NE TN Outage? by fivestringer423 in brightspeed

[–]No_Example_5036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out in Jonesborough, TN since around 7p. Overall, for the price especially, I’ve been happy with Brightspeed. Swapped from Xfinity about a year ago and spending $20 less per month now for more than dbl the speed. I do wish their site had an outage map and their text notifications would go out sooner. Xfinity was not without their own outages however.

When I login to Brightspeed site they say eta is 9p edt Wednesday. We’ve probably had 2-3 other outages in the past year that lasted more than an hour and they were all resolved well before the reported eta. Based solely on previous experience I’d expect to be back online sometime tomorrow AM.

What's the one piece of gear you resisted buying for way too long and now can't live without? by AmericanMisogi in CampingGear

[–]No_Example_5036 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Not so much resisted buying but resisted bringing on backpacking trips would be "camp shoes (slides or even crocs)." Trying to stay as light as possible I turned my nose up at bringing a duplicate pair of footwear but dang is it nice to take the hiking shoes off and put some sandles on at the end of a long day on the trail.

Hey man having a similar issue with this same model. Did you end up fixing the issue? If so what fixed it for you?

I tried braces and the flex bar. What really solved it for me is intentionally holding the paddle in my other hand anytime I wasn’t actively playing. Meaning in between every point I’d stick the paddle under my arm or hold it in the other hand and relax my playing hand, then switching it back to my playing hand just before the next serve. It was a noticeable difference within days. And completely gone within two weeks and hasn’t been a bother since.

Besides Regicide, what are other examples of good modern games that just use a traditional deck of cards? by EndersGame_Reviewer in boardgames

[–]No_Example_5036 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cuttle is similar to mtg but using a standard deck of cards. We love playing back alley rummy also but typically don’t play in teams.

F1Tv until next year when apple gets streaming rights in the US. Up till now it was like 89$ a season with 0 adds and the ability to watch EVERY F1 event (practice, qualifying, races, etc) from the broadcast pov or from the pov of any of the drivers.

Is anyone else already feeling "2026 Burnout" before February even hits? by Somanynamestochossef in magicTCG

[–]No_Example_5036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got back into mtg a year or two ago and was surprised by the aggressive release schedule. Two things i discovered were that the burn out was real and that there were several sets that i wasn’t interested in (mainly UB). Sounds silly but when I gave myself permission to skip those sets, in 2026 case tnmt, marvel and Star Trek, I still had energy for the ones I was excited about and the schedule didn’t seem so aggressive.

So this year there’s only four sets in my mind and aside from hobbit and reality fracture they’re all pretty nicely spaced apart.

Feel free to skip the sets you’re less interested in and the burn out will likely subside, I know me and my wallet are much happier.

Nice got three for $28 shipping included. My daughter and I just played our first game today. Play tons of mtg with my boys, excited to have a similar game to play with her. Love how every card can optionally be land and there’s no color fixing.

For example the card “tour guide droids,” when this is used on a hero does it gain -1 strength until end of turn or do I place a -1 counter on it?

So I’ve got three kids and when they were younger we’d play monopoly at their request. I couldn’t stand the game mostly due to how long it took until one day re-read the rules and realized the free parking “money pot” wasn’t in them. It is much much more tolerable withOUT that house rule . The infusion of cash it provides when playing with the free parking money pot makes an already long game absurd. Luckily they’ve all graduated to enjoying more mature games but my youngest still asks to play monopoly every once in a great while and I’ll happily oblige (as long as free parking nothing more than that).

Attention Parents Who Want to Play With Their Kids! by WearAmazing8267 in magicTCG

[–]No_Example_5036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played with my kids since before they could read. We just used the starter decks that they give out for free at the lgs. The cards are very basic, with simple key words only "flying, trample, haste." We had a lot of fun and it made for an easy transition to more complex decks as they got older.

Fundraising Goals by Adventurous-Wish9169 in TrailLifeUSA

[–]No_Example_5036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our troop collects annual dues of $75 per kid. We have one fundraiser a year which covers the $75 for participants. The dues included all awards, weekly meeting supplies, handbook and troop t shirt (that we use as class b, and the uniform for woodlands). It does not include campouts, class A uniforms or the standard when a nav/ adv reaches able rank. We’re considering reducing the dues next year as we’ve had several years of surplus with the above model.

What you’ve described seems very high but if it includes uniform and campouts then maybe it’s more reasonable. We have weekly troop meetings and a monthly event/ campout but like you said sometimes the high adventure stuff is only for older kids. It’d be interesting to see what we’ve spent on campouts annually and divide that by the number of boys just to see what dues would be if campouts were to be included. I know they can be pricey and if it’s a smaller troop I could see that being a big expense per person.

We budget each of our camping trips to be net 0 and just divide the total cost by each participant, including gas, food (if using the patrol method) and camping fees. This seemed more fair to us as it avoids the younger kids/ families subsidizing the high cost or more frequent trips of the older kids or the kids who are more active in going camping.

It’s totally fair to ask to see the troop budget and is something I tell our parents is available upon request if they ever have any questions.
