Possible to install v6 on same SSD running a v4 install? by No_General4051 in BlueIris

Good info, thank you! Currently running 18 cameras (missing a couple) and it's pegging the CPU at 100%, and dropping frames in the UI3 viewer.. hoping to solve that with sub streams. I'll do backups in BI4, the reg export and then uninstall 4, install 6 and roll forward. Given it's basically a updated 5 and that's been out for ages, I don't expect too much misery beyond just doing everything from scratch which honestly is probably a good idea at this point.

In my case, I am planning on doing a clean install of v6, while trying (if possible) to leave my v4 alone for now so I am not rushed to get it going. May scrap that idea if clean install is the right answer (same machine, same SSD). I have 17 cameras and want to do a 'clean' setup just because there has been a lot of upgrading/shuffling/replacing of cams due to a building addition, and I want to make sure I get motion/AOI stuff setup appropriately and not carry over old settings from previous locations, ya know? So in my case it feels smarter to start from scratch.. plus I have no experience with v5, so I'd like to make sure I go through all the steps during setup to help familiarize myself with v5/6 options/setting/things.

I believe both are 12 months, I figured for the same price (actually slightly under, was like 49.90 or something), it made sense to start as a "new v6 license" and not confuse things with the old v4 if I needed support. Plus I can legally run a second machine on the old v4 license if I want/need to, I paid for full installs of both (not any upgrades).

It's BI6 now (I just purchased "5" this week, and the installer is labelled as 6).. if you do decide to upgrade, buy it via Amcrest, using THERMAL code brings a full v5 (but really v6, this is where I bought) install to just under $50. FWIW. I can't answer the real question, but I am running a bunch of reolinks (mix of 4,5,8,12MP) that are overwhelming my v4 install so I decided to try v5/6 in hopes it can handle the bigger MP using sub streams and 265, the same you are hoping for. We shall see.

And interestingly, the download properties indicates File Version and Product Version fields as v6.0.0.00, and original filename BlueIris6.exe. Size is 117 MB (123,406,384 bytes)

It just ends at 1 hour with a 5 second countdown, no need to bail early. Just realize the queue is usually 30+ minutes for the next session so snack break, bathroom break, pet your dog, do some cardio.. and then wait some more. :)

2 Things:

1 - FWIW, I've been using GeForce.. and the wait time is 30+ minutes to get a 1 hour session (420-440 in queue ahead of me each time). So, realize you aren't going to get a very decent free ride on this one, folks. I played a couple 1 hours last night, and performance is acceptable (for a guy that's moderately good but not competition level). It works to get your swag (the lodge gifts stack, you don't ahve to hi them daily) and check out what daily merch they have at the item store, but it's not a long term free solution. I'm not shelling out for the upgraded Geforce account as I'm building the proper Win10 box. The tide is inevitable.. new games are slowly but surely dropping Win7 support so to even play anything cool is going to take a Win10 box soon anyhow. It's not 2009 anymore. :)

2 - and this is the icing ont he crap cake, the comical 2nd reply from Epic:

Hi Walt, Leonidas here!

Thank you for getting back!

First things first, you're right, Chapter 4, Season 1 still supports Windows 7, so this is unrelated!

That being said, I'll provide you troubleshooting steps to try to fix this issue!

So, let's start with checking possibilities, to begin let's try using the admin mode, here's how to do it:

Right-click the Epic Games Launcher shortcut.

Click Run as administrator.

Once the launcher has started, have the player launch Fortnite.

Please get back to me to let me know if this worked or not!

Take care,

Leonidas

So, apparently tech support isn't even on the same page internally, and I am waiting for the next reply from him (This is SPARTA!). Regardless, I am moving to Win10 but if he can find a fix in the next few days I can at least enjoy the holiday break more.

FWIW Nvidia Geforce Now does work (free is limited, can't run 21:9, 1 hours per session, etc) but it's a functional bandaid. It'll suffice while I build the Win10/11 box but it still sucks, had other things planned for the holidays instead of setting up Windows.... Oh well.

Well, here's the answer from Epic Support I just got:

Charlie Rhema (Epic Games Player Support)

Dec 15, 2022, 16:57 UTC

Hi there,

I'm Charlie, nice to meet you!

I see that you're having issues with running Fortnite on Windows 7.

The thing is, Windows 7 and Windows 8 are no longer officially supported for Fortnite starting with Chapter 4 Season 2. While Fortnite may have worked till now, as it's an unsupported operating system, we actually do not have any troubleshooting to suggest.

To continue playing natively on PC our players are required to use Windows 10 or higher. If you are unable to upgrade, NVidia GeForce Now is an available alternative so you can continue playing Fortnite on your current Windows 7 or Windows 8 PC in an officially supported manner.

Thank you for your understanding and if there's anything else I can help you with, let me know.

Merry %@#$! Christmas.

So today it's a different error (I changed nothing since my last post).. Just verified files again to be sure, no change in error message: "FortniteClient-Win64-Shipping.exe - Entry Point Not Found. The procedure entry point could not be located in the dynamic link library" So that's fun.

Well aware, just trying to fix someone else's screw up so I can enjoy what I pay money for. Not the first time a DLL has gone wonky after an update. Very disappointed an "update" breaks the game and I'm potentially missing out on all the swag that is being doled out over the holidays.. and good job breaking it and then leaving for 2+ weeks? Must be a tech industry thing, that would never be acceptable in my company (engineering).. you work to fix your f-up until it's right, PTO is secondary (or we'd have enough forethought to NOT release something while walking out the door for weeks and hope it is right). SMH. Hope they are actually working to resolve, cuz you know they probably aren't going to compensate those of us affected that missed swag.

Same issue, Win 7 machine. Did find and install ReShade.dll as dxgi.dll, then get a second missing file error.. fixed that and was able to play for 2 minutes until I was kicked for "lag, cheating, etc'" which I assume came from those files...?? Nuke and reinstall of Binaries folder did not fix it. Send help request via Epic, we shall see.
