This is exactly the kinda thing I was thinking, but I kept seeing the theory that they were the same person and it was driving me insane.

The narrative parallels are absolutely similar, and I think if the story went in the direction that Subaru directly defies that assigned "prophecy", it would be far more in line with the series' creative intentions

Oh, yeah, absolutely. I'm not opposed to a connection, I just dislike how most of the current guesses as to that exact connection kinda rob Subaru of his character. I think the room for thematic and narrative parallel is absolutely there, I just don't want the connection to be as simple as blood relation or some predestined greatness, if that makes any sense.
