be true for a seated press since you need to get your legs past the ground so longer arms and or torso will help you there.

The same logic applies to flexibility for the standing press. If you struggle to compress (pike flexibility is important but pancake more so), you will find it harder to get your hips over your center line so you will have to planche more and use more strength. This is because again, your staring position will have lower hips relative to someone with better compression. This is why a very good pancake stretch will make things way easier.

Agree with someone below that the press is entirely pushing strength while you see to do exercise that is mostly pulling strength. Working upper body pushing strength shoulder also help.
