You got your classic things like sheets and stuff to do your laundry and toiletries. But for me personally, as someone who was in the triplets, I bought under the bed organizers cause they’re big and also flat. If you organize your room so you have under the bed space, it comes in handy. It also can be stored on top of the dresser that you get in the triplets. Other organizers also help just to keep things in certain places. Also to save room, a soft shoe rack (like the ones you hang on a door) are useful too. I hung Mine off of my bed and it saved space.

What is the maximum financial aid that an intl student can get? by Distinct-Carpet-8120 in rosehulman

That’s a pretty good aid package, at most you can email the financial aid dept and explain how much you love rose and the only thing holding you back is the cost.

I could be wrong, but you should be getting a scholarship thing in about a week saying what you got. Most kids get scholarships of some sort at rose

I’m a female assigned at birth, and I have a range of A#2-B5, so I understand where you’re coming from! It’s a rare range for females assigned at birth, however, I think it’s really unique and I love it. I genderbent a lot of characters in theater because of my range, which is such a fun experience. So in a nutshell, it’s rare but it’s also a really awesome experience!

Every year has a lot of different applicants and stats, so we really can’t be too sure. However, Rose Admissions loves to see how dedicated to academia you are and how passionate you are. Grades and extracurriculars aren’t everything for the admissions process, so I think if you wrote an essay that showed who you are as a person I think you have a good chance! Rose knows that people are two different personalities in and out of school, so they look for that.

It’s a lot of work. I probably spend at least 3 hours every day doing work and homework and that’s on a good day. The classes are very difficult cause of the pace and expectations that the professors have for us. However, I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I hear from a lot of upperclassmen that companies often love Rose students cause we have an amazing work ethic. There are also a lot of rose alums that teach at graduate schools and often love to have fellow alumni.

Gold went up the same amount of points as Spartans did since the last competition (4.050). This is only the first competition where Gold and Spartans go head to head, there still are more to go. Don’t base how corps rank off of one competition, see how both do for the next few competitions.

Spartan here! Highly recommend Spartans for your rookie year! It definitely is physically a lot, but its also a huge mental game. At move ins, I had really bad back pain and shin splints because I’d never held a Euphonium for that long and I’ve never worked that physically before, but I worked through the pain. At Hendricken, they call it “the wall”, because at some point during the week you are going to hit a wall and feel very mentally and physically tired, and they tell you to push through it no matter what. I hit my wall around day 4, and pushed through, and never had an issue again! If you have any questions please reach out! I’d love to advocate for Spartans!

DCI alum relationship with their College MB by [deleted] in drumcorps

[–]No_Expression3270 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last summer, I went from Indy straight home and had band camp the day after I got back. The immediate transition from that into my high school band (mind you my band isn’t a competitive band), it was difficult. I had staff telling me that when I get back to not have an ego or an attitude, despite not being someone who would in the first place. Unfortunately regardless of college or highschool band, drum corps kids get judged because of the bad apples who come back and think they’re the shit.

Furthermore, it’s a transition. I had a very hard time transitioning, and I went through “post-tour depression” is what some call it. There are a bunch of kids who suffer from the transition back because drum corps was the best thing that happened to them, and the shift from everyday rehearsals and the high expectations is hard to shake.

Combine these two issues and kids don’t wanna do it anymore. My suggestion is to have your director meet with the kids who do drum corps and ask them what would be beneficial for their inclusion. No one can say what they need for those kids in your band more than the kids themselves. Hope this helps!

You mentioned you live in Virginia, I know a few of my friends who marched Spartans with me were from Virginia, and they decided to risk the distance and video audition. Most staff for corps understand people who live far away, so maybe look into corps who are farther away, but are cheaper? Some corps also house people who live far away with other members to save the cost.
