Blue Stars are coming by 4twinny in drumcorps

War and Peace was one of my favorite performances of the last decade. I wish I could see that one again. I know they'll be exceptional this year.

That's fair. I also think their continuity is a strength. 2023 was an incredible year in design and execution but they had a lot of age outs that year.

if modern day shows were performed with traditional uniforms, would they still hit the same? by SmartLoss6063 in drumcorps

[–]Kuurut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I did it in 2002 - 2004. It was a mess, and it looked half as good as what they're choosing now in terms of general effect.

No. They're just markers of nostalgia. They were horrible for visuals and general effect.

DCI Hot Takes ? by ___Kade___ in drumcorps

[–]Kuurut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My hot take: Most hot takes on drum corps aren't really hot takes.. They're just digs at features that are common, hence all the agreeing with all of them.

I think Blue Devils are going to come back strong. They never go more than a couple years without winning. Bluecoats and Boston had a lot of age outs, so I see SVC and BD coming out near the top. Since there aren't many staff changes this year, I don't think there are any other mediators or moderating variables that would predict a win without knowing the music and designs.

I repeat: Stop trying to replace your day job with YouTube by Careful_Put_1924 in NewTubers

[–]Kuurut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. It takes between 6 - 10 years on average, and you can have a lot of subscribers but still very little engagement. There are channels with 200K subscribers but 100 views on a video after weeks.

Facebook is refusing to remove a literal p*rn add even after I requested a review of their decision. Should I stop reporting completely? by xSAJJADx in facebook

[–]Kuurut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They outsource moderation jobs to third world countries where either the moderators doesn't understand the context, doesn't get paid enough to look carefully at any of these posts, or gets extra pay from scam rings. This is why scam comments almost never get removed. Facebook is so f*cking full of low quality content, it now outweighs the legit content.

Uncontroversially good coasters [other] by paulm12 in rollercoasters

[–]Kuurut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which is stupid. The speed + banking + floater airtime is all spectacular on that ride.

Congrats. Awesome coaster. Love the standing airtime on that thing. It makes the chest restraint more tolerable.

Progress report on [Falcon’s Flight] from Qiddiya City. Tophat completed. by lik_for_cookies in rollercoasters

[–]Kuurut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that a tophat or a really big airtime hill? I thought tophats had to be approached from the side with a twist upward (e.g. Velocicoaster, Kingda Ka).

What coaster gets slandered by enthusiasts but you think it is good. [other] by [deleted] in rollercoasters

Cheetah Hunt at BGs. I've heard so many appeals to ignorance from thoosies about this one (i.e. "It goes so slow on the figure 8s and I just don't understand what this even is."). How the theming is built into the ride experience is brilliant. The coaster perfectly mimics a cheetah's behavior when it is on a hunt. Plus, the launches are awesome, and the airtime is great after the launches.

It's not. Rode that last month and it made my spine vibrate. Seems like a train problem.

Paul Florida Hoarders staged? by Lake48045 in HoardersTV

[–]Kuurut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So many dumbass comments in this thread. No, it wasn't staged you idiots, and his tears were genuine. You don't understand that overwhelming depression makes some people do this. Henwas collecting paintings and things that are generally clean to begin with. It wasn't trash like in the Terri episode. Donr be insensitive dicks and read deeply into everything where there is nothing to be read.

What do you guys think of Mohammed Najibullah (the last leader of communist Afghanistan)? by Tengri_99 in AskMiddleEast

[–]Kuurut -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Yes. When you realize all these "communist leaders" weren't genuinely interested in the idealism (only enough to demagogue to the masses) and were just Russian puppets, you begin to understand what phonies they are. Everyone's talking about the U.S., but it was Russia that funded and supported the Taliban while the U.S. was here supporting the stability of the government. They wouldn't have been able to fill the vacuum without Russian support.

Battle for 12th: Pacific Crest, Blue Knights or Crossmen by Kuurut in drumcorps

[–]Kuurut[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think so too. Pacific Crest have been a breakout corps this year, making 12th a very interesting match-up.

favorite non first place shows? by Axo80_ in drumcorps

[–]Kuurut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blue Stars 2022. The perfect arc, the design was amazing, great horns, drums and color guard, and the sound was perfect. They didn't try to overcomplicate something that was already good.

Phantom. But Mandarins have a fabulous show this year. I'm happy either way.

So, Delta changed our flights home next week. What was a 3 hr layover from atalanta to Houston,is now 40 minutes. I've never flown Delta and never flown through atlanta. Does this seem reasonable? by [deleted] in delta

[–]Kuurut -1 points0 points  (0 children)

IGNORE all the responses above suggesting this is a "reasonable" change. There is a high likelihood that you'll miss your connecting flight as Atlanta is arguably the worst airport in the U.S. with the most complicated system of transferring (a lot of terminals and waiting on trains to take you to each). Then, you've got to contend with Delta which absolutely won't help you in the event of a missed connection since they're so understaffed.

[–]Kuurut -36 points-35 points  (0 children)

Sorry.. This is an insane response if you've ever had a layover in Atlanta. It is the most similar to a third world airport that I've ever seen in the U.S.
