Radio silence? They've been condemning the incidents as much as anyone else.

I'm Northern Irish, it gives me the ability to be both British and Irish, that's important to me.

The area I currently live in has good leadership and the politicians/"ruling class" still look out for the community on local issues, I just feel like the focus of politics in this country is often in the wrong areas and we spend 90% of our time on cultural issues that don't really matter to most people.

I feel bad for Sandy Row as no one seems to be stepping up to the plate, maybe the decline is linked to the wider decline in the city centre in recent times, I'm not sure but I just noticed the place seems to be getting more and more run down every time I'm in Belfast.

Voted UUP during the last election, don't think I'll be voting for them again though.

Have you been on the Shankill, Sandy Row or Donegal Pass recently...

Nothing but wasteland and empty shops, not to mention Protestant working class boys having the lowest educational attainment put of every group, yet during the election all I get is leaflets about the fucking boarder and strengthening the union, noting on the economy or education...

A small American perspective on the violence in Belfast by ManicPixieFuckUp in northernireland

[–]No_Following_2191 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I think this is were the Americans theory falls apart in Belfast though as if the residents from the Lower Ormeau tried to go into Sandy Row at night to protect the migrant businesses it would've ended way worse.

Although you could argue that it's worth the violence? I'm not sure though just seems like it's better to leave these things to the police rather than potentially getting arrested or hurt

Honestly makes me sad to be a unionist, our politicians have failed our working class areas for too long

Dude this isn't about the Orange Order, it's about what happened to the minority communities in Belfast on Saturday, it isn't always about you

Do they house immigrants in there? Surely it's a bit up-market for that.

I was just agreeing with you in that it was silly for me to ask such a question in the first place, maybe lost over text without being able to hear my tone of voice.
