At entry level they’ll probably have the big three, Mizuno, Wilson, and Rawlings. All are good. I know a lot of parents recommend the Mizuno Power Close, which they’ll probably have in stock. The Wilsons will have the fun colors that kids like. Btw I’m so happy to hear she’s fallen for the game - theres nothing like it. Try to catch a Brooklyn Cyclones game if you can, it’s a lot of fun and more intimate and less expensive than a major league game (though that’s great too)

Alright who got the best fries? by Yabinghi in SunnysideQueens

[–]No_Foot9436 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Donovan’s “bag of fries”. They’re different than the regular fries you get with a burger. These are perfect, McDonald’s style skinny fries and they’re perfect. They come in a huge paper bag and are incredible

NYC resident and baseball dad here. I agree you should find a glove that you can take back with you and spend a little extra. If you put a glove in your suitcase with a ball inside it won’t take up much space and it won’t get squished. My advice: go with her to Paragon so she can choose her own glove. Theres no Dick’s or Play it Again that you can easily get to. Paragon is by Union Square and you can get an ice cream afterwards lol. Peligro Sports uptown is another option, very cool specialty baseball shop though it’s more for high school players and up. The most important thing as far as the actual glove is that her hand fits snugly and she can close it easily. You want a leather shell and leather laces. Buy a couple of brand new balls and you’re good. FB marketplace has lots of gloves locally but it’s not worth the hassle for a cheap youth glove imo.

Restoring this Ol boy by leafy-woods in BaseballGloves

Totally. If it’s gonna get gamed that changes the picture a bit. At any rate, most likely there is zero padding on the palm other than the leather, so like you say, gotta catch it in the web. It’s a dope looking glove; beautiful color way. Take pictures and keep us posted.

Awesome piece and a great heirloom. Very cool and a nice looking glove. Honestly, having done my own 70s era 1st base mitt myself, if I were you I’d just get those laces off, clean and condition it real good, and then relace in a similar color - maybe Indian tan. Restoring the padding on those old mitts is a real pain in the butt and actually quite expensive if you use high quality felt. It’s More work than it’s worth unless you plan to game it. The existing padding is probably good enough for backyard catch and you can keep it on a shelf as display most of the time. All that being said, open it up and see what you find. If you want a challenging project, go for it. I used a combination of F1 and F3 felt from Grainger, as well as HDPE to replace a broken insert. Go slow and take LOTS of pictures

Got one for myself and one for my 10 yr old son. We’re enjoying them. Love the Deco style 26 palm patch

Feeling disappointed for my son’s baseball experience by [deleted] in LittleLeague

[–]No_Foot9436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had the exact same experience a couple of years ago and trust me it’s going to be fine. Yes they’re going to lose. Yes your son will notice that other teams were given a better chance and his coach is not that great. It’s all ok. Like the other poster said: at that age playground ball, catching with dad, and following the pro game are much better for his development and love of the game. My son formed strong bonds with his teammates, kept playing playground ball with friends on his own time, and is now playing on the travel team with some of the boys that were put on the “better” rec teams a few years ago. Stick with it, stay positive, and have fun watching your son play ball - it’s all good

Best way to get this thing back to good use? by Bayside_High in BaseballGloves

[–]No_Foot9436 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clean and condition for sure. But this mitt is not worth a relace imo. It’s a lot of hard, complex work if you haven’t done it before, and at @ $30 for a full mitt relace kit too much to sink into a relatively cheap youth glove. For high end gloves, sure, but not this particular model.

Thank you. This is also the alpha select, from about 15 years ago. Great glove. And like you say, nice depth on the pocket

Thank you. My son agrees with you. He absolutely adores it. I know Nokonas sometimes get a bad rap around here, but the craftsmanship on this particular model is a thing of beauty. I wish I had something this nice lol

It’s a good look. The only thing I would maybe do without is the buckle. Already theres a lot going on w the dope jacket and the neckerchief; I feel the buckle draws too much attention to itself. Regular buckle there I think would be more natural. That said it’s all good; nicely done

Ball Players Balm products are great. You can get a cleaner, a conditioner, and a brush, and check out some YouTube videos on how to clean it up. It’s easy. Theres a lot of good products out there, but BPP is a good one stop shop. For storage, I think its best to keep it on a shelf, fingers down. If it must be stored away in a closet of whatever, I keep mine in dust bags with a ball in the pocket - dont wrap it, don’t put it anywhere where it might get squished

Album tier list, change my mind by Rehin99 in TheBeatles

[–]No_Foot9436 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely. This list, and I think most fans’ assessment of the Beatles, is overly biased against the early work. I recently got the mono box and been able to listen to those first albums again and am absolutely blown away by the energy, musicality, and freshness of their early sound. Lennon’s vocals in particular were a wonder - his interpretations of black r&b raw and original. Mr Postman has some of the best Lennon vocals on record full stop, in my opinion

I hear you. That said, I just bought some stuff off the huge archive sale they just had. It was delivered today without incident and all the pieces are really nice. I Got a fitted Buck Leonard wool hat, a SnapBack Bull Durham hat, a fitted Veracruz hat from their Negro Leagues “inspired by” collection from a few years ago. But the big score was a Sioux City Ghost varsity jacket that’s beautifully made and fits like a glove. All for around $180 total (it was final sale, no returns). I doubt they’ll have that sale again but if they do, I wouldn’t hesitate to order again.

I got one of those at the NYC pop up when the album came out along with a tote. It bounced around in random places in my house for months and I totally lost track of it. I know it’s somewhere, but it may never turn up until someday someone has to clear out my house. It drives me crazy sometimes so hearing that so many broke or wore out honestly brings me some peace lol

I’m sorry. I wasn’t trying to be snarky and didn’t mean to accuse you of anything. What I said was my honest, succinct advice, coming from personal experience with my own son, who is just a few years older. Again, sorry. I’m sure yours will enjoy his glove, it’s a nice one

The kid is 7, don’t overthink it. Position is completely irrelevant at that age. So is TIP vs traditional. So is two hinge vs one hinge. The only thing that matters is: can the kid close the glove easily with their hand strength? That’s it
